I have been playing the Organ for all my life and I can this is what I like. I love traditional Gospel/Spiritual Music .. this brings back a lot of memories .. I'm not a fan of modern contemporary Gospel Music. I'm old school ... this type of music will move you !!!!
Thank You!! Whoever uploaded this choir, I thank you! This definetly takes me back to when I was a youngin. I can't get enough of this Choir! Praise God!
But ya'll hear that FULL SOUND of St. James?? That sound, along with that organ, and just havin church.....that's just what they're known for. I Love It!
Isn't it astounding how much the world and the church has changed in16 years??? How I wish I could have been sitting (standing, shouting, praising) in that church on that day. I am thankful for this video- which is the next best thing!
@vocalvessel AMEN - AMEN - AMEN. I am the minister of music of a church in Birmingham, Alabama, and I don't care how "up to date", "modern", "Contemporary", etc your choir may be. NOTHING gets in the house like a good old Traditional Gospel Number!!!!
I loved when the choir marched in the church, and when they stood along the walls and sang the Lord's Prayer. I miss that at times. I loved St. James and I love Shield of Faith.
These saints knew how to Fear God. God have mercy on us and on the world. In my churches, we 'play' and have lost the Word of God. This church had leaders who taught Truth. God bless them all who Honor God.
Indeed Choir marching in on step hands raised!! No games were to be played and your robes/uniforms were WHITE not DINGY WHITE not skin tight but in reverence to God!!! The come as you are folks using today should be known is regarding YOUR SOUL not your appearance.
@Moorexec You are exactly right about what you said here I love traditional Gospel it is what brought us and will keep us...... Praise The Lord!!!!!!!!!!!! Iam praying everyday that i learn the organ.. The lord done blessed me with one and now i just got to learn it..
badprecher I was there when Zion used to do fellowship with st. james. Man talk about preaching, singing and churchin' it was nothing like it. S.L. was the truth!
this was ST. JAMES BAPTIST CHURCH in DETROIT, when the church was located on MT. Elliott @ Pulford, Andre Woods moved REVIVAL TABERNACLE into this building after St. Jamnes move to Van dyke
Also, at First Church in Chicago, it represented placing your hand in God's hand, in reverence and humility. By the way, First Church and Elder Smith's church historically were two of the first churches of color to broadcast over the radio in Chicago.
I understand your concern, for I too miss those services such as this. I experienced these services in Chicago at First Church and Fellowship, however. Nevertheless, we must encourage each other to always go forward in faith with our eyes on Jesus. Big choral sounds, lifestyles, fashion, order of services, etc, will all pass away. But God never fails, and the best is yet to come. God knows our hearts, and rewards those who diligently seek Him.
Sorry to say, but it's already a virtual memory! Church is big business and is now treated as such, thus the annointing is being stripped away! And while our choirs continue to carry the same classic sound that ONLY Detroit can produce, there is still a lifestyle that we christians KNOW is against the will of God! Until we all deal with this sad fact, we will continue down a slippery slope! Ok, I went soap box and waaaay off topic, but I believe in saying what God lays on my heart. God bless!
What's the old saying; be careful what you ask for,for you just might get it. I grew up on Mt.E and Pulford.Straight up Dyed in the wool stone cold ST.James/Rev.C.H. Nicks jr apologist. But there had to be a new day even in St.J. This is Y God Created something new from day to day 7. I'll never forget my home and history, but I can't have God Leaving me behind, either.
This does sound amazing! This is First Church's theme song. It's choir of 250+ voices, back in the day, would march in just like this, with Fred Nelson, Jr. or the III, wearing the Hammond organ out. And when they came on the air with their weekly broadcast singing this song, you knew something extraordinary was about to happen in that "Hour with Jesus", as Lucius Hall, one of the announcers, would call it. We can thank God for these memories, and the great spirit of Rev. Nicks.
Not sure.....maybe MARCELL77 can be more specific, but its just as the same as when u raise ur hand during the benediction, determining what denomination you come out of.........
This is how church choirs need to be. Unified, in harmony and love. IN UNIFORM!! I'm 24 and I say we need to go back to this way of church.
Yes!!
That run at 0:41 🔥
Man you can't beat that old school processional!! I love it!

I can remember when I was living in Detroit in 76-79 .Burnet Baptist could sing like this.
I understand your concern, for I too miss those services such as this. I experienced these services in Chicago at First Church and Fellowship, however.
