And this is why you always lift off the accelerator entering Flugplatz... when air pressure is low underneath the car, it creates downforce. When that air pressure turns high, the car becomes an airplane wing. If there is anyone that knows that effect better, it's Mark Webber and Peter Dumbreck.
Other way round. The downforce is generated by the widening underbody sucking the car down. The problem is that effect which is similar to a venturi relies on the front cross section being small so once the car lifts off the downforce reduces as the difference in cross section from front to rear decreases. Once it is equal no downforce is produced and due to the flat underside of the car the oncoming air can lift it up like a sail in the wind. This is compounded by the rear wing still pushing the car down so not even the heavy engine can keep it on the ground. Same thing that happened at Le Mans with the Mercs, going full speed over a bump, car lifts, downforce reduced and that was enough to flip em. You want only as much downforce as you need as it does create drag, so this type of accident can happen with practically any race car that relies on underbody downforce. At the best of times bumps that reduce the effectiveness of that just create understeer, at worst you end up backflipping. It's a bit weird that section of track hasn't been altered yet or some taller catchfences installed at the very least.
Paul Hawkins, Hugh Dibley, Joachim Winkelhock, Denny Hulme, Brian Redman, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Stefan Bellof, John Morton, Yannick Dalmas and Bill Auberlen can also attest to that.

I like how to hitbox of the car never actually lifts off from the track, just like in real Gran Turismo.
the sounds that come out of that GT-R GT3 is amazing
when i was in the cinema to watch the movie, i cried.
now i watched it again and i have to cry again
This is the cost of adrenalin 😢

one of my new fav movies of all time
even if i drive in a sim it’s still scary to drive in the nurburgring knowing this can happen.
It took him some time, but he did get back in the car and started racing again because of his passion. Even after being traumatised by the crash.
I still have no idea how his car was the only one to go flying when the others, especially the... I'm gonna assume it's a ferrari... didn't go flying... maybe it was just how they made the car or something, like to much areo dynamics or something... I don't know, I'm not a car expert.
everyone else lifted off on that straight [you're supposed to to keep the car planted], he didnt. rookie mistake + overconfidence.
This movie was just so good
Yup
Meh, decent for me
Damn that crashing scene is crazy get goosebumps whenever i see it
Well it's the green hell and Niki Lauda almost die in that track back in 1976 🇦🇹
Watching the crash gave my PTSD that's what it looks like in the cab when u flip fr
what a scene... i didnt even expect it. I was so shocked lol. so good
I’ve had a crash similar at Nurburgring 3 yrs ago In my 911 still traumatizes me til this day. I’m thankful of god that I’m alive.
This Is so emotional 😭😔🥺
in real life jann did survive tho
Good scene, but the inaccuracies with the track layout are ridiculous! It's like they're going through (figuratively speaking) corner 5 in one shot, the next shot they are in corner 6, the shot after that corner 3, then 4, and then they just jump to corner 8...
Exactly. It‘s really annoying. Also the „final turn“ in Le Mans. Tf is that corner?! It looks like the final turn at the Hungaroring but definitely not the Ford Chicanes
Its movie bruh 😅
Its like airport scene in too fast too furious where the plane never take off 😅
@@suhericoba911 we know it is, but it‘s kinda annoying that people call it the best racing movie and like very realistic, yet they can‘t even be bothered to film the scenes on the right part of the circuits…
@@stingerbean1848this guy don't know how to enjoy movie lol
@@suhericoba911It's Gran Turismo movie based on real life. Sorry we were expecting accuracy
10/10 the Moive’s and the vid.
4:00 what was the name of that roller coaster?
Ring Racer. Was supposed to open as the fastest launch coaster in the world (0-135 MPH in 2.5 seconds) in 2009, but it had a whole bunch of issues during testing that pushed the opening date back to 2013 and resulted in the speed being lowered to just under 100 MPH. It operated for like a week in 2013, had more issues, and has never opened again since. It's considered one of the biggest failures in amusement ride history.
Bro, someone legit almost died (as in the real incident) and you’re here focusing on a fucking roller coaster- 😭
@@FilipinoDoesMusicXD 😂😂
Omg I love this movie just watched it last night and ima watch it again to ight
1.22 damn that turbo sound is insane i love those turbo sounds👍
I didn't know that the gt-r gt3 can make that stutututu sound dude thats so cool!!!!!
I got to watch this because my cousin saw this rolling by
This turned out to be the best movie ive watched in ages, this definitely was a rollercoaster of emotions
1:51 In my head I said "slow the F down bro" when I saw it in the theater. This is where you don't want to flat out. I don't care if I loose a second or two. I rather coast up that crest then power out afterwards. Source: Sim rig at home
That really was a flying lap
no.
1:20 1:21 1:46 1:47 0:32 0:39
this scène made me crying a lot and every time i see it it hurts my hart over and over again
it's good that you guys make it clear to everyone. the most important person here is Jann Mardenborough! Not that spectator that died
Jann has big tragic accident of Flugplatz in airfield massive horror crash of one killed spectator in Nurburgring Grand Prix Nordschleife in the movie. In real life 2015, Jann has wreck and survived in Nordschleife
Headwind. Unpredictable.
The fact that this ACTUALLY HAPPENED in REAL LIFE is absolutely scary.
Why are their visor open? Lol
because its movie, lol
No in the reality if you racing in endurace category or in gt catagory , you still can open your visor inside the car because it was compleletly close,if you drive in formula category You can no longer open your visor because there will be gravel and stones coming into your eyes during the race
You can literally drive with them open if u want but in open wheel like Indy car and F1 they close them cuz of the wind or bugs 🤣
@@elactionwilly2135 yes
If my perents saw me go through a crash like that they would be traumatized to see me do like 10 or 6 rollovers
2:05 I didn't even know there was a Gran Turismo movie... but after seeing this clip I guess I'm gonna have to go watch it. holy
Real world physics are a bitch, cuz that never happens in the video games.
As they say, reality often surpasses fiction.
If that's the crest i'm thinking of bad things tend to happen to you if you don't lift off, never did a straight up stall maneuver like that but definitely lost enough traction to ski right into the wall
Beam NG?
actually, when i go too quick on that deadly uphill with a low downforce car in assetto corsa for example, my front end actually goes up and make me crasjedso i would say that some games can copy those physics but of course the crash isn't that fatal in games
@@gabrielsebastian8444Assoluto is one mobile game that has this example as well, don't remove the throttle on Flugplatz, you can be sure your ass is going to be served on a silver platter flying into Barry R.
What a painful moment but a beautiful movie
The dude that this movie is about he played the stunt double of his own character
Me speeding to fix my fucked up Dominoes order 🤣
I remember seeing this crash in a compilation and then I went to see the movie and when I saw the scene I said to myself "no way... no"
The car took "do a flip!" Seriously
When I was watching the movie.. I knew if he didn't lift off the throttle he was going airborne.. the moment he entered that uphill climb I had an internal dialogue.. "he's going to fly" ....
"your car will come back on track in 3"
why is there the stranger things' sheriff ? 2:42
1:55 the car behind (yellow black car) was using PERTAMINA sponsored on his rear wing. Correct me if im wrong
most challenging track even in the GT7 game it self , you can feel it when you are racing and also the most thrilling track as well ,
l loved how this scene was done during crash while the car was rolling it got shut off in the process amazing detail in this movie
10, excellent movie, just watched it on Netflix. Good for Nissan for coming up with this idea!!
Didn't realize that his arms started swinging in this clip, i thought they stayed crossed
Thats stretch of track is scary
Be honest people, if you've played Gran Turismo, you've gotten a bit of air on that downhill at least once
Niki Lauda to Jann Mardenborough following the Nurburgring crash: You're lucky because your car didn't burn! Mine did and they thought I'm dead...
You always hit the brake before that hill that's why he needed fuel and tires as the track was cooling down way too much allowing lift off. He's lucky to be alive even in the movie. He did get out injury free in real life but he was very lucky. Most people don't get that lucky.
How do track temperatures correlate with cars lifting off?
@@FilipinoDoesMusicXD Gravity. Air. Math. Science. Rapid Evaporation for Cooler fluid and Transmission fluid. Oil. Burn quicker when higher elevation and higher speed mix. Tyre grip.
Did he went over Flugplatz at full throttle?
DID HE WENT OVER FLUGPLATZ AT FULL THROTTLE!?
How did this happen only to his car and not the other cars very confused rn
Everyone else let off for about half a second I’m assuming
This is the only part of the movie that did anything for me. And something tells me the actress who plays his mother has some tragedy in her past that she was able to draw upon for her absolutely gut wrenching cries, because she was not acting. That was real.
The reason was the breaks where glazed
あのクラッシュはグランツーリスモのクラッシュでよく見かけるやつ、UA-camで見たことある
in the movie, i was actually crying.
I held back tears when I saw this part. And then the guy let’s him finish his lap. Such a good movie
@@LandynMeauxsame i almost started crying
1:56 déjà vu to the ‘99 24 hours of Le Mans with the flying Mercedes
Jann is fading, fading fast
When it's gone, it's gone...... you know it ....
This shows history always repeats
In real life he drives the super gt gt500 calsonic gtr r35 witch is sick!!!!
