Still sounds as fresh and meaningful as when I first heard it in Southern CA. in 1974. Should have gotten more airplay. So glad I have it on a couple of CD releases.
You're spot on, donald: it is indeed flawless. Her whispered/intense delivery of the initial "Just" in the second verse is stunning. Bless her heart, she knew.
There were so many versions of this song in the 70s. Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge had the most successful, and I loved it. Petula's version was wonderful, too. It charted on the Adult Contemporary Billboard chart, but never made the Hot 100.
ALL Mentioned are just" Also Rans" because the only version I want to listen to is The Ultimate, Unmatchable and Unsurpassable by The Legendary PETULA CLARK.

This is so pretty 😍 💗
Beautiful song …. Petula’s version is flawless !
Elvis recorded a version at his 1973 recording sessions at STAX Studio in Memphis.
Someone is behind Clark in the 3rd verse starting with "Dreaming" and she's wailing. Absolutely an incredible effect.
