Spring rolls are as different from Popiah as noodles are from pasta. Popiah are primary made from shredded yam and the rolls are not fried. Just adding peanuts to turn spring rolls into Popiah is tantamount to saying that by adding olive oil to noodles you have an a plate of Italian pasta! The dipping sauce is Kecap Manis - the original and precursor of the ubiquitous ketchup we have today. And it is pronounced "keh" "chup", not "key" "cap". And finally, I wonder how GW says he can taste the garlic when he didn't use it all in the video! 🤣

Gok I know you so well. Getting back to spring rolls they must have been related to your dad made of the same size large and very HOT in a brown paper bag with the hot oil blotted on the paper so hot you'd get burned trying to eat them! I wasnt all tit tum and bum then! Kung foo wasn't around that came later on. I learned how to make my own sweet and sour sauce my son was very impressed! Reason being I wanted MORE quantity for my money.
