I WAS SO SHOOK WHEN I WAS WATCHING THIS LIVE AND I WAS JUST JAMMING AND THEN MARK AND MAUREEN JUST FUCKING DABBED I CANT I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! I love this cast
Dear everyone complaining about them Dabbing: could you chill for like 2 seconds. It was a little joke they threw in for fun they aren't trying to "Mess with the time period" It's not like they changed some huge part of the show so please shut up and go watch the original cast if you don't like them. Sincerely, someone who knows what a joke is.
I just watched this live with my sister having only seen a few BTS rehersal videos and none of the Sneak Peek Performances. So when we saw Mark and Maureen dab, we were dying in our seats! XD
All I'm saying is I'm glad we've got the UK tour and production. Ours is so inventive, updated yes but still within the original story and what Jonathan wanted to tell.
Honestly, I think the dabbing is funny. And I saw this production when it came to my city and they DID NOT DAB in the actual show. I know because I was looking for it. They were having fun for this recording.
Anyone go see this yet? I'm debating if I should see it when it comes to Jersey in May. I love RENT and probably saw it 9 times already but Im scared the tour cast will mess it up for me.
Justseen this in indianapolis it was great! My only issue was t seemed high schoolish, maybe its cause i seen the movie first and it gave me a mide 20s vibe like friends. But overall it was still awesome and i enjoyed it
Danny Kornfeld! He’s incredible and has great things going for him. He just made his Broadway debut this month, starring in a new musical, Harmony! It’s playing at the Barrymore theater
I understand the dab is a fad right now but this show was set in the late 80s so dabbing would be irrelevant and I'm kind of annoyed that they did that
TheCheese434 It isn't. Did you hear "Out Tonight"? It was low key disrespectful. But I will say that this is a non union touring cast so they tend to suck ass sometimes I think.
including modern things in older adaptations starts to make plot holes like if a movie that’s set in the 80s has a poster for like Groundhog Day or something then people with common knowledge would immediately point that out and would leave audience members confused. For this, the dab wasn’t made until like 2016 or something and even though its clear that this is set in the 80s it would still leave the audience confused as to why someone in the 80s would be doing something popular in this time therefor breaking the immersion.
Wait, Was this the official cast? I already saw the 20th anniversary show, and those are definitely not the actors I saw in it. It said those weren't understudies. Even if they were THATS A HELL OF A LOT OF UNDERSTUDIES.
Danny Kornfeld is an amazing actor with an incredible voice who is going places. He just needs the right role to fall into. He just made his Broadway debut this month.
@@heather.chandler.musicals I feel like I need to emphasize that this was a joke! Danny Kornfeld is absolutely amazing, I'm very excited to see him in Harmony!
Is it just me or does he look like he's working out? I know dance is a physical activity (duh) but part of it's presentation is making it look like it's effortless and I feel like the choreography sometimes with this new tour is very rigid. They need to loosen up a little bit - I noticed that with "Out Tonight", it looks like aerobics moves when it should just be people expressing themselves.
The only thing I don't like too much about this (and it's not the dab; you all need to calm tf down btw it's supposed to make a message more palpable to an audience, most likely because there are people who probably don't know what fad means) is that the melody has changed a little bit. The women are still singing in an A flat chord and the guys are singing in an E flat chord. In my OPINION, the C chord for the guys sounds better to start with because then when they go up to the E flat it helps push the song along.
KoolKyleful A show needs to adapt to the times to keep audiences engaged and so they get the message across. The way a 1990's audience gets the message is different from how a 2010's audience will receive it. The message is the most important part so don't focus on something as trivial as a dab
Why do all the Marks never sing 'hating convention, hating pretension' as expressively as Anthony? Mark is singing they fucking hate it okay? You gotta sing 'hating' as if you're vomiting alright? Spit it to the fucking ground guys. HATING CONVENTION HATING PRETENSION!
plaidcarogemm Right, but this is a period piece and also it looks like they're trying too hard to be "trendy" so yeah I thought it was extra and unnecessary.
Mo Williams The fact that you're distracted by a dab is unfortunate and short-sighted. A show must adapt to the times to be more palpable to an audience. You're distracted from the larger message of the show due to your distaste for one motion. Sad.
Not to add to the complaints, and besides it being set in the 80’s and dabbing not existing then etc. I kinda feel like it takes you out of it for a different reason,la vie boheme is about sub culture and outcasts and being weird and authentic etc etc and dabbing kinda feels as mainstream as you can get at the time of this video being released and I think that’s where it doesn’t sit right for me
I swear this Mark is trying to be Adam Kantor and Anthony Rapp good singing but the energy is not there this is posed to be one of the most energetic songs of the show and it's not there I've seen tours way better than this
Danny Kornfeld is an amazing actor with a moving, incredible voice. He just needs the right role to fall into. I’ll say this role/show wasn’t the best fit for him.
They dabbed at the line when Mark said "any passing fad". Makes sense
the second i saw him dab i went straight to the comments. you did not disappoint
Alex Yau More like any passing DAB
Rent 20th anniversary
Alex Yau wasn’t a thing in 1989
NerdyGamer2001 you meant 1991
To everyone bitching about the dab: That attitude toward passing fads is exactly what this song is protesting
MyHugeBoxOfGames I thought you were gonna say that attitude against the homeless is exactly what Maureen is protesting.
Oh my god I finally get it now
Maureen is protesting losing her performance space, not UA-cam comments.
This comment section is my new home
Mark and Maureen dabbed in 1989. Mark and Maureen invented dabbing.
A Koala Bear 1991
A Koala Bear 🐨 You've opened my eyes to the future wise one.
I WAS SO SHOOK WHEN I WAS WATCHING THIS LIVE AND I WAS JUST JAMMING AND THEN MARK AND MAUREEN JUST FUCKING DABBED I CANT I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! I love this cast
This is already one of my favorite Rent songs! I just saw the movie on Netflix last Friday and I'm seeing this version on Sunday in Costa Mesa.
I Saw this today and i loved it so much (with this cast)
Dear everyone complaining about them Dabbing:

I loooove this
Saw this last night. They were amazing!!
this was so god when i saw it live
ping did they dab when you saw it?
yes
dominique padilla yeah they did
saw It at the Shubert in Boston Last week. My fiance and I were VERY happy with their performance.
I just watched this live with my sister having only seen a few BTS rehersal videos and none of the Sneak Peek Performances. So when we saw Mark and Maureen dab, we were dying in our seats! XD
OMG. THE DAB. AMAZING.
I really hope they do a cast recording I loved them so much 💜
All I'm saying is I'm glad we've got the UK tour and production. Ours is so inventive, updated yes but still within the original story and what Jonathan wanted to tell.
Did mark and Maureen seriously dab? 😂
kara smith WHY DID THEY DAB ITS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL. THATS WHAT THEYRE TRYING TO DO😂
Olivia Perez I guess it's the beauty of theatre. No two shows will ever be the same. I do love when there are little modern twists on old shows 👌
"To any passing fad"
they did. everyone in the audience gasped. it was great.
if anyone has the chance to see this do it. it was amazing. i saw it in chattanooga and was amazed
Idk why everyone's so mad about the dab. It's called breaking the fourth wall. It made sense, and in my opinion, got a laugh out of me.
That's what I've been thinking!
Saw this last night!!!!!
Mark and Maureen just dabbed.
I scared for life
The dab....angels costume.....the MOST egregious thing here is that HIDEOUS wig they put on the SOL soloist.
Me: This is actually alright.
Them: *dabs*
Me: oh dear..
Claire Victoria oh come on really? Why is it bad to update a show so as to make it more palpable to an audience
Melissa2087 I saw it Tuesday (the 21) in Detroit and they were amazing. 20 million times better than this video shows.
yes i saw this
yes they dabbed
yes it was hilarious
I got Mark's understudy when I saw the show. I don't remember his name, but he was the best performer in the show.
Perhaps Brandon Uranowitz? I haven’t seen him in Rent, but he is phenomenal in Falsettos and other things.
Justseen this in indianapolis it was great! My only issue was t seemed high schoolish, maybe its cause i seen the movie first and it gave me a mide 20s vibe like friends. But overall it was still awesome and i enjoyed it
THEY DID THAT
Not a fan of the dabbing...
TO ANY PASSING DAB
omg.
Avi Shaw NO
No.
for some reason when I saw this in Charleston last week it seemed like some of the songs and seems were shortened
Do they have merch at the shows on tour?
Who plays Mark?
Danny Kornfeld! He’s incredible and has great things going for him. He just made his Broadway debut this month, starring in a new musical, Harmony! It’s playing at the Barrymore theater
I understand the dab is a fad right now but this show was set in the late 80s so dabbing would be irrelevant and I'm kind of annoyed that they did that
TheCheese434 I agree. It's a period piece there was no need for that
KoolKyleful and this cast isn't even good. I really want them to recast the entire thing.
TheCheese434 It isn't. Did you hear "Out Tonight"? It was low key disrespectful. But I will say that this is a non union touring cast so they tend to suck ass sometimes I think.
KoolKyleful yeah. I didn't ever think I could hate any version of RENT but this is changing my mind
KoolKyleful the only thing I didn't absolutely hate was Take Me or Leave Me
I saw this in Portland, ME!
How was it?
Manuel Orozco freaking awesome! changed the theatre game!
Awkward and Artsy I just got back from seeing it in Costa Mesa and I thought it was awesome too. But I've seen better stuff in theatre
they dabbed im fuckign
if y’all don’t that dab out of one of my favorite songs on the world i might pass out💀
I went to school with David. Good for him.
including modern things in older adaptations starts to make plot holes like if a movie that’s set in the 80s has a poster for like Groundhog Day or something then people with common knowledge would immediately point that out and would leave audience members confused. Me while watching this video: :D
Me while reading the comments: D:
The dab tho
yall better not ruin rent for me idk what this what but yall can keep it
Wait, Was this the official cast? I already saw the 20th anniversary show, and those are definitely not the actors I saw in it. It said those weren't understudies. Even if they were THATS A HELL OF A LOT OF UNDERSTUDIES.
The dab and angle’s costume need to go
Floo Wing SO TRUE
The story of rent is based in new york in the 90’s. And they didn’t invent dabbing yet at that time.
From the twinky little black haired Mark to the dab I have to say I’m literally mortified. Unhook your claws from the musical I am begging you.
@@Calzoniee okay I’m glad this was a joke because I literally couldn’t tell 😂 I’m just here to support my boys. I can’t wait for you to see it!
I was feeling it until the Dab :/
Not too sure on this one. Might need to see a full performance, but the voices are just too high pitched for me atm.
Also, Angel just looks wrong.
Coaster Meems I saw him in it and I think he was an amazing angle
Hi matthew
Is it just me or does he look like he's working out? The little Asian chick with pink too is too cute never could find out who it was though

Umm it's the 90's. Why are we DABBING.
Yea I saw a community theater production of this that was better. Mark is too High pitched and lacks breath support.
Nate Hundley oh I'm sure...
Did they just do the dab😱?! Wtf are they doing with rent?!
"Any passing fad"...
BlurTech I know but it wasn't funny and unnecessary.
KoolKyleful Eh, fair enough
KoolKyleful A show needs to adapt to the times to keep audiences engaged and so they get the message across. The way a 1990's audience gets the message is different from how a 2010's audience will receive it. The message is the most important part so don't focus on something as trivial as a dab
🦌
You did not just dab, Maureen.
You did not.
Y.
wtf was that little dance mark did at the end omg
日本語字幕が欲しい…

These comments trigger me
Eh, at least the dab was kinda subtle?
I refuse to make a comment referencing the dab!
...
...fuck.
This show is set in the late 80's, the dabbing kind of ruined the feel....
was the dab necessary
Owain Milliken not at all
Lol, it went with the words "to any passing fad". So yeah, I guess in a way it was.
plaidcarogemm Right, but this is a period piece and also it looks like they're trying too hard to be "trendy" so yeah I thought it was extra and unnecessary.
It made me cringe the first time I saw it lol.
i domt even know if it was scripted because look at angel after they do it
The dab honestly ruined the whole thing.
Mo Williams The fact that you're distracted by a dab is unfortunate and short-sighted. A show must adapt to the times to be more palpable to an audience. You're distracted from the larger message of the show due to your distaste for one motion. Sad.
I saw the show last month, as far as I can tell... no dab
Not to add to the complaints, and besides it being set in the 80’s and dabbing not existing then etc. I kinda feel like it takes you out of it for a different reason,la vie boheme is about sub culture and outcasts and being weird and authentic etc etc and dabbing kinda feels as mainstream as you can get at the time of this video being released and I think that’s where it doesn’t sit right for me
there's no feeling it's just people playing Rent it doesn't resonate with the actors
I like it but damn dude who sings as mark did not do justice to the high notes :( still good though
Danny’s got an incredible, moving voice. Some roles are harder to fall into.
He just needs the right role to fall into, and is still new on the Broadway scene.
That dab really turned me off of the song 😭
Ok so I hate this
This is terrible.
Meh. Mediocre. And the added "dab" is just plain stupid. Will definitely be passing on this.
this is so ugly
Really don't like this Mark.
Danny Kornfeld is an amazing actor with a moving, incredible voice. He just needs the right role to fall into. I’ll say this role/show wasn’t the best fit for him.
just saw this a few days ago. did they get a new dude to play the jewish role?
Danny Kornfeld plays Mark in this :)
