Just polished the dustcover on my Technics SL-Q202, and see a visibly significant difference, thanks for your advice! I recommend for anyone doing this to use the grittiest polish to take out all the scratches before moving up to less gritty polishes because you don’t want to have to go back and waste time!

You can go as low as 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, scratch x2.0 on a wool pad. Then liquid wax via a flanel cloth, finish with a dry flannel. Turn your polisher upside down on low 1.5, hold your lid in your hands and hit the sides and front. HD tv screen cleaner removes static.

Just did a lid where the original owner went for a frosted look with 120 grit sandpaper. I went 100, 200, 400, 800 through 3000 and 2.0. Looks brand new. Took forever.

I saw so much materials and tools, it’s cheaper to buy a new dust cover for my Thorens…. But thanks anyway for the info.

Night and day difference. Great work.
If restoring lids in the future, I'd recommend switching arms often, otherwise your one arm will get jacked. Lol

In the absence of tools and with a great desire to put my favorite turntable in order, I polished the cap by hand. First I rubbed all the scratches with fine sandpaper, and instead of polishing paste I used one-component white toothpaste. I spent about eight hours polishing the entire lid.

Never even thought about using headlight restorer, what a great idea! Basically impossible to get the dust cover for my turntable so gonna have to go this route instead

hello! Good job! To disguise these small scratches that are deeper, you can try applying a small amount of acetone with a very, very fine brush! Thanks for the video.

Hey, I have a question. I recently bought a plastic vintage Philips recordplayer (22GF403). How can I restore the oxidated old plastic, and bring it back to life? I read a lot about the products youre using, but mostly for dustcovers. Thanks in advance!

Marine UV Protector will get rid of the static.

Spraying clearcoat protects from the elements and UV rays.

Do you think using Novus would have produced similar results?

Paper towels leave micro scratches in plastic. Don’t use! Use micro fiber towels for both applying products and buffing.

Will this process remove some light nicotine staining? The cover has some yellowing that doesn't look normal. Mostly near the edges.

Can you do this to smoked/tinted turntable covers? Or is it only for the clear ones? Anyone know?
    Thank you

But then I tried to do the inside and I regret it fully (Especially since I was already tired and started doing dumb mistakes)

Mistakes? Like hitting the labels or something else?

    •  2 роки тому +1

@@DJWolves97 like hitting the sides with the grinder. Of course the corners would just be impossible without a different set of tools

@ I did my dust cover with only a microfiber cloth, so if you’re worried about nicking something, use a cloth!

Would be a lot easier to see if done over a pure white background rather than the blue towel. Also light source is too direct.
