- Todd Pratt's walkoff homerun in Game 4 of the 1999 NLDS vs the Diamondbacks as called by Gary Cohen (who worked radio for the Mets at the time) and Chris Berman from ESPN.

That 1999 team was better than the one that went to the WS in 2000.
Yep, they were short Hampton's arm but Olerud and Ventura were gone/declined in 2000
@@nickgugie9673 Agree Ventura, Olerud and Ricky. Benitez blew 2 game 6 combacks.
Better rotation in 2000, but yeah, the '99 lineup and defense were insane, impossible to replicate. Bullpen might've been better all around, too.
Think of the fact that Octavio Dotel would be a trusted high leverage reliever for over a decade, and Bobby V went w Kenny Rogers. Benitez was even more at fault.
I was at that game. I had never felt the stadium shake that like that before. That '99 Mets team was great, despite coming up short.
100 💯 agree with u. I was 15 and listening to the game at work and went nuts when I heard it was gone. So happy for Todd. He had a good moment. Yes the teams was very good. Dam the Braves and the Mets bullpen. I honestly felt we would’ve beat the Yankees
So true. We were so close to being the first team to force a game 7 being down 0 3. Kenny Rogers could not throw a strike 🙄
Was there too! Literally stadium was shaking . Beyond unforgettable
keith troy Funny thing is that I didn’t even get to my seat until like the 5th inning because driving and parking around the stadium was such a shit show. At least I got an extra inning and a dramatic finish!
Should have been at game 6 in 86'
One of the most Amazing things about the Mets in 98-2001 were the unlikely heroes. What an AMAZING TEAM THEY WERE.
Gary's call gave me chills.
radconserv68 same
Remember watching this on ESPN. Didn't catch the Cohen call as he was still doing radio only.
Great time. I thought Finley caught that!
Hard to believe, that Pratt's home run was 20 years ago today. It was an incredible game.
And it still feels like it was yesterday. Seriously you sure this game wasn't in 2018. Lol
My favorite homer ever. Got to love tank best backup catcher in MLB history.
Can't believe it's going to be 20yrs since this happened.
Mantei knew it was gone from the "crack".
true, but it barely left, and you never know because Finley was one of the best centerfielders ever
@@specimen- Steve Finley was the truth!!!
Need the Charlie Steiner call from ESPN Radio. Looked for it for years.
The last two years in 1998 and 1999, Steve Finley let a home run go over the centerfield fence: 1998 WS Game 3 from Scott Brosius and 1999 NLDS Game 4 from Todd Pratt.
The only series ending walk off home run in team history
Gary Cohen is the best broadcaster ever
I like Gary's call.
I had been listening to WFAN who at the time was giving away Mets and Yankees tickets since both were in the playoffs. One day Mets tickets, the next day Yankees. I had been calling for the past few days regardless of what tickets they were giving away. One day when they were giving away Yankees playoff tickets, I placed what was probably my 50th call of the day, and someone finally picks up the phone. Now one would think that the person working at WFAN studios would answer the phone using the call letters of the station, right? Wrong. Dude answers with "Hello?". I'm confused, so I ask if this is WFAN. He says, "yeah". He answers with a "YEAH"! Like pulling teeth. So I ask if this is the "Box Office Blitz", and he says "yes". Then I ask the logical follow up question of, did I win?? And he responds with, "Oh yeah, but they're Mets tickets not Yankees. Do you mind?" DO I MIND?? LOL! I'm a Mets fan! Of course I don't mind! So I have to go down to Astoria in order to pick up the tickets from their studio, and the next day my father and I go to the game. Mets are ahead in the series 2 games to 1, but tied in this game 3-3 going into the bottom of the 10th. Todd "Tank" Pratt comes to the plate and my father looks at me and says, "this guy is gonna hit a home run". I'm like GTFO! This guy hits a moon shot to dead center and Finley has a beat on it. Deepest part of the park. Most difficult part of the park to hit a dinger. Finley is an outstanding fielder. It's so close, and nobody in the stadium can get a solid look at the play. It's just too far away. What we do know is that the ball is right at the top of the wall, and Finley barely has to leap in order to make the grab. When Finley comes back down, there isn't a soul in the park that thinks it's a home run. Everybody thinks he caught it. I know it sounds loud in the video, like the fans yelling never stops. But if you listen closely, it tails off when Finley jumps, and only picks back up when he looks at his empty glove in disgust. It was one of the most surreal moments I have ever experienced in my life. From winning these improbable tickets, to having my father call the game and series clinching homer, to thinking for a second that Finley may have actually caught that ball until quickly realizing that he didn't, and the game (and series) was won! Just an amazing game, and an amazing experience.
Outstanding comment. Thanks for sharing.
gary cohen IS KING
Buck Showalter was managing the D'backs this year. I wonder if he ever thinks back to this game, now that he's with the Mets. 🙂
I'm certain he did when Pratt was there for old timer's day
@@thedude3065 Ha--probably true! 🙂
Todd “pizza parlor” Pratt ! Loved this guy as a kid just for this play
Gary’s vocabulary is unreal
The Charley Steiner call was the best (for ESPN radio). Would love to find it somewhere.
He stepped ALL over Sterling's call of Boone sending Stankee'z to WS. As a Mets diehard still gotta admit this m that r equal. One to the WS n One to the Pennant without Big Mike WOW!!
Todd Pratt fanclub president right here.
Is anyone else watching positive met highlights hoping that the 2021 team wakes up?
My parents were at that game
I was there !!!
I had a lot to drink later that night
Outfielder didn't even jump. If he had any hops he could've caught that.
brodisius ironically Steve Finley had good hops, he ran out of room
Mr. Mooojooo Rissssingggg
Holy. Shit.
My dad went absolutely ape shit
Pratt was not known for having much power in his swing, him hitting one to the deepest part of the ball park & off a 95+ fast ball thrower like mantie is crazy...
I had more power than many.
The pitcher knew when heard that Crack of the bat.
He worked at a pizza parlor
Finley could've easily jumped and caught that
That was a sad attempt at a home run robbery. i think Finley has about a half inch vertical leap.
It wasn't so bad, since the D'Backs beat the mighty Yankees 2yrs later!!
It's Over! 0:12
tank
Finley had a shot if he timed his jump better
That was an ugly swing that produced a good result.
Cliche #10. "He got all of that"
Hn
Cohen's radio call is 10x better, Gary was so much better on radio back in the old days. like most TV play by play guys he's gotten sloppy.
Rusty Kuntz your mental if you think that!
I feel SNY Gary would have done better. His calls seem more crisp there than here
That's what made it great. He was deliriously happy!
You’re totally wrong!
Chris Berman is better at Football
These are two of the worst calls I've ever heard lmfao
Gary Cohen is a net negative!!!
Was drivin a cab in Strong Island NY omw to LGA Airport at this moment with a fellow NY Mets hardcore fanatic in my backseat we r in decent flow of traffic about 10 mins from Airport if i remember my route there correctly I'm at the end of the GCParkway about to jump onto offramp to entrance. Van Wyck to offramp for JFK Airport and Cross Island Pkway to GCP then offramp...for some reason I'm thinking Whitestone lol sorry it's been a minute and i forget lil things alot these days. Can do it with eyes closed BUT to recite it back verbally I'm doodoo n believe it or not I'm a writer lol. Dont judge me from this please lol my synonyms is wat is taking a huge hit just too many rounds in the ring PLUS the drugs n alcohol stupidity ANYWAYS lol, the cars to my left and right must have been locked into Cohen and WFAN as we were bc wen he hit it the call was electric n we all celebrated honkin n such..never forget that...such a NYC typical moment...strangers then sports moments brings us together...she might be a mess rite now but wen shes on point and electric especially wen its sports related, my city is #1 worldwide n that comes from an Ex Marine and visitor of over 15 different countries. Spain and Futbol comes close and Argentina during Messi's 1 cup win was collassal but NYC wen its the Mets Knicks Yanks is beautiful. Btw, 1 yr later i met Bobby V at LGA while he was droppin off his wife in a rent a car from the Mets sponsor lol shook hands n told him Gotta beat the Stanks he laughed n said we will give it a go.
