Single cam ftw
All stock D16Z6
have u done some jewelry/ring scanning?
Not with this scanner it's not really capable of scanning things that are that small that being said I have an actual jewelry scanner if you want to check out that video.

Creality send me their new CR-Scan Lizard 3D scanner before it has been released to check it out, see what I thought of it and make a video about it. So far this is one of the best 3D scanners at this price point that I have used. thank you for giving technical information ,give us more understanding base in actual performance ....
Can you get angles?
Glad you mentioned the “markers” or control points (CP). In professional surveys these are a must when stitching models together. If the software is any good, you should be able to select these CPs and join the models correctly. Your body panel is a perfect example.
Thanks for the review.
Telescoping . . . Telescopic !
Yeah, I do mess up wording some times 😅
When did almost 800$ become “budget “
When your other option is $10,000+
Nice Job showing the features, just picked up the CR-Scan01 from Creality and have been looking around for best practices on scanning and using the tool. As this is a similar unit from the same company this helps understand the process better, Your work is greatly appreciated.
I thought about getting the cr01 but the pre-order seems to be a better deal and higher resolution so I figured I'd wait for it.
The Kickstarter campaign is disputed now
Yeah I know. Not a great thing to happen 😅
thanks for the show!
Hahaha every NDE guys has a few cans of that rolling around
If you noticed every unboxing online from creality has a damaged box. They sent me a used one. So upset
What do you mean by a damaged box? That does suck if you did get a use unit for sure and I would be upset as well. With that said if it still works as it should and all the parts are with it then I wouldn't care that much to be honest. These are just tools to me so as long as they work I really don't care about anything else. 😁👍
Whoever discounts these scanners first will win. A $700 scanner is 5x the cost people can spend.
Sadly that's not happening anytime soon. You can get an Xbox Kinect and make that into a 3d scanner. It's not going to be the best scanner but you can get something going.
@@GomeowCreations I can't believe you are telling me this! I've had a Kinect for like ever and barely used, now I'll have use for it OMG! Thx man
No problem but make sure to look up how to do it with your computer. Let me know how that works out for you too. 😁👍
I think there is a function in the software that will remove the turntable automatically. Making for Motorsports used it on his review.
There is but it doesn't always clean up all of it also you have to move to part to do that and with the coating on it I wanted to avoid touching it as much as I could. 😁👍
At $600.00, whose budget does this work for.
This is relatively cheap compared to the price of other 3D scanners that were on the market at the same time ranging from _10k to $15k.
The scanner is also over a year old I believe now and there are newer ones on the market that are $350 to $450
Sadly I got my scanner and I have not had any luck getting any sort of good detailed scan. Forget 0.05mm claims, I can't even get 0.5mm accuracy. I've scanned the same object dozens of times in a variety of settings and cannot get things to scan at all. I tried multiple models, figures, even a little toy bunny and it just can't get things well. I don't know if something changed in software from the alpha-shown footage to the new released version to make it worse, or if this scanner is defective, or if just... literally anything i try doesn't work or whats going on. I've watched every video I could find and every seems to have such an easy time getting scans, except me.
Yeah 3d scanning isn't easy and still isn't just point and shoot sadly.
So when it comes to this scanner it's not very good at scanning small stuff at all. I like to think of it being able to scan stuff in the medium to large range. Like a game controller on the smaller end for sure and a cars fender on the larger end.
It's not great as small details for sure. I found that revopoint mini does a much better job at small parts. bit.ly/BlueLight3DScanner
The 0.05mm clam is the accuracy of the scan not how small of something it can scan if that makes sense.
telescopic* not telescoping
Haha yeah 😅
Finally someone using a scanner for a real application and not just random junk in their house
When I saw the thumbnail, I knew that was a honda dizzy. Had to click to make sure lol
i spent so much time as a teenager repairing and converting those from obd2 to obd1 for my cars.
You are right, this is and OBD2 dizzy from a 99 CRV 😁👍
I did not realize how good I had it with the Einscan software. The auto align is a huge time saver.
Yeah the Revopoint software does it all in real time so that is really handy. I know the creality software has been updated so I don't know how well it works now but I was going to check it out and see some time soon.
great if compatible software for those of us operating on Macs...
Accuracy is about the same as scanners based on Kinect V1, veeeeery far from the 0.05 mm stated in their webpage.Just a marketing lie, thanks for making this clear+++ thumbs up for your honesty
Shit accurate as fuck
There are control points in unique looking combinations over the entire rotating platform. I wonder if deleting the platform as a first step in post processing might be making alignment your scans more complicated.
Maybe 🤔
Good job! I am considering supporting this project on KS, but I would like to play a little bit with scanning results obtained from this scanner. Is it possible that you will share your scanning result(through some filetransfer or anyhow)? I mean the actual files, either cr studio project or already processed ready to go 3d model file(stl, obj, etc.). Ideally the scans should contain objects that are modeled in CAD (for example some 3d printed parts). Particullary I would like to compare the original CAD model of object with the scan. Anyway any files obtained from this scanner are welcome .
Amazing
😁👍
Great video! Can you mirror the object after it's been scanned to 3d print?
You should be able to mirror whatever you want and the 3D software you use for editing, like blender.
Thank you for the video! Next time, please use AESUB scanning spray. It is vanishing and therefore cleaning of object and surrounding is not necessary.
I was trying to figure out a recipe for a matte spray that was non-corrosive and washable years ago, and gave up (not a chemist!). Today I learned: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamantane "adamantane slowly sublimes even at room temperature" (key ingredient in aesub vanishing spray). Thanks!
this exact scanner is already available on AliExpress.
Really, how much is it on there?
Id put a mirror or something really shiney over the turntable...no need to clean something that wont scan.
There is something in the software that will scan the turntable and auto select it so it makes clean up a lot easier 😁👍
Wait till be an app soon mobile tech will be just as handy.
What do you mean?
This is really cool, but the technology isn't quite where I want it to be yet for the price. It's getting there though. I'd say in another 2 or 3 years it will make a lot of progress.
Too bad the product will never be released to backers now
Is that what they said in the last email update?
@@GomeowCreations specifically the email goes on and on about how Creality totally could likely win the courts but that it would take too long so instead they are trying to talk to Kickstarter about issuing everyone refunds instead. They arnt even giving backers an option that’s just what they are doing. So yeah I’d say the project was dropped.
Well that isn't good to hear at all. I done feel back for all the backers but at the very least I hope everyone gets all their money bad.
Sadly I have no info on my end. 😅
@GomeowCreations I just checked the Kickstarter, and it is currently unavailable due to an Intellectual Property dispute.
Wanted to make you and any viewers aware of it’s status as of May 14 2022.
Yeah I have seen the info about this and it really sucks. They are saying they are still going to fulfill all the backer but I just don't know when
"Too small object" WAT?? Hey, *most* of your 3D printing is small! That's why people buy it - to print small parts, broken in devices. And 3D scanner MUST work perfect with details of match box size. Otherwise it's absolutely useless.
Yeah too small is definitely a thing with these kinds of scanners. There is a blue light scanner from RevelPoint that is able to scan much smaller and detailed pieces compared to this scanner. But then again I also have another scanner that is jewelry grade or for dental applications that can scan small objects with incredible detail but that scanner is also around $6,000.
Is this scanner is good for scanning what I like to think of as medium sized parts so anything from the size of your hand to the size of a fender of a car.
I just did a video on a larger format scanner That's able to scan an entire person in just a couple minutes or even your entire car in a few scans.
If you can't find developer spray, foot powder spray works in a pinch.
Good to know
I love the videos you do on 3D printers and other products that companies send to you to test and do videos about. But I miss your jewelery videos or jewelery related videos like the casting ones you did. Any plans in the near future to make any jewelery?
Yep. Next video that should come out on Valentine's Day will be a jewelry video that has nothing to do with the tech stuff 😁👍. I'm also waiting for some materials to get here so I can do a casting video.
Looks like a great scanner. Be interesting to see how the price fits into the rest of the market.
$500-$600 on the low end and I think the retail price is going to be around $1,000 but I don't have any exact numbers yet.
@@GomeowCreations eh bout $600 is what they are saying. They plan kickstarter with 50% off at round $300 so no "low end' here, just flat the range.
Well that's nice. I was going of old info and I didn't know any of the pricing until they actually launched the kickstarter today 😅👍
what happens when a mirror is used for the turntable? Would the turntable disappear?
I don't know how well that would work but there is something in the software that will do that for you. I just didn't do it because I didn't want to handle the parts I was scanning due to the spray on it.
Creality ALWAYS has the nicest boxes (LOL)
Lol
How well would this work for drone propellors?
that is Artec Studio interface.....
I had to tool that up an that do look similar but they are not the same.
@@GomeowCreations even it's the same, I still can understand
I have an option to buy either the creality item you tested or the revopoint mini with blue light- if it were you which would you purchase?
I will be scanning everything from motorcycle parts to reverse engineering components from food industry equipment.
Thanks
That is going to be hard to say just because I haven't had the Revopoint mini in for testing yet. But I do have one the way and should get here in about a week or so. Check out my new video about the Revopoint pop2. That scanner is more or less the direct competition for the CR lizard. But I also talk about the mini in that video. Let me know if you have any other questions
@@GomeowCreations gotcha, thanks for the reply. I am also building a precision Matthews cnc conversion. I am hoping to utilize fusion 360 and the scanner to help reverse engineer damaged machine assy line parts.
Thanks
Sounds interesting. Well keep an eye out for my new video about the mini so you can see it in action
Can you use that scanner to scan a car to get accurate data to design bumpers and what not.
In short, yes but you will need to learn some 3d skills to do that.
Can you connect two or three scanners together to get clean scan?
You can do multiple scans and put them all together in the software
Seems obvious the scanner's base should be designed with a pattern recognizable by the scanner so that with a touch of a button it is automatically excluded.
This is an option for that but I wasn't using it due to having to scan just the base before starting the scan. I just didn't want to move the part to do that.
So is this potentially better than an iPhone 12/13 Pro Max?
I honestly don't know seeing that I don't own an iphone so I can't try it out to see
bleh...
i can build that widget in 3D Fusion in a FRACTION of the time. That said, I see benefit with this scan tool to import completely organic, extremely difficult-to-dimension shapes. Definite need there.
Yeah so could I it's just one of the things I grabbed at the time that I didn't mind getting the spray on it. And I also scanned all the other objects in the video to show that I can do more complex shapes. 😅👍
Can you tell us what the power output of the power brick is? A lot of backers are trying to figure out what power pack options we have for going outside to scan things.
I will have to check tomorrow. If you don't see a response by tomorrow just leave a comment to remind me 😁👍
@@GomeowCreations I was able to locate a video that showed the underside of the Lizard. The placard said DC12V3A. That is probably the output of the brick also, but verification would be good. Thanks!
I've been highly contemplating buying one of these for doing scans of a cars interior to help assist me with building roll cages. Curious to hear your opinion or experience with its accuracy on larger scans like that.
Oh that is a good idea. So with markers I was able to scan most of the body of the car with what looks like pretty good accuracy. I do need to just make some parts and see how well it lines up.
I tried to reverse engineering some aftermarket racing parts and it never went perfect with the cr01, I think my computer is too old and scans are too slow right now and the part's surface isn't perfect too so I painted it with mate spray cans, no marker result was a bit better but not accurate enough to design my own parts. I will buy a new computer with 32 or 64Gb or Ram let's see
Thanks for the reply, I think I might just go ahead and go through with this.
Nick, did you purchase this scanner to help with cage design? I'm looking into doing the same thing, and wanted to see how well it worked out for you. Thanks.
Can you 3D print from the scans?
Yes and no. So you can print from a scan but there might be part you need to clean up or extra parts they would just be floating in space. You will need to learn a little 3d software to clean it up and make it's fully printable.
What price point? what is the price? it's not on the market yet
is the program that laggy or is that just because of the video?
It's from recording the screen
Im just curious, and never used one, though I m planning to get one. As an experienced user, why do you think they won't just make the platform into a shiny piece so the scanner won't pick it up?
So for the most part it doesn't pick up shiny stuff but at the same time it would get lost a lot more when scanning.
@@GomeowCreations
Got it, thanks man
Looks like it’s more work than it’s worth
I did a really bad job at scanning in this video to be honest. That being said it's well worth it to be able to scan things vs making them from scratch in CAD software
I still haven`t come across anything else yet that steers me away from just using basic Photogrammetry.
I have never got photogrammetry to work for me at all in the past 😅
@@GomeowCreations There`s some magic software to help you along with it.
No set ups required, just off the cuff Scanning with almost any Camera.
The usual post-processing depending on the subject however. I have got accuracy to 0.5mm.
And what is this software called?
Best not to use a point to point measurement for measurements, use a metrology software like GOM inspect to get better and useable results!
can you scan and upload the scan of the Turntable? lol. It seems odd they want you to scan it first, i mean I know it is so the program can remove it automatically so your object is the only thing showing, just curious the detail of the turntable itself. (and if you can print multiple to have multiple projects or something)
The details on the turntable are not really important. You can literally just print something out and put marker stickers all over it and it would work pretty much the same.
I even skipped that step so it doesn't select anything so I just remove it later because moving my parts around and then moving them back every time I need to adjust is annoying.
Hi! how large of an area can you scan with this at a time without having to stitch sections together? Im thinking about scanning the chassis of a truck
Is the software license perpetual or subscription based?
The software is free and comes with the scanner. 😁👍 Fusion 360 on the other hand is a completely different program from a different company that I use to make and edit 3D models
What is the target price of this scanner ?
I'm I'm remembering right if you get one frome the Kickstarter you can get one starting at $300ish and retail is going to be $600-700.
So there's nothing on specs that the computer has to have to run this device it just plugs into anything and works? Windows 98, Vista?
I honestly don't know but I used it on a windows 10 gaming laptop,
Probably won't work on an operating system that is almost a quarter of a century old... Time to upgrade.
Also, from the kickstarter: What computer version is supported? Window 10 64 bit,Mac OS
@@msmith2961 You got a link? I got a dell xps but if it will work on my Surface Pro 4 I'd rather use that!
Well, I feel like I've been "BONED"...After completing the Creality Kickstarter and waiting for shipment on the SCAM Lizard, I got a message that Kickstarter took them down because of a lawsuit... I'm losing faith that I'll ever see it! NOW THEY QUIT UPDATING ME!!!
Yeah I saw that and feel terrible for the stress this is putting on all the backers of it. From what little info I have seen on this they will still be able to fulfill the backers rewards at minimum but as for a time frame on that I honestly have no idea when that is going to be.
How does it compare to Revopoint and Creality's other existing scanners right now?
It's better than the RevoPoint POP 1 but I don't have the 2 or the other creality 3d scanner to test against.
When I say it's better it gets better scans with more details and along with the dimensions of the scan being almost spot on. The software is a lot more involved with this scanner but that can be a good thing seeing that you can reacan stuff if needed to build the mesh
@@GomeowCreations it honestly seems to be the best budget scanner when it comes to high quality results but for the consumer level. It feels less gimmicky and a step closer to a professional ready product. Einscan and Creaform are wayyyy too expensive and not compatible with MacOs either which is a bummer especially now that Macs have M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max chips. It would be nice if Creality's could also update their UI and have it be optimized to the new chips as well. But ok just curious. Seeing it's 65% off Kickstarter is really calling me to buy this because my guess that this in full price is closer to $1500-2000 range which is expensive but also fair.
Yeah I know what you mean with the price difference and I think it was going to retail around the 1k range but might be under 1.5k but I'm not 100% sure.
One other thing that I don't know is if there is a Mac version of the software seeing that I used windows.
To much manually work for 3d scanning. Other scanners getting that much better.
Why don’t we talk about how all their customers were scammed on kick starter?
Scammed in what way? I know that they are getting sued from another 3D scanning company for the product on the kickstarter campaign and may not be able to release the retail product but I thought they would be fulfilling all Kickstarter orders according to what they said in the email to the backers. That's the last bit of info I have on that so if things have changed feel free to let me know.
This type of part (the fist one shown) is not really suitable for scaning, because you can measure it with caliper (as you shown) and create solid model in any solid modeler and it would be more accurate. You need a part with surfaces, which cannot be measured in any reasonable way. And if such part has measurable features you still create those directly after measuring it, because you do that anyway, to correct the scanners size errors.... The parts you shown after are much better representatives of the scanner ability........Well, just saying! Thanks anyway!
In this case it's possible scan a person?!?!
Yes you can
How small a detail will it capture? I am interested in .2 mm surface details.
What are you wanting to scan and maybe I can find something similar and try it out.
@@GomeowCreations try a D&D mini figure or something.. those have a lot of tiny details
the specs on their site say 0.05mm (=0.002") which should be pretty good
Did you get a chance to try their "color kit" theyre saying grabs texture and color? their implementation says for ar/vr or something which makes sense but im curious if it also gives extra data to auto align scans at all
Oh and is their software local to the PC or is it cloud based? i saw a preview video that looked like they were doing some cloud thing to upload.. if cloud is a requirement to use the software its gonna be a hard nope for me unfortunately
@@Artificial.Unintelligence tryng to print something illegal 🤛🤣
The software is all local. As for the color scanning, it's not an option in the software that I have. They will likely be putting out updated software at some point.
@@goransto6419 some people prefer software can run local only incase they are working in areas with no wifi or internet. Or future shtf.
Just got a email from creality that they have Been sued and had to remove all mention if cr scan lizard from media and that I'll recieve the scanner I pledged for but they won't be releasing it now
Oh well that sucks and is also very interesting. I will definitely be contacting them to see if they will give me any more info on that seeing that this is news to me.
That's not really how you measure features on a 3d scanned part. You need a software that can recognize features (cylindrical surfaces, sphere surfaces, flat parts, etc) and it will give you a "proper" averaged measurement. You can also measure distances between features, angles and etc. Choosing two points manually is just useless although it can give you some idea.
What software recognizes features like you mentioned? Thanks
@@No_Plastic Polyworks is industry standard.. but other software can do that too. even the software which comes with Creaform scanners can do that. Also most of the reverse-engineering CADs should be able to do similar.
@@chronokoks Thank you
One can simply use flour to make reflective surfaces scan better.
I'd also use pointclouds themselves in 3D modeling software that can manipulate them instead of meshing them.
POP is better in my opinion
I would not touch a Creality product with a shitty stick, they have released quite a few lemon products over the years and a lot of big YTbers have finished with Creality for offering cash bribes for favourable reviews despite them being aware of their review policies.
Naomi Wu has parted company with them for bad QA and for the bribing
Well that's good to know and yeah I have seen some hit and miss stuff with them in the past. I don't know anything about them bribing reviewers but honestly I kind of just stay in my own bubble for the most part.
I do have a lot of creality printers that I did buy and use all the time and so far the 2 items that they did send me have worked without any problems.
But thanks for the heads up and if I have any problems or anything like that I will be making videos about them. 😁👍
Cheaper to buy a 3D printer
Yeah you definitely could get some printers for cheaper than the scanner.
👍👍👍♥️
Thanks 😁👍
@@GomeowCreations .thanks you
Proprietary data+power port and cable instead of a USB C with PD that can deliver 100W no excuses 👎 Could have been interesting....
Is there anything else on the market today that's close to what this thing can do, for less than $1k? I'm so tired of Creality's crowdfunding, but I also don't want to miss out on this low price point if there's really nothing that competes in this general range.
Pop2 I'm curious how they compare
Well I should know soon since I have one of those on the way as well 😅👍
@@GomeowCreations Any chance you can post a comparison before the Lizard's campaign ends? I'm a retail-only Creality guy, whenever possible...
I can try it just depends when it gets here and if have have to to make the video about it but I will try
Can you try and scan some reflective surface object?
How about something that is behind transparent glass, like in a case
I did try to scan the hub when it was just reflective metal and that really work.
I don't know how well scanning through something transparent.
@@GomeowCreations
Thanks for help.
I have seen Creality photos and text is showing this scanner can be used with one of those battery power banks. But no other info, just that is says "sold separately"
Couldn't find any specs of the power bank or if creality sells one of those.
It would be nice a video showing it how much power it uses, what minimumrating power bank, and thus how portable it is.
Like you can take your laptop and the scanner somewhere in a field, where there's no mains power for kilometers around.
Thank you
its definately not budget here in sa it costs as much as a printer\
So do all scanners sadly.
A lot of 3d scanners are $5,000 or more so that is why this one is a budget one haha.
I bought the David 3D SLS scanner right after HP bought them out years ago. Still WAY better than this.
Well that's good that you have a nice scanner 😁👍
I keep looking for a smaller better and more portable one. Haven’t found one yet.
somehow doesnt look like there is a massive difference between photogrammetry and this expensive piece of kit
No textures? That’s a deal breaker.
Yeah it's not in the software yet. They talk about how they will have full color.
This device is a con btw. There's a reason there's been 0 videos about it this week. Everyone got their free kits. I suggest you all look at the models and see how most of the detail is not captured before you buy.
It's not a con and it do work well. You are right about it not picking up fine details on smaller objects but I showed that in the video. This is more for medium to larger objects.
I haven't had time to do anything thing with this scanner for videos to be honest and no one from the Kickstarter has got the scanner yet and everyone that already has one has already made videos about it so I can understand why there are no new videos about it.
This is a lie
What is a lie?
What kind of content aru you bored of? It has nothing to do with silver
What do you mean?
Going off of the ideas that the scanner does not pick up shiny stuff, spray the table with silver spray paint.
Good point.
There is something in the software that makes it so you can tell it that the table is going to be there and it'll scan it first and then automatically select that area to remove. I just didn't want to handle my parts too much because of the spray that's on it and how easy it was to come off.
Thats a terrible result, Ive seen far better with a mobile phone.
It's really bad.
I think it's disingenuous to "review" this scanner without mentioning how absolutely horrible the software is.
Did you watch the full video?
7:30 I talk about how the software has crashed on me multiple times. I also talked about how the auto alignment doesn't work a lot of the time unless you move the scan into the same orientation and even then it only works about 70% of the time. And that the software uses a lot of processing power on a computer and I do wish it had a mobile version but I don't think it could due to that.
He did mention its flaws.
@@GomeowCreations I can't even get it to make selections like you're doing at 8:00 - it draws them, but then they disappear before I can do a delete. I can't figure out how to MOVE the model, just rotate and zoom. Everything is enabled in the UI when it should only be enabled when the correct thing is selected. Moving the two models apart to do a manual align, nope, doesn't work. I've been a software developer for 25 years, and I can't remember the last time I saw software this bad. On the plus side, it never crashed on me. The Lizard scans fine, but the software sucks.
You have to hold down alt or control when you want to move stuff around or select areas to delete. To place markers you just have to click the add marker button or whatever it's actually called and then right click on the model where you want the marker. I did have to look through the instruction manual to find the controls because I had the same problem and I had no idea how to manipulate anything.
Videos like this are worthless without 3d printing the scans and showing us the pieces side-by-side
Just for there to be changes due to printing it as well? Fusion would give you the most precise comparison.
What a bulshit special cable again ? Boicottt
Came for the scanner, stayed for the D series Honda.
D16Z6 93 Del Sol Si 😁👍
@@GomeowCreations Yeah i recognised it! I used to have one in my EG.........a few engines ago
Is the Scan similar to the real size ? no scaling up or down ?
The scans come out the same size as the real item 😁👍
If I scan an object that is 4" x 4", does the 3D software read it as 4" x 4", or do I need to rescale it?
The software should scan things at scale so that shouldn't be a problem. When it comes to editing the file or using it in software like fusion 360 or blender then you need to make sure the scaling is set up right. There are full tutorials on how to do this with each program on UA-cam 😁👍
So paint the base with a "chrome" paint and your objects are sitting on an invisible turntable.
There is a step in the software to take care of that. I will just scan the bed and auto select it out of the scan.
Want a good 3D resin printer. What is your advice. Does lot minatures
What kind of budget are you looking to stay within and then I can give you suggestions based off that and your needs.
Are these for sale yet ?
Yes and no. They are running a Kickstarter for them. So you can order one now as an early bird and get it at a discount but you will not get it for a few months. There is the link so you can check it out bit.ly/CrScanLizard
