I'm hesitant to give too much away as this is a brilliant game and I don't want to ruin the experience for you. That said, put yourself in the mindset that this real, that you're actually stranded on Great Bear Island. Would you run through places and just take the obvious things or would you absolutely scour every inch of a place to find something you can use? The Devs of this game are extremely thorough and the game has a lot of depth.
Same here. It's so tempting to give all the advice you can! The two things I am willing to share is learn the maps (either by mapping or memory), and you will die.... alot! That's part of the trill! Best of luck to you sir!

In answer to your question @12:30 : I usually make a main 'base' but have many outposts in different regions. You'll find your favorite as you explore. For me it's always been the farmhouse in Pleasant Valley but there are quite a few to choose from. Another favorite is the Mountaineer's hut in Timberwolf mountain. But as I said, play, explore and discover and for sure you'll find your favorite place to 'settle down' .
PV is my personal choice as well. I usually do make a cache in just about every region though that has a bit of the basics. Sewing kit or fishing line, some cloth, some feathers and maybe a birch sapling or two. And water, lots of water.

Search everywhere in the buildings for resources. Some critical items are hidden under or behind furniture. You should have bases, several in fact. When making fires outside look for a sheltered spot- as little wind as possible - and always light a torch then use that to light a fire. Collect huge piles of little sticks near good shelters. Let fireplaces burn as long as you can and boil extra water and store it in shelters. Keep collecting and preparing necessary resources until you have enough for a few days in each shelter. Common sense actually mostly works in this game and I love it. (Also clothes, don't just blindly wear them in any empty slot, some clothes give better wind/cold/damage resistance when worn as an outer/inner layer, see what works best. )

A small tip though, a some things you're wondering about are in text on your screen displayed haha. But I guess that's partly due to you narrating everything. 😅

i got the game this year after knowing about it for a while and it quickly became one of my favorite games. I love survival mode and haven’t rlly done story mode.
I pick one building in an area for my main base. Pick one with a cooking stove. You can store everything in there until you move on. It's key to have shelter in case of a storm. Always have a couple tinder plugs and a few sticks in case you need to build an emergency fire. Take a couple torches from the fire and keep one in case you run into wolves. You can make lots of teas out of gathered items. Don't waste too much time breaking down items unless you have a back up since you can NOT repair tools.
You can repair the hatchet and hunting knife with a whetstone and hacksaw with scrap metal

I absolutely love this game! The best advice I can give you is search every inch , under beds and night stands especially. Also, there is no respawn so once you scour a town there is no more. Good to keep in mind wheb using your matches and bullets later on. The game is meant to kill you, the goal is to see how long you survive before it does!
And save the last bullet. Or go tease a bear to easy your passing.
I am really enjoying this so far. I like the idea of you being able to make this first house square base although I haven’t watched you play the whole thing. Very interesting game concept. I’m going to see if I can get this game myself.

Everywhere is your base. I like to collect everything and dump everything in piles and sort them when a blizzard is happening. You should try loot all containers as quickly as possible if you want all the loot as stuff turns to dust in them. A lot to learn 3000 hours and I'm still learning. They do keep adding stuff, though, also.
Man, I am glad, I found this video. I love this game. I have been following the development for mor than 10 years (it’s Kickstarter was in October 2013.) I know the game almost inside out. But watching someone, who doesn’t know much about it, feels fresh and exciting. Yesterday, I watched the first two episodes and it’s been great.

People probably answered this already, but your weight limit is in the upper left when you're in the inventory screen. Being over encumbered will drain your stamina and make you tired
You should definitely keep this going. I agree with the other guy it’s hard to not tell you stuff but it’s better for you to experience it on your own. But I will say even in survival mode there is some kinda story/lore to be found.

You desperately scrounge a meager excuse for an existence as long as you can until it inevitably "beats" you... And then you try again 😁
Played this because it was on game pass and ended up buying it although it's a small game compared to some others but it's truly amazing
This is my favorite game. You will find that moving around is better than hunkering down in one spot. That being said you can store items in each region in a favorite location for future forays into each map. BTW you need a bit of charcoal (from a burnt out fire) to make yourself a map. Enjoy the quiet apocalypse.

I am completely addicted to this game lol. I've been all over the map and am now in mountain town. Paradise Meadows is actually my home base. I've survived 134 days so far.
Anything you drop on the ground will stay forever. Food put in containers will disappear when condition reaches zero. You can eat ruined food at cooking lvl 5.

This game is a masterpiece. One of the most immersive games ever. Enjoy!
You make several bases as you go to different regions. I usually eventually in a survival run have a main base that I'll haul loot too, usually in a more central location such as Mystery Lake, Coastal Highway or Pleasant Valley.
Tips: Torches are your friend, keep you warm a bit, scare off wolves, use a torch to light a fire to save matches.
Do not ever leave your bedroll behind unless you are 100% sure that you can get to a bed or back to your bedroll quickly. Best just not to leave it behind.
Never go to sleep with wet cloths on - frostbite is a permanent health deduction. Put wet clothes on the ground (near fire) or on the floor to dry out.
If a wolf is following you at a distance, you can often just keep walking and after awhile the wolf will go back to it's area.
You can do some stuff in the dark such as harvesting animals, harvesting cloth from clothing, sharpen axe and knife, clean firearms.
With 15 sticks and 5 cloth you can craft a snow shelter - this can save your life lost in a blizzard.
Take charcoal from burnt out fires to use to survey areas - this is how you open up the map.
Loot EVERYTHING (I don't mean take everything) and look in corners, under beds - crouch to see better as need be.
Press H to put away whatever is in your hand.
Keep your clothing repaired, tools sharp and guns clean.
I suggest changing the following settings:
auto walk = ON default key is Z
click to interact (rather than hold to interact)
Too see what time of the day it is, press TAB and an icon will show in the top right.
Before going to sleep for a long time, make sure to fill up with water and have a decent amount of food in you (50%ish).
If you do not go hungry for 3 days straight, you get the Well Fed bonus which ups your carry weight.
I just love open world bases like the cabin in TM. I wish there was more of them. Or a build buildable cabin.

I don't think this game let's you do that but I am still pretty new
Books Are for you to read when you have a spare hour or two. To help you to survive in that environment. After reading you can use them for fire. Or if you have more of the same book.
on the bottom left the little arrows on your temperature go up and down , more up arrows means warm quicker, less means not warming as much etc.., I wish the devs would let ya break down the small wood furniture and crates by stomping them.. theres no way I would need a hatchet to smash those up if I needed them for fire... LOL, I never made a real "base" at any of the houses, I would spend a day or two and get all fixed up best as possible and explore the area then move on, I always wanted to see what was next

There are dangerous wild animals in Canada that I would NOT want to encounter without at least a fully automatic beltfed 20mm gun.
Luckly those wild animals cannot be encountered in this game.
I'm not even sure our military has those, lol. Also, that would be overkill even for a grizzly.
