You just helped someone, We had rain for solid two weeks and the 2014 VW jetta sportwagon I just purchased has 6 inches of water in the spare tire area, I just pulled one of the drains at the bottom of the spare tire area to get it all out and will be checking the sunroof drain lines in the morning, the first idea I had a problem was fogging on the inside of the windows, Thanks for the heads up on how to get to these.
We have a 2009 Jetta Station wagon TDI with panoramic sunroof that has a leak problem too. The car has spent most of its life in the garage when not in use, except for the last year. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for the Intel, this video helped me fix my water in the spare tire cavity issue on my 2011 JSW TDI, I have the same color and wheels as yours!!
This a well done vid, thank you! Tell me though, how the heck does one re-attache that black grommet/connector at the rear drain tube once it's off, clipped and cleaned??
It’s definitely a tricky task of using one hand to accomplish it. I think I reseated the black drain piece back in the hole of the body & then put the drain hose into the black piece. I may have used a small amount of dish soap or rubbing alcohol to fit the pieces together.
@@TeenageShutdown01 thanks again! That makes good, obvious sense. secure the grommet first to the body to support it. I've since watched clips of owners taking the wheel well splash guard/arch and clipping that star end from there. Def gonna apply silicon above though like you did. Cheers!
I suppose I could of removed the wheel & wheel liner to access the drain tips, but accessing it from the hatch was less effort for me. That, and I wanted to inspect the inside of the drain tube connector. I recall the one being partially fouled up. Good luck with your VW!
Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, I’ve asked the dealer many times to see if there’s any recall for the moon roof drains. They’ve addressed the moon roofs on newer VWs. I guess they’re still licking their wounds from the TDI scandal. Anyways, yeah I did the rear drains last year and replaced the majority of the rear line with high pressure marine hose and clamps. Unfortunately, the silicone will fail. I made the mistake not addressing all 4 drains and as such have to repair the fronts bc I got some water on the driver side. Thank you again.
Great info, currently my driver side front and rear carpets get wet after a rain. You said you used silicone when you attached the rubber hose to the white fitting. Did you also use silicone to reattach the white fitting to the sunroof drain? Can you please let me know what parts you needed to remove in order to pull down the headliner to access the rubber tubes? Thanks
Hey Doug, sorry for the late reply. I did not use silicone to reattach the white fittings to the sunroof drains, just the hoses that go into white fittings. As far as parts I had to remove-the front grab handles & the rear plastic trim piece that holds up the back of the head liner. I loosened (but not removed) all the pillar covers, & front grab handles. I’m happy to report there is still no leaks. Good luck!
I might try cutting the tips off before I remove my headliner to seal the drain connections My thinking is drains are intended to move water not hold it and if the water is moving that joint might no be leaking The string trimmer line is a great point as well I’ll have to try that on my DS front
It wasn’t easy, but with patience it can be done. You really have to reach in there! I may have used a little dish soap on the tip of the grommet to help seat it to the sheet metal. I hope this helps.
You’re a hero. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope the video helped you out.
Wow I’ve looked all over and you did all the hard work! :) I was going to just set my VW on fire until I watched your video. Thanks!!!
I hope all works out well for you! I understand your frustrations with this car all too well.
I'm having the same issue. Thanks for making the work easier to find .
I’m glad I am of help!

Oh yes, I would dread seeing moisture or frost on the inside of the windows.
Good luck with the car & thanks for replying.
Where does the front drain line exit the vehicle?

Thanks!
You are a legend! Saved me 500 bucks
That’s awesome! I’m glad the video helped you out!

No problem!

Thank you sir! I will do this when I get the chance
Good luck! I’m happy to report that I am still leak free.
Great video. Thanks

Thank you for the vid. My tube doesn't exit the cowl. The owner before me cut it flush and it got sucked up.
Thank you for watching!
Is there only one rear drain?
Nope. There are 2 rear drains, 1 per side.
I might try cutting the tips off before I remove my headliner to seal the drain connections

You’re welcome!
How did you get the black grommet to seat back in. I can’t get it back in for the life of me

@@TeenageShutdown01 got it! Thanks for your response and video!
