As of today (5-29) We have gotten MOST of the sensor issues figured out. It sounds like this isn't an uncommon issue for these planters. Thank you to our local dealer and service techs for the help!!! We are knocking out acres quickly now!
We have had downforce sensor issues on a lot of planters at our dealership that are 2 years old or younger. I think Deere actually had a Product Improvement Program (PIP kit) that involved putting on updated sensors. Once it’s all good you won’t find a better planter on the market!
Did you get more rain this morning?
I've asked a few times, never got a response (video or text) wonder where you stand on Right to Repair. Seems more pertinent than ever after these two videos. I get it.... dont want to bite the hand that feeds you... but...you know....

Glad to hear. Knee high by July seems doable now.

Watching the last video I was thinking the strip till rig last fall seemed a lot less troublesome.

Good to see you geting some corn planted. Hope you have a good planting and growing season
As someone who operates cranes for a living, I can 100% feel your aggravation when it comes to sensors and alarms blaring at you for no reason.
This makes me appreciate my John Deere 7000 planter a whole lot more.
The first 15 seconds explains everything.
I really think this was one of your best vids and well done to your wife for stringing all together. What a great partnership.
Props indeed to Becky!
Your patience is legendary. We love watching you. Keep it up. Things will get better.
Zach, I really envy how you get over and still make jokes and keep it funny with everything that happened to you lately. All the best to you and your family, take care and hope you have a good season even if the start is not looking promising.

As someone who works with deeres parts distribution network and handles thousands of deere parts weekly, I would never buy a deere product.
As a former mechanic turned electrical engineer a series of unrelated codes is usually bad ground connections.
Especially when it is all over the place. At this state I would also swap parts between the rows to rule them out.
After watching some UA-cam mechanic diag channels it's astounding how much chaos and weirdness can be caused by just a little bit of the "green crusties" on a ground wire.
Bad grounds, voltage drops to ground, or voltage drops due to bad connections. Lose the reference voltage and sensor data becomes junk.
As a mechanic for years, that is usually correct!
Need a few cans of CorrosionX and clean up the grounds and keep them treated
I am also a farmer and the last two videos have brought me a lot of laughter as I know the struggles.

John Deere's saving grace is their service technicians. Guys like ZK MasterTech and the one we saw today Ron and many more make owning a John Deere worthwhile. Because without them, there would be some really angry farmers! Hell, even with them there are angry farmers, they just calm down quicker
Too bad they are so anti-right-to-repair. Then folks could plug into their own equipment and fix it themselves.
It just delays the anger, now you don't get angry until the bill for the site visit shows up.
@@jmacd8817 I couldn't agree more I like John Deere but why can't we fix our own tractors and equipment?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Funny how OLF was just saying he would like a central filling bin like you run for seed so he wouldn’t have the issue of running out of seed irregularly between boxes based on the size of the seed. Then you point out the issue hasn’t gone away just moved. Maybe with all the technology you have you need a sensor that detects the seed left and transfers seed from the hopper with to the hopper without. Wishing you and your family the best. If you haven’t watched lately he’s been optimizing the 50yr old planter he’s running with further plans for next year.
The mid 2000s CCS planters had very few issues. The problems came when they went to all the electronic and pneumatic controls. The high speed option is nice, but adds a whole new layer of complexity as well. I'd like to see a side by side yield comparison of a bare bones 2008 planter planting at 6.5 mph vs a high speed with all the options planting at 9mph. My guess I'd that it would be barely noticeable.
An old 7000 like OLF or Duffy has will do a good job as well, you just have to maintain the meters and slow down to 5 mph or less. Finger pickups don't like speed.
We have been stepping away from green for the last few years. Red has really stepped up in every way and at least in our area our green dealers are truly awful, meaning support, parts, and business practices, even down to the way they treat their own employees. It's been disgusting watching and being caught up in the local green downward spiral. 20 years ago would have never even thought about a different brand. And yes I know they all have problems but how a company deals with its problems and customers defines a business...
All the JD dealerships and service centers were recently over last 2 years bought out by Pape Machine. They are working hard to fix the employee turnover issues, training so repair and maintenance done right and once again treating customers right. Washington Tractor caused a lot of people go elsewhere for orange red and blue in my area. I had to have a new clutch put in my tractor over the winter, took a chance with Pape and the shop / mechanic it went to did a great job on it but I did specify I wanted a very experienced JD cert. mechanic to work on it and they complied with my request.
All the colors have had good and bad. The problem is people feel loyal to a color for no other reason than validation of their choices. Companies have become too comfortable knowing they have customers who would rather not farm than have the wrong colors piece of equipment on their farm and have taken advantage of it and is one reason some farmers can't barely afford to pay the bills.
We have been moving away from green also red seems to be cheaper to run
@@Thebigtipper101 in our area especially service calls are quite a bit cheaper with red, we live 45 mins from store and to get green there is $1000 just to get them to the field! And that's when they can actually send someone because all their techs have quit and gone to other colors or started there own repair businesses.(Maybe the $1000 dollar mileage is normal now I guess i really dont know outside of here.) To throw some dirt at red so I don't sound like a fan boy they seem inconsistent charging $400-600 for mileage, haven't figured that bit out yet... Both dealerships are in same town literally across the road from each other.
Woth all the crazy shit you've been through so far this year you sure do honestly seem to keep a pretty good composure in my opinion. I guess getting bent out of shape and biting people's heads off doesn't solve anything because after a hissy fit the problems are still there. I'm glad to see things possibly going ok now. There's these things called springs that can also apply downforce. Might be the next big thing!!
Hard to sell a support contract and six different proprietary "consumable" sensors on a spring.
Although I don't necessarily disagree, I've seen the accuracy that the hydraulic downforce provides when it's working well, especially at higher speeds. But yes, mechanical is often times much simpler and just as effective!!
@@MillennialFarmer Hard to imagine it makes a difference, but I'll take your word!
@@ryecarlson7867 Even a few percent better adds up, and it's especially better when soil type and consistency varies across a field. If you could plant into the proverbial "Spherical Cow" of a field then springs would be just fine. The hydraulic downforce shines when "the slopes are sandy and the bottoms are clay and the south side of hills are powdery but the north sides are sticky" type of fields.
My dad has told me like 10,000 times that this is why he likes the old days--things operated by mechanical means, rather than computers and sensors...so frustrating--sorry to see Zach, with the damage and being a dad...so much stress!
As a 23 year old, that’s operated and used both mechanical and computer operated equipment, extensively.
I often wonder why in the Sam hell they ever got away from the mechanical ways.
Yes, in theory, computer operation is faster and more efficient, but, especially now, if a sensor or monitor or whatever gets jacked up, the chances of them having them/it in stock is slim to none, and the chances of it actually working are the same.
The downtime and cost just doesn’t make it worth it to me. Although GPS and auto steer are nice conveniences.

Can you show me how to plant corn with an air seeder
@@thomasbritten7216 was thinking the same thing 😂😂
If you're going for Silage there are options for air seeders, but for most cases you want a planter because of the row spacing, if they planted a LOT MORE beans then an air seeder would be handy. But in most cases Corn and air seeders don't work well plus you can plant beans with a planter as well
@@thomasbritten7216 You can do it, but the population variance murders yield. If they were planting for silage you can KINDA get away with it, but not for commercial corn.

I wonder if the shock of the building falling on it, might have broken some solder joints.... causing intermittent faults?
Maybe? Although if they broke from the building falling they probably were gonna fail just from the vibrations of use.
Edit:
That's is a good thought though.
Yep definitely frustrating dealling with all that tech but better than planting a whole field to relize something was not working and not a seed was planted Take care praying the rain holds off.

We run a red planter on a green tractor. All u need is power, ground, a hydraulic coupler, a gps harness and a pro 700 monitor. Sure like the job it does and how it's built
There is definitely a company that could help you with that. Plust, there is a loot of choice to replace that planter with a similar one.
Maybe it’s time to just trade out the planter and keep the tractors
A new quad track could pull that at 10+MPH
Planters used to be the only good thing the green guys made.
They still are, it’s when you put all those extra options on like active down force & closing wheel pressure, electric shut offs on every row so they auto magically shut off when they sense an area of the field has been planted, and etc that needs numerous sensors is when gremlins show up. You can still order a simple planter that is mechanically or hydraulically driven that you do not have to deal with a bunch of sensors.
