    How do you tongue so smoothly? I've only been playing a year but sometimes when I tongue I create an airy sound and you can hear my tongue.. of that makes any sense... ut you're such a great flute player and I'm inspired to keep playing because of you!! Thanks for you're awesome videos!!

      Hi! The tongue is a muscle and needs to be exercised everyday. You also need to slowly increase the length of time you are practicing tonguing exercises. You can start out with playing your scales and tonguing them in different patterns such as the Bb scale repeating each scale degree four times before going on the next scale degree. You can start out tonguing using quarter notes and eventually work up to sixteenth notes. My UA-cam videos on tonguing go very in-depth on this topic. Good Luck! David

    How do you plab Ab on third octive???like the finguring

    • @DrDavidandJudiKlee
      @DrDavidandJudiKlee  9 років тому

      The fingering used for Ab 3 is left hand 2, 3, and 4 (Ab key)- and the Eb key in the right hand. No thumb key is used in the 3rd octave. David

    Hello Dr.David,
    Can I use these alternate fingerings as a "standard" and completely erase the traditional fingering methods of these notes?For, for example, the 3rd octave High D?

    • @DrDavidandJudiKlee
      @DrDavidandJudiKlee  7 років тому +1

      Hi!! When I use "alternate" fingerings I am after two purposes. The 1st is
      ease executing the two notes successively. The 2nd is pitch. For me all
      that matters is the result. If the alternate fingerings help your playing then go for it. David

    Great tutorial! Do you have any advice to get a beautiful sound in flute, like a smooth, clear tone? :)

      ***** Hi! You need to do plenty of tone studies and scale and arpeggio work that encompasses from 2 to 4 measures in one breath. There is a good book on developing your tone by Trevor Wye called: Practice Book for the Flute, vol. 1-Tone. A good scale book by Martha Rearick called Fabric of Flute Playing. David

      I'll check them out! Thanks so much, would flute lessons over the summer also work?

      ***** Hi again!! I teach lessons year round if you'd like to take lessons with me. I can provide lessons on Skype if needed. If you want face-to-face lessons, I live in Iowa and teach lessons in Fort Dodge, Storm Lake, and Sac City. David

      I live all the way in Ohio, haha. I'm not sure about the Skype thing (I don't have one), I'll need to ask my mom. But you seem like an excellent flute teacher!

    I'm going to have to wait to see what you actually do, instead of looking at the sheet music you are being hidden by.
