No ladders were harmed in the making of this video. 😮
Happy holidays from the UK. 🥂🍻🥳
The ladders are safe for now
Its always a sigh of relief once you have tensioned the garage door spring.
The barn thingy sure looks good.
Thanks
I never messed with those garage doors but was curious about how they work. Had a repair guy say if you don't understand it don't fool with the tension springs because you can get hurt.
I think this is awesome Matt has his garage door now 😀 Awesome progress!
Good evening from snowy Finland. Good work as usual
Thanks
Christmas has come early I see! This is what I was waiting for. Merry Christmas to all and good night. It's 3am.
Great work as usual Donavan..
Thanks
fantastic work as always Donavan.
Thank you! Cheers!
Funny how once you start filling the space it don’t quiet look as big as it use to😹😹😹😹
Should have ordered a door that went straight up as high possible before turning to leave more overhead room.
We couldn’t because of the braces
Great. Have missed you guys and the barn build....rr Normandy, Fra.
Surprised that a high lift track was not attempted to allow for more high rack storage access.
Most dangerous part of the job. Nicely done sir!
Thanks
A few years ago, the spring on our garage door broke when I hit the opener button. I truly thought a bomb had gone off.
There’s a lot of built-up energy in those Springs
Good morning from Siesta Key Florida
Nice door and job installing it.
I'm guessing it's going to need a seriously big motor on the electric opener and large emergency rope to open it if fails or a power failure.
I certainly wouldn't want to have to open if manually.
That sucker if huge.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family Donovan.
Once it’s finally balanced it’ll be able to go up and down my hand easily
YEAH !!! I thought that was Matt at the beginning of the video.....lol
Great to see you and Matt back on the barn project!
Yea its dried in !
An under-tension spring broke on one of these overhead doors with a huge bang. It sometimes happens. it was loud enough almost It was loud. Nice work and well done and now, whenever I pass under these doors I walk gently from fond memories.
They can be very scary
@@donavanshomes at the warehouse, ours go up and stay against the wall with a kink to clear the torsion springs. A spring broke one day, while it was up, but was still held by the opener. closing up the place for end of day, the opener was over loaded and would not operate. This is often a problem (not opening or closing for various reasons) so I grabbed the clutch chain . . . BANG! the door slammed shut. scared me a bit, but it did notify Maintenance that they had a door to fix the next day as they had just moved offices into our building, and everyone of them there came and asked "WTF was that?"
@@jpkalishek4586 they can be very dangerous sometimes
Nice work maybe you can built me shop someday
Anything is possible
Thanks! Happy holidays! 🌞🎅🏻🎄🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy holidays!
Really interesting job. Huge
good job guys..
Progress, insulated garage door for the shop.
Merry Christmas Donavan 🎄⛄🦌🎄
Thanks
It's just trim after this...
👋
Why did you choose a gambrel roof? Seems those trusses would cost more than a regular roof but for what benefit?
That is what they wanted
Eeek Donovan, rebar for your spring tensioning??
Yup
was that matt at end of video doing WOP dance challenge? didn't know he had it in him
Yup
*Wouldn't a roll-a-door have taken up less space overall. especially if he ends up putting a guest room up top. But I guess this is what Matt wanted... and Matt is your client/friend.*
A roll up door that large is more likely to get damaged from wind. And if you damage a regular door, you just replace the one panel instaed of the whole door
@@nooneyouknowhere6148 *aha... fair enough too.. I can now see the reason.*
His rafters are not strong enough to support for a living space. Matt said in a building video, that in order to make a storage/office space above, he'd had to install 2X the number of rafters for proper support for the floor.
Also... A roll up door wouldn't be insulted like this one is.
Yes, insulation is the primary reason this door was used. I had an unheated garage and no insulation did just fine to take the chill off.
Door does not appear to be wind rated. Also when winding, watch out using rebar, you should use hardened steel bars from the manufacturer. Nice door though.
Why do the bars have to be hardened? Why is rebar not acceptable?
@@goldenhazeduster Rebar can bend. The rebar can potentially slip out of the winding cone causing damage or serious injury.
@@paulgoplen5929 any metal bar can be bent. You are not going to be able to apply enough force on that short piece of rebar to come close to having a problem. I agree that you want the rod to fit snuggly into the socket so it doesn't slip out but a hardened rod is overkill. I used hot rolled bar on mine and it worked wonderfully. Hot rolled bar has as lower a yield strength than any other steel, including rebar.
The door does meet wind rating for our location
Who manufactured the door?
Crawford door
CHI is the mfg, Crawford is the seller.
@@jasoncanmore5838 I thought they looked familiar. I put CHI doors on my shop and I am not at all happy with them. The bottom edge of my doors is very tender and has been dented because they were shut on top of an extension cord. I hope Matt has better luck with these.
curious are you using a jack shaft opener?
Probably when it comes time to do that
