You honestly have the best shooting setup. Your videos are always well lid up and it is just relaxing to watch your videos. We appreciate what you do
+xfifx1 Thanks. My lighting depends on the weather and the sun. 😂
best light is sunlight!!!
I watch this every night before i sleep, so relaxing
+Roblong No wonder the view count is rising 😂
there are videos specially made with certain sounds called asmr
Its 3am right now
Lol I'm about to sleep and I'm watching this
Shit, now I have to have this...
Love the expressive touch.
Almost like an Asian calligraphy brush, but in a tight manageable package.
By the way, 仁者愛人is derived from a much longer passage from an ancient Chinese textbook.
"仁者愛人 有禮者敬人 愛人者 人恒愛之 敬人者 人恒敬之" is found in the teachings of a sage philosopher by the name of Mencius(孟子, BC 372 ~ BC 289), not Confucius(孔子, BC 551 ~BC 479). Finding a pen that bears the name "Confucius" with a glaring misquote is very disappointing. That's like quoting Aristotle and slapping Socrates' name on it.
PS, for those who are wondering, the passage is translated roughly like this:
"Gentle people love others, polite people respect others. Those who love others are loved back in return, and those who respect others are respected in return."
When learned Westerners hear "sour grapes", they know that it is from Aesop's fable about a fox. Same thing. When educated Asians see 仁者愛人, they know it implies the ancient yet timeless, loving philosophy of Mencius.
I appreciate this comment is 3 years old now. Im learning to write Chinese and would like to use a fountain pen. Would you suggest using this pen?
There is a high frequency sound in the backround all the time
I knoe right i got new headphones and i hear it very clearly
LǪɌƊ BĄƝĄƝĄ ⱢĘƝƝƳ 9000
Enjoy it until you break it.
ARE YOU A DOG?
I was just watching on my phone with no earphones or anything. I just thought my ears were ringing. Glad to know it was video
The box has been re-purposed to store blunt wraps b. Too bad.
Love the way you explain it. Also your drawings amaze me, such ease...
1:18 the Chinese words are said "ren zhe ai ren" which sort of means one who is kindhearted/humane loves other people.
edit: I had a typo..
Thank you so much, can you type them too? Like the characters as they are written in Chinese? I cannot find two of them.
@@nefeskar "仁者愛人"
@@americnsk8r Thank you so much man, much appreciated. Those two don't look like the way you typed them though, no wonder I couldn't find them. Apparently Chinese alphabet changes a lot depends on where it's written, just like Arabic...
Best pen ...I guess...very bold and artistic...expressive 👌
Nice video explanation about the pen and demonstration. I love to see how you draw your figures. It would be fun to try out a pen like this. Thanks!
+Judith Meyer Thanks. Maybe I'll create a video in the future on how I draw human figures with this pen.
Good. I want to get a pen like that. maybe Amazon?
+Judith Meyer You can buy it on eBay or Amazon www.amazon.com/Duke-Compound-Art-Fountain-Pen/dp/B007E04O1A/?tag=ttmus-20
Really appreciate your demonstrations.
mine just arrived in the mail. i inked it up and it is AMAZING! Thank you Teoh.
This pen is THICC

Hi, Teoh. Thanks for your videos. Well, I am in love with this Duke 551. But the ones that I found on E-Bay looks a bit different from yours. I am talking about the nib. The ones I found seem not to have the extra top, the device that, as you say, gives us that extra ink flow... Is it an old model, the one you have? Where can I find it? I saw ones for sale and the sellers reffers to them as "medium to broad nib". When looking at images of the pens, they seem not to have that extra device you mentioned... Can you help me finding this one? Thanks a lot!
I know this is an older review, but because of it I just ordered and received a Duke fountain pen. Not the one reviewed but another one. I like it. I like it a lot. And it was all because of your review. Thank you.
thank you for the review
I just bought it today but it doesn't work, I washed it but the ink barely go through and I don't know why. Any suggestions?
I like the expressive marks, but it is rather heavy. Which other pen would you recommend?
I have never heard of fude nibs before, super cool. Thanks for sharing :)
as always great review. Thank you
Thank you :-)
Hi, thanks for tour great reviews, I bought It and It was great but thé following day was skipping... I got another one and It IS skipping from The first day, what Sort of ink I could. Use?I am nit sure if they are damaged, thanks !
The ink flow isn't that good because it uses too much ink that the flow can provide.
Best inks are those that are thinner, such as fountain pen inks (but usually not archival and not meant for illustration).
You can try Noodlers Bullet Proof Black which is waterproof only on certain types of paper. Another ink to try is Rotring Ink
Hello teoh
are the fude nib recommanded for l'est handed
Thx for your answer
I'm glad you gave a link for Amazon -- there are several of ythese on amazon but most do not have the right tip! A Patreon supporter, Kate Powell
+MPFConservation Thanks for your support! :-)
May i ask why is there a very high frequency in the background
I've several comments on that but I still can't hear it myself. That's weird.
Teoh Yi Chie Use headphones
hi.. apart from rotring technical pens and pentel brus, which other pens can be used with Rotring ink?? is any fountain pen with line width variations can be used with rotring ink?
+vishnu ram I think it is best to try Rotring pen with cheaper pens first before you use on expensive pens. Noodlers Bulletproof Black ink is recommended.
I could save up for this or a pilot namiki. I decided and ended up buying a jinhao
lol
Question! How is the quality control on this pen? I've heard some bad things about Jinhao pens not lasting longterm... Does this Duke pen feel like it will last? You tested it as a dip pen -- I know the converter is small, but does it at least function correctly? Thanks!!!
+Junkyard Sam I find that I have to manually push the ink out from convertor often. It's like clogged or something, or just does not supply enough ink to the big nib. That's why I prefer to use this pen as a dip pen.
Thanks for this info. I assume you've thoroughly flushed the pen & converter first? You could also try adding a bit of soap to the ink (a very tiny amount increases the flow.) My Pilot Falcons and Custom 91 were all stingy with flow using Noodlers inks when I got them and the soap trick got them working without issue.
To be specific - I created a 150:1 distilledwater to Dawn dish soap solution. I add 1 drop per 0.5ml to start, directly into the converter. This usually improves flow without causing feathering. I use another drop if it's not enough.
It's worth a try!
+Junkyard Sam Thanks. Usually if the convertor is too much of a problem, I usually use the pen as a dip pen. I think this problem is only more so with this particular pen that I have because it needs a lot of ink to supply the nib.
Does it take time to break in or do you need to flush it? I just got the pen and the ink flow doesn't seem very good.
+Scottie Soft The ink flow is not very good. You have to draw slower
Hey Teoh! Your review of this pen made me really want to try it. I'm living in Taiwan, and I prefer to buy things from brick and mortar stores when I can, so I've been searching and searching for it.
I still haven't found it, but today I found a Duke pen with the exact same nib and a "normal" pen body! It was $850 NTD (~28 USD?) at a store, so there's probably a markup.
The pen is called Duke 116, the nib even has the same Chinese lettering on the "bridge" above the nib, and it's got the three tines. I'm really satisfied with the variation the pen is capable of, and it feels responsive to pressure where as the (cheaper) Sailor Fude nibs don't really seem to be. So far, it's my favorite fountain pen!
Recently I also bought one of these pens, indeed for $28 (incl. shipping) on Alibaba. It arrived a few days ago.
The pen is indeed built like a tank (or a cruise missile perhaps). However the weight is mostly in the cap and barrel, the writing part (nib/feed/section/converter) is pretty lightweigth and it should be easy to find a plastic barrel from another pen which fits, if weight is a problem.
I still have to get used to the fude nib. Apart from the extreme variety in line width, I find it a bit sharp. The nib doesn't have a rounded tip like my other fountain pens do. In that respect is resembles more like a conventional dip pen. It also makes a scratching noise on the paper, which my Lamy's and Parkers don't.
Buenas noches. Tengo una y es excelente. Buen video. Saludos desde Medellín, Colombia
Gah! that high pitched sound is really annoying
THIS!
To clarify for those who cannot hear it, there is a pitch playing at what sounds like 15-16 khz throughout the entire video. Almost as if a really big tube TV is on.
you hear it too?
I don't hear anything? Wtf?
@@PiercingSight why don't I hear it though? I have good hearing. I can hear till over 20khz so I should be able to hear it
Here's a spectrogram of the sound in the video. The red line across the top in the 15-16khz range is the high pitched noise throughout the video: imgur.com/a/uK05kio
Ciao, I bought a duke 551 pen with a bent nib, but I can't get it to write; only if I put some pressure on the nib can it draw some lines, but I don't think this is the correct way of working. Do you have any suggestions for making it work? Thank you
Make sure the pen is properly loaded with ink first. Install the ink converter, submerged the nib in ink then pull the ink into the ink convertor. This pen's ink flow isn't that good so you have to write slower.
Other than there, there's really no special way to use this. You just write as normal, and if you need broader strokes, have the broader side on paper.
@@teohyc Thanks.
Hi there! I am a newbie. Would you recommend this for writing letters?
+Mushamir Mustafa It's for writing Asian characters. I guess if you want to create typography art, this pen can do it.
Do you think you could convert this to an eye dropper pen to get a larger ink capacity?
Not sure about that. You pruobably can if you find some big rubber ring to stop the ink from coming out from the body.
Teoh Yi Chie thanks. I’ll give it a try.
Is the tiny spring inside the converter necessary? I took mine out and I don't know if I need it
+RedWhiteNBlade It just helps to move ink around inside small spaces. No harm leaving it there or taking it out. I would keep it inside though.
Teoh Yi Chie oh I see, its for breaking surface tension, thank you
Nice Pen. Nice Review!
Nice review : )
Your drawing is really cute and simple.
I'm ordering thisss
Cool. Have fun using it
Fountain pen ink only?
I expect someone already told you what the writing says, so won't bore you. But I laughed when you called him "the guy"; that dude Confucius -- I imagine one day someone will call him Johnny (仲尼)LOL
Oh, and great videos, as ever - shiok!
oh those open shutters! 😁
I do have this pen and I never find it useful till I saw your video
Where do you buy art materials in singapore?
ArtFriend, Straits Commercial, Overjoyed
Awww you didn't do the close up thing
I wonder if its good for Japanese calligraphy
+Teoh Yi Chie oh nice, ty
I'm not wrong in saying that most fude nibs aren't music nibs, right?
They are not.
@@teohycInteresting that this nib seems to be a bit of both. Thank you!
Where do you get your pens?
Sometimes on Amazon, sometimes eBay.
Hey sir, are you from Singapore?
yesh
I thought it broke when i looked at the thumbnail
這種尖不是要用來寫中文@@?
我也不清楚,可能寫大一點可以
What was missing was writing in Chinese letters (or, words, if I may say so), which would have been quite interesting to watch.
Good Polish fountain pen
नमस्कार केला आणि तो ही एक रतिअभिनेत्री आहे
मी पण हेच खरे आहे
Please pen price
Check eBay
it is a fountain pen, why are you using it dipping in the ink while you draw?
Ink flow isn't that good
I have one, it flows perfectly, maybe you need to adjust the nib
This is a novelty... looks good but does not have much use for me...it is expensive as well....
Whats in the box!?
It's just a holder for the pen.
Se7en reference...
Good
My scant Chinese is terrible, but I believe "Ren zhe ai ren" means "Being humane entails loving human beings."
Kaydian Georgia Lindo sign Duke 551
Omg I thought it was broken when I saw the thumbnail XD
