A Rhodes Scholar, a father, a husband, a doctor, an athlete and now author…Myron Rolle joins The Pivot to talk about his book The 2% Way and his philosophy of how small improvements took him from Oxford to the NFL to Neurosurgery. Ahead of the book's release- Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with Myron and pick his brain on his unprecedented journey.
The guys talk about how rare it is to be successful at two demanding, high profile professions in medicine and professional sports, which also seem complete opposites- one is a sport for entertainment and the other is life and death. Although from the outside it seems very different, Myron explains how similar the two careers really are in philosophy, approach and mindset. Balancing both athletics and academics allowed for a seamless transition from one career to the other and is something he shares with young mentees today .
Ryan had the chance to play with Myron in the league and embraced the opportunity of soaking up some of the knowledge he shared along the way as well as the immense respect for his medical work and sacrifice during the pandemic.
Referring to him as the smartest player to ever play in the NFL, Channing asks Myron how he could know so much about the brain and consequences of playing football yet still desire to play such a tough sport which opens up the conversation on CTE and the work Myron has done through research and partnering with the NFL.
Fred acknowledges the positives and a lot of the success stories surgeons have but the guys get into a tougher conversation on how some of the losses are handled and the pressures of working at highly touted hospitals and institutes such as Mass General and Harvard. Closing out the conversation, Ryan turns it over to Myron to share his message to young people and how it's never too late to choose a different path in life and the value of hard work. The 2% Way is available starting May 17th in all major bookstores and digital platforms.

His insistence that he kept within himself to achieve what he has is a testament to what staying the course will do for you, despite the unpopularity and so-called stigma of it! Dr. Carson's rise from poverty and determination to be the first to successfully perform a separation of conjoined twins AND the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a baby still in the womb is MUCH more significant than any political headlines. The man was the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center at the age of 33 in 1984! It's absolutely astounding what he accomplished, especially coming from an environment that would normally stunt growth, dreams, and aspirations of so many. It's no wonder he's such an inspiration for Dr. Rolle's success!

He’s an such inspirational human. I remember juat hearing small snippets about him from time to time about how he was pursuing his education. I’ve been rooting for him ever since. To see him finally achieve his goal and become one of the best neurosurgeons in the world is so cool.
To actually hear him speak in this interview and hear how down to Earth he is as a person is just awesome. He came off as very genuine, authentic and humble. A great man indeed!
    10/10 interview!!!

If there is any conversation I show my sons in 10-12 years, it is this one. I played football. There were many things I've wanted to do that have not come to fruition--both by ignorant and known choice. At a point in my life where the itch is back and I've got to strategize. It would be awesome if my kids did not take the same path and from this, know that they can do many things at once. There is no ONE path. I remember watching that Maryland game on TV and knowing who Myron Rolle is. Thank you for reminding me of that inspiration and continuing your passion. This such a great conversation.

Dr. Myron Rolle, shows by his life choices, that with hard work and dedication, you can pivot, and anything is possible. Chan, Fred and RC, keep pushing forward, because your platform will transcend sports. Bravo!!!!!!

This show is so amazing... timing and order always on point. Just had Charles Barkley explaining how the representation of success for our community mainly being athletes, when we have so many other pioneers. Rolle, in my humble opinion will be included in the list of men my young boys will honor.

I followed Myron Rolle story for a while. Channing was spot on with his questions. My dream was to play in the NFL. I wish I pursued it harder. I ended up going to military to be able to support myself. I only join the military because I knew I didn't want to go to jail. But my only goal in life was to go to the NFL. I'm glad they had Rolles on here to show people you can play sports and still pursue being whatever you want to do in life. I will be getting his book.
