A Rhodes Scholar, a father, a husband, a doctor, an athlete and now author…Myron Rolle joins The Pivot to talk about his book The 2% Way and his philosophy of how small improvements took him from Oxford to the NFL to Neurosurgery. Ahead of the book's release- Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with Myron and pick his brain on his unprecedented journey.
The guys talk about how rare it is to be successful at two demanding, high profile professions in medicine and professional sports, which also seem complete opposites- one is a sport for entertainment and the other is life and death. Although from the outside it seems very different, Myron explains how similar the two careers really are in philosophy, approach and mindset. Balancing both athletics and academics allowed for a seamless transition from one career to the other and is something he shares with young mentees today .
Ryan had the chance to play with Myron in the league and embraced the opportunity of soaking up some of the knowledge he shared along the way as well as the immense respect for his medical work and sacrifice during the pandemic.
Referring to him as the smartest player to ever play in the NFL, Channing asks Myron how he could know so much about the brain and consequences of playing football yet still desire to play such a tough sport which opens up the conversation on CTE and the work Myron has done through research and partnering with the NFL.
Fred acknowledges the positives and a lot of the success stories surgeons have but the guys get into a tougher conversation on how some of the losses are handled and the pressures of working at highly touted hospitals and institutes such as Mass General and Harvard. Closing out the conversation, Ryan turns it over to Myron to share his message to young people and how it's never too late to choose a different path in life and the value of hard work. The 2% Way is available starting May 17th in all major bookstores and digital platforms.

Lls.. This deserves more likes
Exactly💯
Same here. Very informative and important show. Keep going Pivot
Have to grab the dictionary when listening to this brother
We need more people in our community like him. Don’t all have to be a doctors, just disciplined.
AMEN BROTHER!
We have plenty of people in our community like him. Let's not keep perpetuating the fact that he is an anomaly from our community. If you know more people that are not dedicated then you need to change the people you know. I am sure all of the black people he knows are dedicated and successful.
@@mresmith4302 No one said he was an anomaly and I’m not perpetuating anything. I only said we need more like him. We need more professionals of all types, doctors, dentist, nurses, teachers, etc. I have family throughout this country and there are definitely shortages, especially in rural areas. Also, there are very few black neurologist. He is one of the very few so definitely someone we want to learn more about.
@@mresmith4302 Dr. Rolle is just an impressive human. Every interview I've seen is tremendously engaging and inspirational. Young people from any and all backgrounds need to hear more from leaders like Dr. Rolle.
@@mresmith4302 Nigga what. He is an anomaly. Dude was a 5 star football recruit and smart enough to be a nuerosurgeon.
Myron Rolle is one of the ultimate examples of “The Pivot” - one of my favorite episodes. Keep building the platform fellas!
Well said King
WallStreet Trapper, Lavarr Ball, P, Dr Claude Anderson, Mike Rashid….
Make it happen RC…
LETS SUPPORT THIS BROTHER! Everyone cop his book on Tuesday or hit the pre-sale up!!
I'ma buy it and im a white trump supporter. This dude is what the black community needs
@@anthonygaertner2396 that’s awesome brother! Welcome to the pivot gang!! He is what any community needs to feel motivated. Media shows criminals but most of the black race wants to do better like this gentleman.
@@whodat5492 I love that man. I hope you have a great weekend my fellow brother. His book, from amazon, gets here in 2 days. Going to drink some bud light and read it lolol
I’m definitely buying his book NOLEBLOODED
@@anthonygaertner2396 the undertones 😂😂
Charles Barkley smiling right now with this one. Showing minorities they can be more than just athletes. Killed it again fellas!
Barkley is right sometimes when he’s not cooning for the man
Minorities?
That means minor. How are they a minority in the space they operate in? Grow up.
Be educated make good money all the other stuff is extra be well
😅🤣 Charles Barkley would be nothing without athletics though🤔 Now he's just an opinionated 🦝
Man when Channing is serious he asks some GREAT questions
That’s what makes him great. He can do both!
He's a GREAT interviewer but he loves going LEFT all the time 😊
This just might be the best podcast, even outside of sports... These dudes are tackling subject matters I didn't even know I wanted. I'm both enlightened and entertained after every episode.
🗣
Facts!!
Seriously tho🔥🔥
On God
This is without a doubt the best podcast out there
As a FSU fan, my proudest moment as a fan was when he became a Rhodes Scholar. Championships were great, but his success was most important to me. FSU Fan for life!
I remember the Maryland game when he came from the Rhoads scholar interview and how proud coach Bowden was of him
Every week I think to myself, “This is the best episode” , but they just keep better and better.
RC, Channing, and Fred…WE THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
Facts
Man this podcast is really incredible. They do the research, they get the great guests, they ask great questions. Props you guys. I have a feeling this is only the beginning. This is the podcast/show I reference along with Joe Rogan’s as how it should be, and the dynamics. 👏🏻
I met this young man when he was about 13 or 14 and we had a conversation and he broke down his future and he wasn't wrong on what he said real good kid
Side story I was an assistant on PAL basketball team he played for an we lost championship because he has heat stroke from football practice and couldn't play but he tried but the head coach wasn't trying to see his mom 😂😂
A true black king 👑 I’m buying his book. I’m 29 and deep in the culture but forget artists we need to let our kids look up to people like Dr. Rolle!! 👏🏾 this type of greatness stirs my spirits
💯💯💯
I agree
Wtfff Channing stepped up his game, he asked really good questions the whole episode! Good stuff Channing!👏🏾🔥🔥🔥
Tell me why I be like a kid on Christmas waiting to open his gifts waiting to see who your next guest gonna be. Keep bringing the 🔥 fellas.💯🤞🏽

Bro you ain’t never Lied 💯🙏

Yes always
FACTS
Channing really shined in this interview. The ability to navigate this conversation with a person as remarkable as Myron and asking the right questions at the perfect moment was special to witness. Great job, boys.
Rolle was a BEAST . He chose education over football amd they made him pay for that. This man was a DOG... they flew him in at halftime during a FSU game to play the second half. Hell yeah
This is what I love, this is what I want the younger kids to see, you can be an athlete and you can be smart and be whatever else you want to be. Let them know that after football have another plan. This is what needs to be shown.
The way that your message for the student-athlete will be realized is when YOU begin to share it. And never stop sharing your message, because it is one that needs to be deeply engrained in the minds of our children.
Keep up the great work.
One love family.
Absolutely!
@@charlesjones1588 agreed!!!
Dr. Rolle just gave me permission to embrace the sadness that comes with working with abused children. I was just having a conversation with a colleague who told me that she was desensitized from seeing abused kids and I told her after 20 years of doing this work. I wish I could, too. Dr. Rolle’s statement just allowed me to be ok with using those feeling to continue to do the work.🙌🏾
God be with you, your colleagues and the precious children whom you counsel.
Thank you!
That’s a BAAADDDDDD DUDE! Barkley talked about helping the children to see further…. This man is proof
As a kid from Mattapan wanting to be an anesthesiologist, hearing him speak as a practitioner and God is just inspirational. Besides Ben Carson (gifted hands) he's my role model
Men whose story inspires us all to remember just how much 2% of effort (consistently given) can and will eventually make a positive difference.
Channing was on point with his questions today!
Understanding the gifts God gave you is so important. This man is maximizing all the gifts he was given. His story is so important for anyone out there like him that has the ability to be great in different fields. Great job fellas!! Keep inspiring the world Mr. Rolle!! See yall next week.
this world be a great movie....especially how the NFL messed over him
Amen
They didn't emphasize it too much but Dr. Rolle was the #1 high school recruit in the nation. He was real big time. Remember reading about Oklahoma offering him as an underclassmen. Was beyond excited when he committed to the schoolhouse. Great man well beyond the player he was on the field. True inspiration!
I am a Neurosurgical Operating Room RN and have blessed to have met Ben Carson a couple of times. He is brilliant, talented, classy man. I respect the Neurosurgical surgeons...
Ben went cooocooo in the White House
@@deykno87 Facts
@@deykno87 EVERYTHING goes cooocooo in the White House! Don't fall for the bs though. One of my favorite things about this episode is Dr. Rolle's persistent praises of Dr. Carson. His insistence that he kept within himself to achieve what he has is a testament to what staying the course will do for you, despite the unpopularity and so-called stigma of it! Dr. Carson's rise from poverty and determination to be the first to successfully perform a separation of conjoined twins AND the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a baby still in the womb is MUCH more significant than any political headlines. The man was the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center at the age of 33 in 1984! It's absolutely astounding what he accomplished, especially coming from an environment that would normally stunt growth, dreams, and aspirations of so many. It's no wonder he's such an inspiration for Dr. Rolle's success!
I cried so bad watching that game when Myron came in late. It was my proudest moment of being black. I was so proud of him for making that decision. I still talk about him and that moment. I'm still pound. Thank you, Myron for being that example.
This is the best podcast, yall killing the game! 🔥
🗣💯
As someone who studied psychology and neuroscience in college, this was one of my favorite episodes yet. This guy is inspiring
One of the best podcast out.
For sure
Hands down!!
Hands down the greatest interview ever Myron Rolle is a national black hero. to all the young minds that see this comment you can be a great athlete or a great rapper or entertainer as well as a Doctor, Lawyer, Judge at the same time young people the sky is the limit for you reach it do everything you want to do
These guys are getting better every show the chemistry is amazing proud of these fellas
His humble character respectful nature and display of intelligence is impeccable.
this is awesome for young black boys to see, and allowed them to know that FOOTBALL is not their only option!
I’m going to use his name when I’m talking to kids at my schools
I agree he should be apart of black history in the next 10 years.
Hollywood need to do a movie about this man.
They will
This is what young athletes need to hear and see more often. @thepivot I’d love to see former Minnesota Vikings running back Robert Smith on the podcast. He walked away from the game in his prime to preserve his health, but to also pursue a career in medicine. He was a dawg on the field too 4 yrs of 1k+ rushing yards.
Man this is dope. I just became and Orthopaedic surgery resident so awesome to see former athletes moving into medicine. Much love
Talk about the epitome of “The Pivot.” What a powerful, riveting, and excellent interview.
Dr Rolle is the best of us and he did it without forgetting the rest of us. Salute!!
💯🙏🏾
These guests are upper echelon!! I see the vision Channing and Fred have.
Sometimes God will move someone out the way so you can pursue your higher PURPOSE! Glad they stood on their own!
TOP TIER!!!🏆🏆🏆
I remember wanting Myron Rolle to make it in the NFL and as a doctor. He’s truly an inspiration. Another great podcast.
So glad we get these kinds of conversations now instead of whatever IAA turned into
I feel like Channing is really starting to grow and develop . Seems more relaxed and even his questions have come along way hes not just the comic relief .
Who? Lol
@@ghart22 auto correct lol good catch
Anyone who says it can't be done.. just look at this man.. amazing
I love when black guys tell their story of hard work and dedication! Not once did he complain about being oppressed and counted out!
Channing asked his best question ever with that would you be a better surgeon or better player if you would have focused solely on one or the other
Agreed. And RC acted like it wasn't a good question.
I'm so happy someone finally gave this man an interview.
Salute to Dr. Rolle because the brother Doing his thang 💯!!!
Going to school At Famu same time he was at FSU was epic. Saw him play a few times and he was a beast on the field and a scholar in the classroom
Captain obvious 🚨
Colac 🐍🐍
He sucked in college. Overrated lol. That's why he didn't make it. He is a decent dude and I give him all the props for his success in medicine but he was not a "beast"
@@crazyace88 you sound like a hater lol 😂. ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, and All-American at FSU but overrated by you lol 😂
@@crazyace88 he was the best player on defense at the time what u talking bout lol
U gotta appreciate the realness these dudes bring.. ESPN, CBS, FOX ETC. would never allow some of these questions, and inputs these men provide ✊🏽💯
Reading the book rn so far it is a really good read. Very inspiring and motivating great stories
Oh my gosh another Bahamian. We are most definitely taught to fight for everything in life if we want it bad enough. Much respect.
I am also in the medical field which I am obsessed with. I am a 14year Army combat medic. I love to help hurt people. That is my gift from God.
That’s everybody “Black”! If you don’t work hard nobody’s going to give you anything.
I was so proud of Myron as a FSU fan!!! Big inspiration personally. And CAN WE PLEASE GET SOME SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY NALIA??? 🙏🏾 ✊🏾
Very very important guest. Much appreciation to you all
🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸 represent!!!
OH MY GOD!! Thank you PIVOT podcast for having Myron Rolle on your podcast. This is what our people need to see, as well as those who don't look like us. Thank you guys!!
Myron Rolle big respect, watched him the whole way. Im up the street. in Salem Ma. at Salem Hospital. Id like to meet this brother.
rolle is a great example that every parent should show their children on what they can be in life & to strive for even if athletics doesnt work out
Man, I wish these stories would hit harder in the mainstream media. Culture needs more blueprints like this.
Share it with u family and friends that’s how I support. Gotta spread the good word!
He wouldve been a monster had his focus been football. Dude was a 5 star and an impact player while being a Rhodes Scholar AT THE SAME TIME. Football wasnt even his primary focus in school and STILL got drafted in the 5th round.
That doesnt seem like a big deal on the surface...dude was the cream of the crop both academically AND athletically.
This guy is a true once in a lifetime talent, im so glad he's getting shine because he deserves it!
I’m listening in Australia this is by far the most in depth and most eye opening I’ve seen on any podcast in a long time. You 3 are changing the perspective of athletes with every guest. I feel more enlightened and educated just from this episode. Keep it up this is what it’s all about. Myron Rolle is a prime example of what chasing your purpose and dream is all about. What an amazing Man.
I sent this episode to my son especially… he'll be attending TSU in the fall… he will be studying Physical Therapy… I hope Myron Rolle can be the inspiration to him that I see Brother Rolle to be. I always wonder how The Pivot will top their last episode, and every episode is top notch. Love the conversations. I feel like I'm in the room with y'all. Always great questions!
Physical Therapist here. It may be some hard days ahead, but tell your son it’s a marathon and not a race and he will get through it!
@@coloredcoils2994 thank you bro… I'll definitely pass along your message
Man this guy inspires me. I can’t even fathom becoming a pro athlete and a doctor at the same time. Salute
Man, y'all brothers are really holding it down. I pray much success for you all and the mission, vision and values you uphold. Thanks for great guests like Dr. Rolle. This is great.
3:12 "Rolle" models 😎 this is an amazing episode so far. Dr. Rolle is a very smart and talented brother
As a Titans fan since the beginning it was dope to listen to this interview. As a TSU alum, I need one of the sweaters ASAP! The Pivot delivers another hitter!
I was hoping someone would say this lol
He’s an such inspirational human. I remember juat hearing small snippets about him from time to time about how he was pursuing his education. I’ve been rooting for him ever since. To see him finally achieve his goal and become one of the best neurosurgeons in the world is so cool.
To actually hear him speak in this interview and hear how down to Earth he is as a person is just awesome. He came off as very genuine, authentic and humble. A great man indeed!
10/10 interview!!!
Black excellence at its finest . Chan is the wild man, Freddie flowers the OG and RC the media man … and Dr. Rolle beast!!!
I likes that Freddie Flowers.
If there is any conversation I show my sons in 10-12 years, it is this one. I played football. There were many things I've wanted to do that have not come to fruition--both by ignorant and known choice. At a point in my life where the itch is back and I've got to strategize. It would be awesome if my kids did not take the same path and from this, know that they can do many things at once. There is no ONE path. I remember watching that Maryland game on TV and knowing who Myron Rolle is. Thank you for reminding me of that inspiration and continuing your passion. This such a great conversation.
Hands down this one of the best shows out.
The Pivot, this will be a transformative and inspiring episode for many people. Dr. Myron Rolle, shows by his life choices, that with hard work and dedication, you can pivot, and anything is possible. Chan, Fred and RC, keep pushing forward, because your platform will transcend sports. Bravo!!!!!!

@@cassandracraig3708 Thank you! These conversations are definitely needed, and much appreciated.
This show is so amazing... timing and order always on point. Just had Charles Barkley explaining how the representation of success for our community mainly being athletes, when we have so many other pioneers. Rolle, in my humble opinion will be included in the list of men my young boys will honor.
The best show hands down, you guys platform is such positive energy. This show is about the guest!!!👍🏾
This guy is so inspirational. I remember watching him at FSU and he was a baller, but to be able to achieve what he has off the field is almost unfathomable. Good football player, Great Dr., and an even better man. Respect bro.
Y'all guest appearances are impeccable! Remember Myron Rolle back in the FSU days when I was in middle school
I followed Myron Rolle story for a while. Channing was spot on with his questions. My dream was to play in the NFL. I wish I pursued it harder. I ended up going to military to be able to support myself. I only join the military because I knew I didn't want to go to jail. But my only goal in life was to go to the NFL. I'm glad they had Rolles on here to show people you can play sports and still pursue being whatever you want to do in life. I will be getting his book.
Myron must be a superhuman, how he manages to commit to two hardest jobs . Like Ryan said wanting to be an NFL player and a Neurosurgeon that never correlate. I'm very impressed.
This can't be the same channing. What great questions he brought to the show. Great sit-down
He versatile 😅😅
@@whodat5492I'm guilty. I judged. He is versatile
This is already one of the greatest poscasts of all time. The amount of education and entertainment provided with the insight and hilarious moments, I’m just so thankful y’all are doing this. So much respect to y’all! Freddy T to the HoF too!!
The best interview I’ve ever heard! Hands down God bless this man and we MUST protect him
Kills the whole dumb jock stigma and love it!! True student-athletes do exist. Congrats to Dr. Rolle 👏
I remember reading about Dr.Rolle during his journey as a high school student at the time I never thought football players could be in his profession! I’m beyond proud of him bro is the definition of putting in work to get where you want to be!!
Not even half way through it yet and this is a great episode
Studied the same people he talks about. Love this conversation. High level conversations
Bro is one of my favorite football players ever. I remember doing reports on him in school. Shout out to the Pivot
Now THIS is a pivot! What an incredible story of determination and perseverance. I love how he has taken the lessons he’s learned in the sport and applied it to being a surgeon. We are not monolithic! Our ability to not just do but be successful at it ALL is important to put out to the world. Well done. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
A truly exceptional human being that was blessed with physical and intellectual gifts. Loved this podcast. Makes you want to better yourself.
This dope! Myron reppin my HBCU I just graduated from!! Love seeing big blue get supported. He highly intelligent and I loved hearing his journey over the years. Loved this episode
You could tell there was a “big brain” in the room with Myron Rolle started talking. Dope ass interview! I would have loved to hear them brothers get more deep into the CTE convo, but nevertheless well done fellas! ✊🏾
That would have been great
Hands down most favorite episode!!!
I say that every episode. These guys.....
I have watched every episode and I did not think it possible to do better than EVERY PREVIOUS ONE as far as the quality of the guest. Y'all did it. FSU grad here and incredibly proud of this incredible person. Just paused the pivot and pre ordered the book on Amazon. Ya'll should do the same.
Y’all have the best interviews in this space. I watch every episode. Heard about Myron Rolle as a kid. It’s good to see the good brother in the spotlight.
Excellence. I just witnessed excellence. The Pivot is now my favorite and preferred podcast. It is not just sports and entertainment but rather stories that are relevant and interesting. Thanks for giving much more than anticipated almost everytime. Big up to the support crew and families that support your work. I know it has to be a great sacrifice.
Met this brother at the airport during my vacation in the Bahamas. Him and his beautiful wife are so down to earth and approachable. I admire and respect Mr. Rolle.
Knew some of his story from when he played at FSU, but he's a really inspiring black man. Great 2% show!
What an episode! I remember living in MD, being a terp fan and hearing about Myron and his journey. This is one of the best episodes yet and kudos to Myron for everything he’s accomplishing.
When I seen rolle coming on I knew I was gone tune in been loving his story and him since college. I really didn't care what he did in the pro's I just wanted him to prosper in the medicine world, yall keep the great conversations coming fellas
Helluva job by Channing this episode, asked some very insightful questions. Rolle was also a great guest, definitely broke down some barriers of the perception of the typical “student athlete” 💯
Showing us not just telling us what “we” can be is essential.. ima say it every post.. best podcast out hands down.

I freaking love this show
If PIVOT was a person!!! Wow, now this was an amazing interview and truly shows that we as human beings, we all have more than one gift and can always pursue IF we desire to do it. Allow yourself to have several goals, not just one. Love it!!!! Thank you Kings for the continued meaningful content!
