I agree. I met Conrad in that era in NYC when they had their profession session monthly here and every time we would chill that night Im 53 so I know that feeling.
I just nearly cried when I found this upload of the newly re broadcast set from 95. This guy is the don. I defy anyone under the age of 60 to listen to this and not be moved to their very core. In my opinion early drum and bass represents the very first truly British dance music, that could never have been created anywhere else in the world. Fully inclusive, this music was created by and for British urban youth and encompassed the entire range of humanity that you only find in the melting pots of UK cities, most notably London. Flawless mixing and track selection showcases a variety of British talent, only enhanced by Conrad's smooth, thoughtfully composed lyrical content. This set never ages and is the drum and bass mix against which all others are compared. Never to be surpassed, it still feels as vital and fresh as the day I first heard it over a quarter of a century ago. Big shout to all the original Junglist Massive, the message in the music is to move! Glad to be the first person to comment on this, thank you Faint.Static. "Music was the madness that was in your soul!!!"
Agreed. A seminal mix by THE dance music OG. Ministry of Sound's Half A Decade Bukem mix is still in my top 5 CDs of all time, and much of those tunes are in this mix. Like you say, it simply never ages, and likely never will. I will do my best to educate my boys in the gorgeous sounds of early Bukem ;)
Listened to this taped off the radio on my Walkman on a train journey from Newcastle to Nottingham in the summer of 95 I remember it was very hot that summer I went to Radford to visit a friend of mine who was an ‘actor’ at the time. Only small parts in Emmerdale and Eastenders were his claim to fame. I tried to get him into this ‘new’ music but he was an old punk rocker and didn’t really like it ! I still listened to it after my trip down there all the way home on the train back to Newcastle. And I’m listening to it again now In 2022 ! A few days before my 50th birthday 🎂 !!! Long live this mix !!!!! ‘Tick Tick Tick Tick Tumble r Rumble r Roll…’ 😎
I used to watch him play at the blue note on a Saturday night in mid 90s cos it was the only rave that wasn't full of trigga happy crack heads, God bless London ❤️
Tears in my eyes as I hear this...47 years old and I'm still totally in love with both these essential mix sets with Bukem and (sadly) the late Conrad.. PEACE
yeah, this is it. we all thought this was/will be the new world. That changed in 2001. From then on, we all rode the roller coaster until we went into free fall last month.
Yeah, it was great...but instead of doing anything about moving the world towards peace and prosperity, we just danced and danced and danced and then nothing done in the real world, we were too busy getting fucked to care that our rights were being stolen from us with the Criminal Justice Act, no one really cared as long as there was at least somewhere to get fucked up and dance and those that did care were too few...and I don't mean to be a bitch, but one has to consider that an awful lot of people we danced with believing that the world was changing for the better voted Brexit and for the Tories in multiple elections. What shames me most about our generation is that we didn't learn the lessons of the Hippies or the Punks that came before: It takes action, not peace and love/nihilism and edginess to affect change in the world.

Game changing mix for me; felt like Bukem was on the crest of a whole new genre after the hardcore phase - first time I heard MC Conrad whose style also felt like a step change - hybrid hip hop and jungle flow with real smoothness that wove in and out of the beats. Utterly magical. RIP @therealmcconrad 🎤😢🕊️
I don’t know what it is about Jungle but it connects with you on such a fundamental level. It stirs the soul. Maybe it’s the fusion of contemporary styles with a very tribal, primeval beat that would have likely hit the eardrums of our ancestors. Whatever it is, it means that this music never approaches ‘antiquated’ or ‘corny’ like much of the other styles of dance music. It is eternal. Long live LTJ Bukem and long live DnB

Takes me back to those early days, I felt privileged to have experienced them first hand, its not every day you get to witness a paradigm shift in music and social involvement. I see throughout UA-cam comments about DnB depicting deep emotional connections and 'life changing' experiences, this is truly awe-inspiring and not to be taken lightly, and you know LTJ was at the forefront. LTJ Bukem…. out of all the DJ’s and the different types of music i love, what an amazing human being…… I can’t describe how amazing he has been through my life! Always the one DJ i come back to after the likes of Goldie, Peshay, Grooverider and a few more i could mention. Wish you all could have been there with me!
Ferkin' awesome! Been looking for this for years. I'd just started a new job and the same night hit the A130 to Southend off the Army n' Navy flyover with my good friend Ryan, at speed, whilst listening to this. The feeling was like blasting off to another galaxy! So glad to see it hasn't vanished and still sounds as fresh as the day it was recorded. Totally brings back back the memories. It's now 2023, 28 years later and I've got my avatar dancing to it on my laptop. Shows how times have changed!
It's clearer now which tracks Bukem used for Mixmag Volume 3 (and 21) after listening to this. This Essential mix was a foreshadowing of those magical Mixmag compilations that hooked me from 1996 onward and to my mind, Bukem's best work ever, with Logical Progression 1 a close second. Thanks directly to Bukem's influence, my DnB preference is and will forever be for the intelligent, drum funk, Amen break, deep, complex beat types. I'm relieved that the likes of DJ Equinox and the Scientific Wax label continues this legacy.
Twas the soundtrack at the magic roundabout for a good while, then promised land came out. Both life changing mixes, not forgetting the second bukem essential mix... Many many miles travelled in my Nova's, bukem at max volume. Good times had by all. My claim to fame is....I met bukem in Cardiff....he used the cubicle after I had a come up dump! I proper held my head in shame!
Just heavy sound went to evry progression including the one in tokyo what an era still support the man evry time is back on the case with the sound of the DNBASS

I was in London in the summer of '95. I was 22. Speed, The Blue Note, rare groove nights everywhere, The End had just opened, amazing radio on Kiss 100 and all pirate radio stations every night... seems like a dream now.

So sad Conrad has passed. This combination we're the dogs bollocks. Still sounds so fresh 👌
I haven't heard this since I recorded it on cassette. It's timeless ❤
LTJ Bukem…. out of all the DJ’s and the different types of music i love, what an amazing human being…… I can’t describe how amazing he has been through my life! Always the one DJ i come back to after the likes of Goldie, Peshay, Grooverider and a few more i could mention. Wish you all could have been there with me!
Flawless mix and incredible snapshot of such an amazing era of music! Take me back!
This is sublime. Flawless flow.

I remember...
Awesome! Essential mix March 1996 is one of my favourites as well...

@@faint.static legend!!! What a superstar…
Bukem dano........been listening to ltj since 1990
It's clearer now which tracks Bukem used for Mixmag Volume 3 (and 21) after listening to this.
Ltj Bukem Mc Conrad way ahead of the rest pure class this mix brings back some memories 👌😎
Outragous mix! One of the best I've ever heard. Masssive Ridge Racer Type 4 vibes. Cooooooler!
This is a GEM. So grateful to have it available here.
Rest easy, MC Conrad 😿
Sublime , taped it on the night and had many a mad session replaying it .
In the words of His Happening Highness, Lord Pete of Tong...
"This should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area"

Loudness buttons ON
I was in London in the summer of '95. I was 22. Speed, The Blue Note, rare groove nights everywhere, The End had just opened, amazing radio on Kiss 100 and all pirate radio stations every night... seems like a dream now.
Tearing up when the fist sounds rolled on..... So fortunate to exist at that time and be inspired is still are by this wonderful balance of energy and calmness...
Heard this in the 90s when I was not even a teenager. Still listening today.
The best essential mix ever. bukem and Conrad. Get the fuck in. The soundtrack to my life. I really have to accept that I will be teary every time I hear is voice for ever. This I am powerless to do anything about. Thank you Conrad for directing a twelve year old kid with your influence. You and bukem are my hero’s. From that first time I got three tapes from a guy selling tapes back in 94 at a festival my dad took me too. The rest is history. Thank you I can’t say that enough. Rip
Just come take a look at what weve found.., deep down underground as the speakers boom and the speakers pound as we take it deep down UNDER 👌🔥
Conrad is a total legend. Adds to the music rather than taking away. GQ was / is the same.
