Most every electronic device allows you to buy a new battery and easily install. My car does, all my flashlights do, my server does, my pen light does, my house does, my garage lights, bathroom lights etc. Yet somehow we have lost the ability to easily change a battery in a phone. Hmmm Wonder why? They have brainwashed people into thinking "Hey I need a new phone because the battery is bad" lets fill up more dumps with electronics for the sake of a battery that was engineered to not be easily changed.

    • @trevor557
      @trevor557 4 роки тому +9

How is this not easy? I've changed batteries on all different kinds of phones around my town as a side-business. It's not difficult. Heck, it's not even time consuming. Phones today are only slightly more time consuming because now they have an adhesive seal to prevent water from getting into the device. I mean, you're literally complaining on a video that shows you step by step how to replace the battery. It's not that hard.
By the way, many cars are now using a "programmable" battery with a chip that modulates the power usage to extend the lifetime of the battery and notify the user of any fluctuations. These are not your typical bottom barrel commuter cars, however, the technology will eventually trickle down into commuter cars as well.

    • @icee0711

You will likely compromise the adhesive seal enough that the phone will no longer be water proof. It's best, and cheap, to buy new adhesive to get a good seal.
Unless you don't care if it's waterproof, then just heat the glue up and stick the original back on there...

Thanks for informative video, just done mine! Got slow and half a day battery after just over a year of heavy use.
Take your time, go careful, more delicate than iPhone removals.
Getting the back off here is the hardest part! I used limited tools I had at home, used a needle to get in then followed that with iSesamo and small crosshead driver!
Once back off don't jolt or move back until fingerprint scanner unplugged or you'll snap it.
Just like the iPhone touch ID i doubt it replaceable because of security features!

    • @crathgeb

There are four pins connecting the wireless charger to the phone acting like springs against the wireless charger . When you removed the battery you probably crushed them down. You can take a little screwdriver and raise them gently. To locate them, from the above video at 2:32, take the screw hole number two, go to the right and when you reach the edge of the printed circuit board (the green thing) just before reaching the battery, they are just a few Millimeter up.

Cathgrebs description is totally correct. Worked perfect to restore wireless charging for me. Take note that the 4 pins actually look ok....BUT when you use a jewelry screwdriver and pull them up a bit, they actually kind of spring up like they go on a high reset mode for the contacts to click down onto them. so RESET each little spring loaded contact (really tiny(

If anyone's watching this in 2021, for a phone purchased late 2019ish. Your adhesive is likely to the point of crazy glue, no amount of heat will release it.
I just broke my rear panel trying to get it off; either get a spare panel or get someone professional to do this whole thing. Honestly not worth the headache, now I'm left waiting for a replacement panel with a completely shattered rear panel expelling bits of glass into my pockets.

I built a saw with dental floss and two sticks for the handles. Then I sawed through the adhesive, beginning at the bottom of the phone. When I was around the middle of the phone, I was able to use my iFixit tools to open the rest properly.

Man, I was right there with you... but I kept at it and eventually after hours of trying, several blisters, and a lot of frustration, I got it off. What worked for me was applying heat (hair dryer) and suction (ifixit suction cup) at the same time, not heat-then-suction, and it didnt look like there was any gap but I tried one of those guitar pick spudgers while heating and suctioning and managed to get it in there and start cutting the adhesive.

Only problem I ran into was that I had 2 pins bent and when I went to push them back, as carefully as I possibly could with a tiny precision screw driver, they broke off. in my case these pins had become extremely brittle.
