- For the second episode of Gagosian Premieres, we celebrate "Gregory Crewdson: An Eclipse of Moths"-a new exhibition at Gagosian, Los Angeles-with author Malcolm Gladwell, film critic Elvis Mitchell, musician and author Jeff Tweedy, and the artist.
In his new series "An Eclipse of Moths," Crewdson depicts locales of removed isolation and anchors his photographic figures in relation to a source of light. In each image, the viewer is positioned above in a semi bird’s-eye vantage point, in scenes that combine hope with the forgotten and restlessness with ennui.
Converging from three different locations-Great Barrington, Massachusetts; New York City; and Chicago-Crewdson, Gladwell, and Tweedy speak about Crewdson’s new body of work, our current moment, the American landscape, and the musical score that Tweedy composed in connection to the series. Mitchell joins from Los Angeles to take the audience on a walkthrough of the exhibition and share his experience of seeing the works for the first time.
While the episode is airing, Crewdson will answer questions on UA-cam LiveChat and present a signed and numbered limited-edition book, published by Aperture, with a personal inscription to one randomly selected viewer who participates in the conversation.

Prime example of why this guy was featured as my grad quote.
It was probably a decade ago that i daw three fine execs amples of Gregory Crewdson's pictures. Each one held a mystery, an unknown backstory ready to be told, if only someone could write it, capture it. But then, each new person to view a picture, i thought, would see different elements, perceive the picture in a different way. That's what's intriging and almost 'inviting' about his pictures.
Later, much later, i heard some music, Jon Hassell's inspiring sounds...and poetic title....of 'One Night the Moon came Dropping its Clothes in the Street.'
You can instantly 'see' why the title works, yet its beauty is mysterious, its metaphor is so unusual without being a cliche. Such is also the music...and, may i say, might suit a carefully selected picture by Gregory Crewdson.
I also realise, and admire, the enormous amount of preparation which goes into the photography, because his pictures are not just a lot of 'click-and-go' efforts.
I look forward to seeing more in the UK!!

this is all staged.. I mean it's fictional, the people are obviously postured, posing. if it has meaning, it's all fake, how can one feel empathy. sorry, it's like advertising for a movie.

100 k. Yeah cos 1995 was 1995. Not 2020 just like asking someone from 2045 the same thing . You are asking someone to look into the future or someone from the future looking into the past. If you wasn't in ww2 you don't know what it was like. You have to experience it.
