I've said it before, I'll say it again, the Carpenters are my favorite musical act of all time. This isn't one of my favorite songs, but there's no such thing as a bad Carpenters song.

Thank you JB for the reaction. I am 66 years old and had the pleasure of seeing the Carpenters live. Karen's sweet voice was as good live as it was on records (sorry..showing my age).. I too had a hard early life loosing both of my parents when I was 7 years old.. Karen's sweet voice got me through my days and years..If you are in the USA..you should visit her grave at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California. It is as calm and serene as she was. Please do more Carpenters.. Great work btw..

It goes without saying that I love the Carpenters...always have since I was a little kid, and always will until I die. Karen's voice was never matched by anyone, and never will be. And dude, the emotion in your voice alone brings tears to my eyes...just hearing the younger generation listening to them and falling in love with them. It keeps their memory alive.

THEE PERFECT VOICE.. even in this upbeat "pop" song her voice was perfect for it.. perfect tone, crystal clear diction and enunciation, .. the ULTIMATE singer who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU and made you feel the story of the song, whether a upbeat song like this one or one of their many many legendary love and romance songs at a slower beat. She made you feel joy or sorrow, sadness or hope, love or yearning with her voice and whatever particular song she sang.

I know you love Karen Carpenter's voice. In my opinion, one of their very best albums is called "A Kind of Hush" from 1976. SO MANY good songs from that album including the title track, "There's a Kind of Hush," "Sandy," "I Know I Need to Be in Love," "I Have You" and "One More Time." I know this might be a lot to ask, but I'd love to hear your reactions to all of these songs. You will fall in love with her voice even more.

Hi, JB. I love this! This song is one of my favorites by Karen & Richard, too. I thought you'd love to know, too, that Karen was the drummer in the studio on this record, too. So all drums and percussion is all Karen Carpenter, too, over and above the lead vocals and overdubbed backup and harmonies.

I hope this New Year you'll react to their "Only Yesterday" song James. Near the beginning of the song there's a lyric that goes "In my own time, nobody knew the pain I was going through.".... which is so poignant now we know about her struggle with anorexia......It still saddens me to hear those words all these years later but you're never forgotten gal.

Karen had already passed away by the time "Voice of the heart" was release. Her brother Richard completed it. In fact, many of the songs on that album were work leads, meaning they were meant to be recorded again. But Karen was just that good! Even her work leads sounded amazing!

A bit of trivia: Karen Carpenter was an avid collector of Disney memorabilia. Her bedroom was loaded with stuffed animals, posters, etc. This video was filmed at Disneyland only 10 miles down the road from their hometown of Downey CA. The Marvelettes and Beatles both previously sang this song. Richard gave it the Carpenter royal treatment with his amazing orchestration. Gotta love those 70s horns and the acoustic guitar at the end. Another masterpiece in their massive catalog of music. 16 Top Ten hits and 150 million records sold worldwide (this is vinyl only - long, long before any downloads.

Growing up with this music, I'm telling you, it makes me laugh about most so called artists from today. I am a child of the 70s and 80s. And the Carpenters have always been my favorites. I'll go through your uploads now. I want to see your reaction to songs like : top of the world, yesterday once more, only yesterday and ticket to ride. But the music touches you, and Karen is just magic......

Please if there is one song to check out its a song called "Now". it was her last ever recording. it wasn't even meant to be the final vocal used, the vocal recorded was only a guide for recording the instrumentation done in typical one take karen style. she died before she got to record the final proper take. being honest, if the vocal on the song wasn't even meant for the final cut, it will show you just how amazing this woman was. from the first sung word, bam it hits you right in the guts the heart and sends your head to a heavenly place. there really will never be anyone like karen again. she was an original one off and i cant as a 39 year old man, not stop myself from tearing up when i hear that voice. PS there is a movie made about her too, ahhh so many amazing songs. another Calling Occupants of interplanetary Craft. recorded for world contact day about making contact with life in the solar system. Touch me When were dancing another great song with a stellar sax solo.

James, wow, that was moving what you said about Karen. I’m definitely with you about her singing and voice. Not sure if you’ve heard these but I haven’t seen reactions of them yet. Here are some more great Carpenters songs: “top of the world”, “Honolulu city lights” , “ it’s going to take some time”, “yesterday once more”, and “ticket to ride“, a Beatles cover. Confident you’ll really like all of these. I think if you love a band you should definitely pursue listening to more of them.

I think that you respond to her so well because behind that beautiful voice was tortured soul in pain; like calls out to like. This is the concept behind support groups being with others who share whatever condition your heart is in is cathartic because it acknowledges the unseen human connection that we all share. This is also I believe why music is the international translator; one does not need to understand the words to understand the feelings.

OK now I m focussing...you hi the nail right on the head...Nostalgic is the key in all this .Because Of my age my nostalgia is spread over most of two decades namely the 60s and 70s covering many, many songs of many, many groups and singers. Now, thanks to you I am seeing “my” music in a different light but still associate certain songs and music with certain places or happenings which are personal to me .It,s amazing sometimes a subliminal flashback can produce a taste or smell...but it’ s soon gone.

I've gone through very, very tough times and am still going through them with no end in sight for so far ay least, so I know somewhat what your going through. So if we can find something pure and fun like the Carpenters, then why not? That's what we need. And yes, I felt the same way, that she was and is the big attraction to their music, but at the same time, Richards songwriting and I think he also arranged the songs, not to mention his great piano playing holds it all together. I remember listening to their songs every day for months straight. After your videos I was dying to get my hands on my old carpenters cds and play them.

Both Karen and Richard had pitch perfect voices. Sadly Karen had her demons which led to her early downfall. Their songs are timeless.

Please react to "A Song For You" if you want to tear up. And keep talking about Karen, I love her too. And love your reactions. You are so real.

Great choice, JB. This was the #1 song in America on Jan. 25, 1975. Karen was at the height of her beauty. She was likely 24 when the video was shot at Disneyland. From my understanding, they closed down the whole park that day to film it. From the same album (HORIZON), I recommend "Desperado".

Hi ~ Between my big sister and myself, we had every Carpenters album. I would hold a soda bottle or a hair brush and sing along almost every day. Karen taught me how to sing. She and Barbra Streisand. ~ Great choice. ♥

You need to react to the night chicago died by paper lace. It's about the saint valentine's day massacre. It exaggerates the actual events, but it's a really good song.

I did not see this when you first posted it, but I will comment anyway. The song was one of the few songs from the 1950s-1970s which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by different artists (The Marvelettes about 1962 and Carpenters in 1975). I believe it was the first song not written by Carole King and Gerry Geffen to do so. Their songs were "Go Away Little Girl" (Steve Lawrence '62 and Donny Osmond '71) and "The Locomotion" (Little Eva '62? and Grand Funk Railroad '74). IMHO, the Carpenters version of "Please Mr. Postman" was definitely more polished than the earlier versions. Further, their version was the biggest selling worldwide.
Another "remake" the Carpenters did that is worth listening to is "There's a Kind of a Hush" which was made a hit by Herman's Hermits in the mid-1960s. That was also a big hit internationally for them (only #12 on the Billboard Hot 100; #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts).
