When I was a kid, the Project Mercury stamp was the first stamp I put in my US Liberty Stamp Album.
When I started collecting as an adult, I looked for Mint Not Hinged US Stamps. I made sure the Project Liberty was the first stamp I put in my new US Liberty Album!!!!!
Cool. I didn’t start collecting until I was 19. My first was the bicentennial Boston Tea Party block of four.
Great talk, thanks!
Thank you, Douglas.
Very informative and a nice little piece of American philatelic history, thanks for sharing ! 👍Greets from GER, U.
Thanks, U.
When I was much younger my mom and I went to the local post office and with my money I earned purchased 50 1st Day Covers. Unfortunately over the years the glue on the envelopes have bleed through 😢. But I still remember the adventure purchasing the covers😊
Sorry to hear about your covers. I hope you're still enjoying the hobby. Thanks for watching.
Purchased that Stamp when it was released, just a nice commemorative until now, thanks for that really nice informative video. Oh yeah, I knew I had to have that Cover buried somewhere. Cape Canaveral, FL., Feb. 20, 1962, 3:30 PM. Now It has a lot of history, thank you. Good luck in your new place and keep those video's rolling.
That's cool, you have the Cape Canaveral cover. That's the one I would want.
Wow! So great. I love secret stamps and the fact that the postal service likes to surprise folks! I know that could be taken a number of ways, you know what I mean. Great video!
Thanks, Adam.
Glad to hear you are well, interesting story
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Portugal.? Hugh. That would make a fine 1st day cover. Hugh. Hey Ted . Nice first day cover . Plural
Had been a collector already for 3 years when this stamp was issued. Many people hoarded sheets thinking that it might become valuable someday. Large printing and the hoarding insured that it will never become valuable.
Yeah. I wonder how many people are still holding on to their Elvis Presley stamps (the first one) waiting for "someday" to arrive.
Thank you for helping keep philately alive!
What an interesting bit of history. Great video and good for you to be up and running already. Kudos to the postal service for pulling of this secrecy. Unimportant fact: I was born in 1962, so I will remember this about the secret Mercury stamp and the mission of the Mercury. Welcome in Portugal, Ted. All the best for this new adventure in your life. 🙂
Thank you Charnie. I have fallen behind in keeping up with other YT channels. I will be sure to check out your latest videos today.
Thank you. And , you too. I just got the lunar new year sheets . Got 2 of them. One to use.
Whenever I buy an extra sheet to save, I end up using it. I hate when that happens.
What an interesting story about this stamp!
I've been collecting since 1974, although I spent very little time on US stamps compared to my worldwide interests, and I only recently learned the story behind this stamp, myself.
Thanks Ted for another great video.
Thanks Sheldon.
Was really a big event. First time I saved an article from the LA Times. Too bad I cut it out of paper. A very common stamp.
Yep. One of the nice things about this hobby is the fun and the interest derived from even the most common stamps.
