How Educational Service Centers Are Supporting On-the-Job Teaching Degrees

In Ohio, Brown County Educational Service Center (ESC) and Southern Ohio ESC have partnered with BloomBoard to offer on-the-job professional training for paraprofessionals. The innovative program provides the option of either a PK-5 (elementary) or an MMIS (special education) degree from Lake Erie College.
In this unique residency program, paraprofessionals already working for Brown our Southern Ohio ESCs - or in the districts the ESCs serve - can earn their education degree and certification through a portfolio-based learning model.
Participants progress through the program in a cohort and are supported by master teachers (mentors) within their school building as well as university faculty online.
