Which made them foils to each other, as both Schönkopf and Reuenthal love a good fight, popular with the ladies, and loyal to their leaders. The differences are that Schönkopf remained loyal to the very end, as well as respectful towards women: the very traits that Reuenthal lacked.
@@jemimafajutagana5475 I think the main differences between the two can be summed up as ambition and upbringing. Schonopf grew up with loving grandfather and learnt to be loyal and tempered his urges while Reuental was the bastard son of a disloyal woman. His step father resented him and every time he looked at the mirror his eyes reminded him of his origins. Reuental's backstory is tragic because all of his flaws can be traced back to his childhood trauma. His behavior towards women is understandable. He suffered from a form of Oedipus complex. His disloyalty is not that simple. Remember, his loyalty had been challenged by Oberstein in the past, an event that cracked his trust to Reinhard and planted the seeds for a clash between the two. His rebellion was the result of outside players exploiting his character flaws and his inability to go past said flaws. I see Reuental as the kind of man that comes once every generation but he is screwed up by his shortcomings and the fact that a man that comes once every 10 generations overshadows him. The relationship between Reuental and Reinhad has a few similarities between Lion El Jonson and Luthor from Warhammer 40K.
@@jemimafajutagana5475 I think perhaps you are reading it a little bit shallowly. The reason why he hated Oberstein was also out of the same loyalty. In the original novel, the author described him and Oberstein winning over Reinhard as “chasing after the same jewel”. What an absolutely underrated franchise; this is a story about giant space battles but it isn't glorious or heroic, but mostly grim, depressing, and solemn. While it has been years since I last watched an episode, I do remember that for the most part, a person's death didn't affect society all that much, and it was pretty common to lose several characters in the same campaign. The notable exceptions I can remember are the deaths of Kircheis (being Reinhard's closest friend, second-in-command, and nearly on par to him in regards to strategy & command), as he was killed in front of Reinhard and his death shook Reinhard so much that he almost became a recluse in his depression; the death of Yang Wen-li, as he was sent as an ambassador and was the hero of the Free Planets Alliance, as well as someone who Reinhard had wished to meet since their 2nd or 3rd skirmish against one another many years ago; and, the death of Reinhard himself, being the kaiser of the Galactic Empire. Other than those deaths, the war march didn't stop.
Onion cutting ninjas accompany me every time I watch this epic anime. Years have passed but I still cannot handle the death of Kircheis, Reinhard, and Wenli.
Yang's was probably the most heartbreaking one, but I couldn't stop my tears when I saw Reuenthal's, especially when his "last meeting" with Mittermeyer
i came here to see blumhart's death (currently watching the gaiden HBS arc and he is so cute in it T_T) but man i forgot that patrichev also died in that ship, my heart can't take it :___ anyway, the music choice is very aptly subdued, it enhances the experience of relieving the deaths of these beloved (and beloathed) characters. thank you so much for sharing this
So, I knew that LOGH exists, becase I read in some YT comment that Yang is one of the greatest generals in fiction. I googled his name, learn who Yang is (also get spoiled about his death) and started to watch LOGH. I felt like shit when Yang died (I teared up of course) but when my boy Rehuental died... My lord, I cried like a baby, a fucking baby.
@@RobertMuldooJP I think the new one isn't bad... but isn't good either. The original LOGH is a 10/10 while The New Tesse is a 6/10: better than a lot of modern animes, but completly inferior than the original OVAs.
Man I watched this video so many times. You did a damn great job at making this! I come back again and again to rewatch this. Thank you for putting this together!
One thing I have to give Logh credit for is the deaths of these characters. It is so violent and turbulent that it really punches things to a new level. Murder isn't pleasant and none of these deaths (even liked characters) had pleasant deaths. It was hard to see them and painful in some instances.
In the time when the mediocrity prevails on art we will seek true beauty beyond humankind and we will find out that the most beautiful thing is the sea of stars. Let the stars shine brightly upon the legend of the galactic heroes because it has become a legend. My soul will cry not for the republic nor empire, but for the sake and the future of everybody.
When I first saw this video in my recommended, I was a little concerned, but I didn't give it much of a thought. What I did not know at the time was the fact that this video exists because almost all of the characters fucking die. Like holy fuck, being an unnamed character gives you a 15% survival rate. As opposed to the named characters, who only 80% of the time.
i know this is late and this won't get a reply but anybody else wanted to make a salute to the admiral's and captains who died specially in this video guys like Schenkopff, Bucock and the likes?
I did. These characters means a lot to me. I gave a salute when Reuental died. Couldn't give a salute when Yang Wenli died, cause I was in a complete shock.
The most shocking death for me... Was Bittenfeld's. And how it never came. But seriously, I was saluting every fallen soldier while watching this show, that's how much I loved these guys.
@@RobertMuldooJP they cut out a lot of the brutality, but that doesn't mean the deaths couldn't be well made. So many great people who deserve to live in this anime, but that's life in way this anime catches that and says no matter how good they are, they still die anyway and no matter how bad
definitely true---one of the scenes that struck me is when the FPA council is debating invading the Empire's space to spread democracy at any cost...pretty relevant
also just to hold political power too thats sounds little close and i wish they made an anime like this these days. a series space si-fi with conquencess, girls but not oversexaulized, treating you the watcher as a smart person not info dumping things in scenes. but otherwise that's my rant
Deaths that really got to me: Bucock, Machengo, Schonkopf, Oberstein, poor Fahrenheit, Jessica Edwards, Yang, Merkatz. Reuenthal's death is also heart-wrenching, but his wounds were treatable. He could have lived had he wanted to...
@@RobertMuldooJP I don't like the design whatsoever. Too bishonen-y for my liking. And Obersten doesn't look as cryptic and 'robotic' as he's supposed to be. He rather looked like a flirt to me. Which he is not. I couldn't bear to watch it whole.
Looking back I'm wondering what percentage of the main cast was dead at the end. 70%? 80%? This show was so damn dramatic... one of the greatest show of all times regardless of its many weaknesses.
That would go the same with Trunicht. How many of us cheered when Reuenthal gunned him down in cold blood. Reuenthal did the FPA a favor even if it was only for Reinhard's sake. I just feel Steinmetz didn't get enough credit first as Captain of Reinhard's flagship the Brunhild and later as an Admiral in the fleet. His line of the movie My Conquest is the Sea of Stars as Yang's ship got close under the Brunhild and Reinhard refused to be a hostage and ordered to keep up the attack, it was Steinmetz that stood up and reminded him "You command the fleet, I command this ship." Reinhard had so many capable and talented men under his command.

Yang wenli , Reinhard and Ruental's scene were the saddest scene it literally broke me
Simple deaths, yet they are all heroes.

pretty awesome to boot 👍!
Kircheis...
#IfKircheisWereHere to see this one emotional video...😢😭
Every death in this show had an impact and a meaning. This anime was beautifully crafted indeed.
Totally agree...the new one is not living up to the original, in my opinion
I can't stop watching this! I know it's going to hurt each time, but I keep coming back for more :'(
Glad that the video is special to you! :) The hardest one for me to watch, besides Yang, is General Schönkopf...I really wanted him to live :(

Right?!!
I'm glad they are making a new one so maybe it will inspire curiosity about the original series lol
LOGH IS FULL WITH CHARACTERS DEATH. WATCHING EACH ONE OF THEM DIED, IS LIKE PUTTING ONION IN MY EYES
I know right? I didn't want to put every character because then the video would be even longer! lol
Same here!
I don't care about reuenthal in this OVA version but I care about reuenthal in die neue these version
@@lin3498 then you don't care about him at all, cuz they're the same person
@@lin3498 That's such a fucking weird thing to say, it's literally the same character in the same story.
Their legend ends, and history begins.
Jessica was the most shocking, probably the fact that it happened out of nowhere
Yang Wen-li...
4:49 I never cried so much for an anime character before, but here we are again. =,(
i came here to see blumhart's death (currently watching the gaiden HBS arc and he is so cute in it T_T) but man i forgot that patrichev also died in that ship, my heart can't take it :___
anyway, the music choice is very aptly subdued, it enhances the experience of relieving the deaths of these beloved (and beloathed) characters.
thank you so much for sharing this
Thank you for watching!
1:07 One of the most satisfactory kills in the series. Sic semper Tyranis
Epic anime series. What did you think of the the new one?
@@RobertMuldooJP I think the new one isn't bad... but isn't good either.
The original LOGH is a 10/10 while The New Tesse is a 6/10: better than a lot of modern animes, but completly inferior than the original OVAs.
@@akumabakemono1447 I feel the same---i didn't feel the same connection with the characters in the new series....plus the music was awful lol

It was so good 😭😭
I always forget how violent Lapp's death was.
I feel like Two Steps From Valhalla right now.
Thx for the amazing video.

RavenEmperor thank you for your kind words :) lots of epic moments in that series

@@RobertMuldooJP prepare your handkerchief
When I first saw this video in my recommended, I was a little concerned, but I didn't give it much of a thought.
What I did not know at the time was the fact that this video exists because almost all of the characters fucking die. Like holy fuck, being an unnamed character gives you a 15% survival rate. As opposed to the named characters, who only 80% of the time.
i know this is late and this won't get a reply but anybody else wanted to make a salute to the admiral's and captains who died specially in this video guys like Schenkopff, Bucock and the likes?
Christian John Salvador I sure did... Every time...
True I thought he would die...
@@RobertMuldooJP evidently, the author of the novels said something like "I planned to, but it just never happened."
It’s gonna be so sad seeing these deaths again especially in better quality😭😭
The new series doesn't have the same depth I don't feel....more visually pleasing but I don't feel the same connection to the characters
@@RobertMuldooJP they cut out a lot of the brutality, but that doesn't mean the deaths couldn't be well made. However, I don't feel the same attachment to the characters so far, it seems as if they've been "simplified", they didn't want to take the heavily political/ideological aspect of each characters, pretty much killing their essence
The artstyle is ass imo
Lutz you frickin liar... :'(
So many great people who deserve to live in this anime, but that's life in way this anime catches that and says no matter how good they are, they still die anyway and no matter how bad
well said, sir. thanks for watching
Thanks, I still rewatch this anime because it's themes are still relevant even 30-23 years later.
definitely true---one of the scenes that struck me is when the FPA council is debating invading the Empire's space to spread democracy at any cost...pretty relevant
also just to hold political power too thats sounds little close and i wish they made an anime like this these days. a series space si-fi with conquencess, girls but not oversexaulized, treating you the watcher as a smart person not info dumping things in scenes. but otherwise that's my rant
But the ones who lived bear the pain and sadness.
I almost cry every time I see Wenli dying.
xooox Thanks I know......such a tragedy
03:38 una de las muertes más satisfactorias de todas :)
How are you liking the new anime vs the original?
@@RobertMuldooJP I don't like the design whatsoever. Too bishonen-y for my liking. And Obersten doesn't look as cryptic and 'robotic' as he's supposed to be. He rather looked like a flirt to me. Which he is not. I couldn't bear to watch it whole.
Even if he had his wound treated, Reuenthal would still die anyway, albeit in a less honorable way via execution.

At one time it was rated the #1 anime on AnimeNfo...that's how I heard about it.
Manly tears are shed.
But you forgot Admiral Kempf and Steinmetz. Their deaths were more tragic than that of Braunschweig.
Sargonarhes lol...I wouldn't say the prince's death was tragic...it was well deserved :p

It would have been better if Bruno (minister of industry) was not killed. He was so important for empire.
When I watched I wanted him to become prime minister as he planned to. But he couldn't. It's very sad
This is the anime game of thrones!
But better because it actually adapts all of the novels and the ending isn’t hot garbage. Seriously I watched LoTGH before season seven of GoT aired and it absolutely ruined GoT for me. I will say it’s easily the best adaptation of any novel series I’ve ever seen. The only things that come close are The Expanse, The Boys, Invincible, and Reacher. Those technically can’t be compared yet because the aren’t finished.
At somepoint I have to cry

This is like, the Game of Thrones of anime!
Jhair Ccorimanya- After the tire fire that was season 7 of GoT I’d say LoTGH is the superior adaptation. But to be fair unlike with LOTGH the last two books of ASoIaF have yet to come out.
Not really, in LOGH characters die for a reason.
@@xAnonymousComedia "Characters die for no reason" is the fratboy interpretation of ASIOAF- like the guys who say it's "Lord of the Rings but with Tits!!!!!" It's not true, but the weaker parts of the show support that interpretation of the franchise as a whole.
