Ben 10 Omnitrix (The Original), Cheap and Easy DIY

- This is a tutorial for a Ben 10 Omnitrix, which was a request from NF Entertainment. This is for the original omnitrix, as far as I know. I'm not actually familiar with the series, so I had to do bit of Googling for reference images of the Ben 10 Omnitrix, and this is the one that kept popping up listed as the original. So if I'm mistaken, someone will have to let me know. This is really cheap and easy to make (and a lot of fun to play with afterward). The little green light I used inside is optional, but it does add a cool effect, they can be purchased here from Amazon: amzn.to/2oKyVBm
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Half sheet of 3mm craft foam (amzn.to/2DH7K2y)
Small scrap of 5mm craft foam (amzn.to/3NBSfN8)
White milk or juice jug cap
Neon green puff paint (amzn.to/2zW3Zsw)
Green finger light: (Amazon link: amzn.to/2oKyVBm)
Gun metal gray paint (amzn.to/2EFMCuN)
Black paint (amzn.to/2BFGYJQ)
Paint brush
Scissors or x-acto knife
Hot glue gun
*Helpful tip from Nerdy Creations: Acetone will remove the ink from the bottle cap.

Omgosh thank you! My 6 yr old has asked me to make "Ben 10s watch." I have only seen like 2 episodes of this show and I didn't pay much attention to it then. I didn't know what he was talking about. You have saved me here. My son says it's perfect. I can so make this for him. Gonna be a Christmas present along with a Ben 10 DVD.

YourBoiRamen - Yup, you can just use colored foam if you have it in all the right colors. It'll save you a step too, since you won't have to paint it then.

Well, you get the bonus points for observation, lol. I think you're the first one who's noticed. (I'd accidentally glued it in the wrong way, and didn't realize it until later, at which point I fixed it, so it changes direction later in the video).

I don't have a template for this one, since most of the pieces were just circles and rectangles. And some of them depend on the size of your bottle cap.

Hey do i have to have 5mm craft foam and is it ok to use super glue?
No, you don't have to use 5mm foam. You can just layer two pieces of thinner foam if you want the same thickness. And yes, you can use super glue. It takes a bit longer to dry, but it should hold fine.

Not better, just a bit easier than trying to layer two thinner pieces. But layering can still be done. I do it when I run out of multiple thicknesses too.

How to make the led? Did you used battery, can you send the link?
They're little battery-powered lights called "finger lights." I found them on Amazon: amzn.to/2oKyVBm and I've also seen them in a 4-pack in Walmart.

It's craft foam. You can get it at places like JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's.

I've got several people who want one. I was hoping to get a chance to make a batch of them this month, but I ended up getting sick and that kind of took up my time. So I probably won't get a chance to make them until later this fall. When I do though, I'll probably sell them for $15. I can add you to the list and let you know when I get 'em made if you want.

Which one is that? (I've never seen the show, so I just go by pics on the internet). If you can describe it, I can probably find a picture to go off of.
The Woodland Elf it’s pretty much the same but the white bands around the omnitrix are green and silver. The dial is green and the buttons on the faceplate are replaced with grey squares. Every thing else is the same.

Can you turn the circle or no?
Mine can't because I hot glued everything in place. But you could make it turn by just not hot gluing the juice cap in the foam circle. Just leave it unglued and you'll be able to turn it fine.

You can do this with cardboard
Yup, you can use cardboard, you just have make sure that most of it is flexible cardboard (like cereal box, or something similar), and you may have to stack a few pieces together, since the cardboard would be thinner than craft foam. But other than that, you'd make it exactly the same way with cardboard.

You can use cardboard instead of foam if you want it easier. Use something like cereal box cardboard so it's flexible.

I used mostly 3mm craft foam, and then just a small piece of 5mm for the button on the side.

Gotcha. To do that, you'd basically just not glue the milk jug cap to the foam around it. That way it can spin and come out. You'll have to spin it manually of course, since there's no way to automate it (at least not that I know of in real life), but it would be manually spinable.
