  • The world as we know it has been shaped by insects. They play incredibly important ecological roles, but face imminent threats around the world. Photographer Levon Biss creates incredible macro images of imperiled species-insects that are disappearing (or already gone) in our current age of mass extinction.
In collaboration with scientists at the American Museum of Natural History, Biss selected specimens from our world-class research collection to serve as representatives of insect decline.

Entomologists and field biologists are rushing to understand and quantify the rapid decline of insect populations and biodiversity. But we can’t wait to protect ecosystems. The exhibition Extinct and Endangered aims to inform the public on the current crisis in insect decline and biodiversity loss, and to inspire a new appreciation for the beauty and importance of the tiny animals with whom we share the planet. Extinct and Endangered opened on June 22, 2022, at the American Museum of Natural History.

I've been seeding my area near my house, end of summer my lawn was full of moths. maybe millions. All different kinds and butterflies. Moths like the white petal butterfly bush too. I can't beleive how many different insects ive seen on it.
    Even deer eat it sometimes.

Sadly, your like count, reflects the overall interest or awareness of world populations. I really don't know how this dilemma can be addressed?

I am trying to help the researchers to identify their moths, wasps, bees, flies, beetles and bugs in North America. They do great things!
