it's weird, because my dog can tell the difference between actual fireworks and the recording... he has no reaction to the audio, but will jump at any sound even remotely resembling a firework.
It knows it's coming from a speaker, that's why; if it can see the speaker or whatever you're using it won't fear the noise coming from it. Hide the speaker then play it. Each dog is different with intelligence levels etc. but worth a try.

As well they don’t just hear the sound but feel the vibration, smell the smoke.
Dogs are highly- sensitive to sounds... swaddling is better.
