I bought this board and I am very happy with it! There seems to be an issue out there with the Phantom button as to being nosey. I never used that button and somebody plugged their Shure mic into it and that mic sounded great!. Great board!
The only 2 things I wasn't comfortable with was no power button and no high mid range and bass controls on stereo channels. But otherwise, price wise and quality is why I picked this one up. Served me well for years and I'm still using it. I kept the box too, because it makes it very easy to transport when you're playing live, and you don't have to worry about controls getting bumped into things on the way there.
When I’m recording my drums, I plugged them all into this. I use an old mic technique where I only use three and/or four mics. Same goes with guitars. The fact it doesn’t have a power button is fine. That’s how we’re saving some money. Plug it into power and then turn the power button off. Instant power button. But this is great because I can equalize everything and then run it into the interface. That way, I just have one line going into the interface instead of a bunch. This little unit made my life so much easier. I engineer and produce my own music. The drums are across the room from the console. So I can mix the drums at the drum set with the headphones on. Instead of having to walk across the room to adjust the volume.
I have this mixer. The phantom power is too noisy to use - the online reviews confirm that this is a common problem. The same thing seems to be happening with the right channel, which I've been using as the monitor channel.
Great video! I have been interested in this mixer for a while, just bought this and it arrived yesterday. I am wondering though, if I would like to use the FX send output, is there a way to use this with an external FX device and route it back into a return spare channel without using the internal FX of the Mackie? From what I see, any time the FX send is used, ultimately the internal FX will have to be mixed with it, or am I missing a workaround? Please advise!

My friend just lend one to me and I have no idea what the buttons are since I never own one lol. Now I'm learning a lot from your vlog. Thank you. I just don't know the size of the cable to use for the tape...any help? Thanks.
It's a really nice mixer, I own it, but one thing that is a deal breaker for me, is that the MAIN MIX knob level is tied to the the CR (control room)/PHONES knob ... Meaning that, for example, you can't mute the main outs while quietly listening to the mix with headphones or monitors. I think this feature is available in the, albeit pricier, ProFX series.
For the record, I tried a ProFX12v2 after using this Mix12FX, but in the end I decided to splurge on a Zoom Livetrak L-12 : awesome device, that one solved all my monitoring problems... 5 different headphone mixes, woohoo.
I don't like mixers without XLR output. Another thing I don't like in that mixer is no control of low/mid/hi for the last channels 5/6, 7/8, 9/10. Thanks for the video review to show us the mixer
Hiya , I have the mackie 12 . I use a fishman sa220 powered pa . I have Two channels on the fisman. I plug the guitar and mic direct into the Pa . I went to day and plugged a second mic and my beat Buddy drum kit into my mackie mixer and used a guitar cable to connect the mixer ( left main out ) to the Pa aux input 1/4 jack . I then get hissing sound through the speakers . Is it the connecting cable I used . Currently don’t have any other cable it was the only jack to jack i have . But what type of cable is best to connect the mixer to the Pa . Could somthing else cause the hiss . When I’m not connecting the mixer all sound is ok . HELP
Thank you! Which one of your videos is about the consumer mixer? I need a mixer for my Rockville Karaoke setup that I can connect Bluetooth devices, tablets, etc. Thanks so much!
Peaple this is a budget product made to compete in a range. Every one of the one's ive seen has the same features if you want more option well get a higher product in the lineup like profx o somthing like that its 200+ but this for the price is excelent for that. there is always more but for a higher price.
I got drunk .. haha ... walked into the music shop and bought one of the rental units. I picked up this mixer, a set of NX25 Yorkville's, and one big subwoofer, Yorkville LS 200P I think. I hooked up the subwoofer the way they said, it did not have any volume to speak of. But I actually forget what I did not, but I sort of ran only the left or the right channel to the subwoofer to make it work. Could someone tell me how to run my subwoofer properly from this mixer?
When my main speakers are plugged in should the balance be straight up on both channels? Or should I pan that balance left and other channel right? I’m just running music and microphone nothing else.
we didn't get to hear any of the FX and there's one FX send..does that mean you can have a mono out to an external fx unit also? I'm guessing not since there's only one FX level row..i.e the yellow ones.
This is my problem... I wanted the mic channels to have a thru on the back... i can not get a clean signal from mixer back into my DAW with this mixer...
Great review. Jus bought one of these and wanted to ask you what kind of external effect can I connect to it. I was thinking of a compressor and an EQ. what are your thoughts?
I'm wondering if anyone can help me . I have a boss rc 30 loop station running into this mixing board .. on the RC 30 there's 2 ( 1/4) outputs.. one is the right out and one is left mono out.. I have the right output going into xlr slot 1 , and I have left mono out going into the 1/4 inch line in on slot 2 . The problem I'm having is there's no seperation between the guitar and vocals no matter how I hook into the mixer . The only thing I can think of is that the problem is the boss doesn't have a dedicated mic out / instrument out line ? If we put the 1/4 line into slot 5/6 we get a little bit of seperation but still not full control over the guitar seperate.
I’m torn between this mixer and the Mackie ProFX4v2 which you also reviewed for solo acoustic live use. Which do you think is better (number of inputs aside)? Thanks!
Mine gets ridiculously hot within 30mins, I had to return it because it just didn't feel right. I've owned two very cheap behringer mixers in the past that both blew and they never reached the temperature this Mackie reached (the thing was boiling dude!)
Hi expert island, Thanks for the nice review. I bought this unit a while back. I really hoped that I could love this unit, but right from the start, the mixer was severly heating up at the right upper corner and the same goes for the adapter that it comes with. The adapter even started making weird noises. At this point I decided to not hook it up anymore, because I'm afraid to damage my other gear. I understand that this is a budget mixer, but I didn't expect anything like this. I looked up some reviews on the mixer and I see there are several other people with the same issues. Did the model that you reviewed show any signs of heating up at all? Thanks and best wishes!
I have this mixer and it is great! Although i'm trying to figure out if this Mixer is capable of plugging in a phone so i can do voice calls in my podcast if there are no aux ports... any suggestions anyone?
Easy solution. You can use a a 3.5mm Jack to RCA cable and plug it into the tape input. Or a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch cable and plug it into the 11/12 input. Which may be better for you, so you can control volume and balance. Hopefully that helps you.
In my opinion beringer has the same option but the stereo channels are to crowded and a friend of mine has one for ocational use and the ch 2 dosnt work not so reliable
Just got one of these last minute for my podcast and I love it! I was seriously impressed

What type tray is that mix held in place on and will it attach to a mic stand?

You did an excellent job on explaining this product sir......sure helped me! Once again ,thank you so much!
That stand you are using, where can I get one? Can it be used to mix in that upright position? Looks easier to see and operate the mixer.

Great review Robin, where on this mixer would i connect subwoofers through?
I like the stand, can you sell me one?
Be nice to get the mixer off my table looking down at the mixer, this way I can just look forward.
Why are there no EQ knobs on the stereo channels?
How would I connect a subwoofer to this mixer?
I read some complains about Mackie mix12fx that it overheats.
Is that something I should be afraid of ?
Well done explenation ;) Thank you!
Where can I plug in my laptop on that mixer please

Easy solution. You can use a a 3.5mm Jack to RCA cable and plug it into the tape input. Or a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch cable and plug it into the 11/12 input. Which may be better for you, so you can control volume and balance. Hopefully that helps you.
