KHTV was such a huge part of my childhood growing up in Houston. I remember all of these news people and the News Before The Hour broadcasts...such a great source of nice memories for me. Thank you so much for sharing this. It was a really nice trip down memory lane.
Wow.... this is one big flashback for me. Thanks for putting all the video up! I'm old enough to remember seeing the old "dots" logo on TV and actually turning a knob on the set to change the channel! Not to mention you could barely get a good signal of 39 in Galveston back in the 70s. I hope to see more classic stuff in the future!
Thanks for this. I appeared on Mary Jane Vandiver's talk show.."Calendar" and then a later version of a morning show..about 20 times in the 1970's-early 80's -- a magic act. And the wonderful Pat Brown. Great memories.
I remember watching as a kid and hearing the deep God like voice of Pat Brown on air. Then in 1990 I had the pleasure of getting to know him as he was my Broadcasting teacher at AIH :) and what he said still is true in the "biz" "It's now what you know its who you know"
As a kid in HS I had a big crush on Mary K Isaac. She went to HSPVA and I was across the street at HTI. Saw her around school now and then but never approached her :-)
Every kid who got on there would just yell POW POW POW POW POW. MG Perez was one of the hosts as a I remember. I tried to no avail every afternoon!! I remember the consolation prize was usually a six pack of A&W root beer! Don't remember what you won, or how many points you had to get. Great memories!!
My biggest memory of Channel 39 as a kid was my mom yelling at me to make sure I turned the TV knob one station at a time between Channel 26 and Channel 39. It took 13 clicks (and about 30 seconds) to change from Channel 26 to Channel 39. Ugh!
I have this clear memory of a commercial where a Flintstones cel was drawn and painted (fast motion) and Classical Gas was the music. This would have been late 1970's or early 1980's. I think it was for Channel 39. Anyone remember this?
Who remembers the commercial that featured a guy dressed like a pimp with his"ladies"modeling "all the finest leather.."? 1990's commercial.... The store was called Leather Ling Is Ticket King...it was located off 1403 wheeler downtown houston area.... been looking for that advertisement ever since 1996 when the vhs copy I had vanished... missing....
That's cool. I remember your band. I would just love to get some old video of the show. But, it seems nobody knows how to get it. I guess it wasn't important enough to archive. lol
Where is Helen Sanders?...why wasn't she in the video? What about Clarice Studevant? Michael Harris and Navarro Daniels? There were African-Americans on the air at 39....remember?
I am looking for information or video on a show that was aired in about 1967. It was a teen dance show called "It" It featured Neal Ford & the Fanatics and B.J. Thomas on a regular basis. Does anyone remember this or have any information? I was one of the dancers on the show and would love to show my grandkids (and greatgrandkids!)
Do you have any Charlie Scott on channel 39. late seventies to early 80s I think. My wife thought he was wonderful. I thought he was OK and a up and comer. Thanks for the memories. Things were nicer in those days. Simple and without conflict. Just real people reporting whats happening.
Thank you so much for posting this! my grandmother is Kuulani.. (3:11)
Not to be disrespectful, but your Grandmama she was fine!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
She was beautiful!

There was a Mary K Issacs Fan Club at Texas A&M University.
I remember growing up watching Channel 39-good memories...especially the wrestling!
I grew up in NE Houston and I remember channel 39. Especially Don Mahoney and Jenna Clair and the cartoons! Great video.
I was in a band that had a show on 39 called "Jammin' with Jambeaux"
My brother was in a band, too. I remember this show.

Jack Gibbs, the boy at 9:57, handled himself very well. Wonder if he pursued this as a career.

As a young boy I had such a crush on Nancy Paul
looks like they used GE PE-350 cameras....
Wow! They said 'Merry Christmas'!!
KHTV is a much better call letter than KIAH.
WHAT? No Harold Gunn? How dare you.
Captain Harold's Theater of the Sky was on Channel 26 if memory serves, GREAT show, loved the skit between movies.
