About 15 years ago, I have started to build exactly the same bird. When I lost temporarly interest in it, I have stored it in the attic. Recently, I've decided to continue the building... Mice have discovered it and found it quid tasty, even glued, painted surfaces had suffered. So my plane is dead before even the maiden flight. I 'm happy to see yours has not the same treatment as mine :-)
Great job on this plane! I have a Hellcat from Guillows Giant Scale series that I seem now destined to build as R/C. Glad to see other people still enjoy Guillows planes as much as I do! I used to build the beginner models all the time as a kid. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the reply. Was planning full 4 channel, but I think I may have a weight problem already. Also flying at altitude already! Hmmm.... Will post vid when I'm done! Regards
@ssgtakeo You probably know this, but they made a whole bunch of these conversions for the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" They looked rather odd on the (supposed) carrier deck, sitting so low compared to the actual Zero on its tall landing gear. The overall effect was pretty good, though, as were the Vultee conversions.
Cool- I've done U/C and free flight with Guillows kits. I bought a Stuka- that will be electric R/C- I'll use the 350 geared motor from a GWS Zero that got demolished!
The airplane kit is $32.00, and on the electronics one spends anywhere from $300 to $1000. The real expense (and half the joy) comes from the hours and hours, and hours, that one can put into building them. Of course, you can always buy a Ready-to-Fly R/C airplane for about $100 these days! Turning a Guillows model into a functional R/C airplane that flies well is not an easy task.
@ssgtakeo I think I recall hearing that, but as you know, it's not the plane filmed in this vid. And the airshow example has the short legs and round, leading edge wheel wells of a Harvard/AT-6, so I thought it slightly amusing that both examples, well, weren't! 8-) There are a number of one-of-a-kind planes at the Smith' and I wouldn't mind a visit there at all, plane buff that I am...
thanks for answering ive done some guillow rc conversions but none of them looked this good, right now im working on a dare hobbies fokker dr1 lokks good so far
yeah, i think if you are a gram freak, you could get it flying (barely) on 1S. tho twin 2S 5grams BL outrunners should be real easy. i think an ar6400 brick could work on th rudder and elevator, just use biggger servos for the wings.

@NVanWendy The smithsonian does have a real A6M. Hangs right above the P-51 in the WWII gallery.
Gorgeous , absolutely!
Hi There,
Looks fantastic!
Can I ask what gear you used?
I am building a Guillows Spitfire of the same range.
Well done! I have all the hardware needed to make one as well so maybe I will start.
I am trying to do the same thing with the same kit. THX for the video. What motor did you use?

beautiful work, i have that kit, and you have inspired me
did you use contest balsa or the stuff that comes with the kit?
@carmium Yeah the airshow version is clearly a converted T6.
@Hollyfathi are you use your own cower or zou get cover in the kit?
sorry for my bad english.
Very nice... I love it. What did you use to cover it?

How did you round the leading edge of the wing? im about to finish mine and need some pointers

how you get the kamikaze plane
Not to be that guy, but I think most WWII buffs and War Thunder players would agree that most of the photos in the intro were actually of N1K2's.
planes of fame in chino California has the only flying zero in the world
Second airplane at start is not a zero..
