Yeah, that's the classic RPG approach: just one very big dungeon where all the action takes place (it's a bit like Temple of Elemental Evil, where the Temple itself clearly is the main attraction).
Yes, and it's nice that the extra bit of information is actually useful, since it provides important feedback on (for example) whether the type of attack (swift, lunge, precision etc.) you used was a good choice against that particular enemy.
My wife just picked this up for me yesterday and I'm thrilled with it. I'd have to say the coolest thing of all is that you have so many options on how to spend your experience points. The multi-class options are nice too, as are the antidotes and healing potions which make this game just a tiny bit less frustrating than Wizardry could be.
Yes, I was actually surprised by the modern style of the (regular) graphics. The gameplay may be classic RPG stuff, but the look and feel of the game is as fresh as any other DS title released this year.
Music pieces are awesome, Vocal part of the battle theme reminds me of Persona 2: EP a bit. And to instantwolf: anime and Dark Spire are irrelevant to each other.
Don't forget Erian Odyssey I & II if you need more excuses to pick up a DS, as those games are also Wizardry-style dungeon crawlers (though you'll have to be able to tolerate some annoyingly cutesy anime-like graphics in order to enjoy the game). Old school RPGs with Japanese-style graphics seem to be very popular these days; even the PSP has got a traditional first person, multi-character dungeon crawler in the form of Class of Heroes (also from Atlus)...

I guess you could always listen to the 8-bit half of the soundtrack CD which ships with Dark Spire while playing the game... ;)

Too hard for its own good... And I'm a veteran of these sorts.
Is it possible to delay more the messages? They go away too fast and if you can't, I better not bother with getting this game.
