- Ukraine claims it has killed the commander of Russia's Black Sea fleet in an attack using British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has also confirmed that US Abrams tanks have now arrived in Ukraine, as Kyiv's forces continue their hunt for a decisive breakthrough in the south.

@@indybruining it was developed by Matra and British Aerospace. The French call it SCALP-EG and we Brits call it Stormshadow. The orcs call it "Death from above."

I hope the British and French are ramping up production on these. Because Ukraine will need more and it wouldn't hurt for the UK and France to increase their stockpiles of these too.
Both the UK ,and France are giving away to Ukraine all of their older stockpiles, because the future cruise missile (another British/French colaberation, and I must admit I am beginning to like these collaberations between our countries more and more) is due to come online earlier because of the Ukraine war. Germany is considering sending soem of it's upgraded versions as well, though as always they seem to be prevaricating as normal!!
@@thetruthhurts7675 I wouldn't be to hard on Germany because they've really stepped up on military aid lately. Also their is no reason for Germany to deliver the Taurus until Ukraine is out of storm shadows/scalps. It's more important for Ukraine to have a steady supply of weapons instead of warehouses full of munition. Because last year when Russia hit that munitions warehouse in Ukraine, it looked like a nuclear blast. With the size of that blast their is no telling how much was lost. So the munitions are safer in nato countries until Ukraine runs low. Also the GLSDBS are almost ready for delivery and they will be plentiful.
@@philchristmas4071 Taurus being there now would remove the gap once StSh/SCALP tapers off. Same with JASSM from the US being needed. The "big blast" you mention was decades old rocket fuel in storage not munitions.

Storm shadow is coming tothe end of it's predicted life, though proving much more effective than either France or the UK could hope for it to be at evading Russian anti missile and anti aircraft systems. Perseus Might have this range the French/British future cruise missile system. However the storm shadow distance is because the USA couldn't share their tomahawk systems information because of none proliferation rules, even to their closest allies.

ATACMS are a no brainer and it's baffling why they haven't been provided long before now. They are being replaced as well and will probably be decommissioned in the future anyway.
Thank you for the NO brainer perspective. The brained perspective realizes the replacements are not on hand yet thus it is foolish to get rid of the ATACMS and doing so comes at a risk of misuse and further escalation dragging the US further into the conflict with Russia. Above all, there is no money available to spare for Ukraine, the US is in a deficit not a surplus and thus any charity is extremely costly to the US tax payers and highly irresponsible.
It is not really needed, the USA can make a more useful contribution by supplying anti-radiation missiles and decoys which Storm Shadow requires and are in short supply. The UK and France have hundreds of Storm Shadows/SCALPS that will be soon scrapped if they are not transferred to Ukraine.
The Russians will have a lot more success taking them out though, not stealthy at all
@@CommonSenserules1981 That's nonsense. For a start, the reason Storm Shadow has been so successful is the tactics they use, not the platform itself. They bombard the air defences with drone and decoys to exhaust them first and they'd do the same thing when using ATACMS. Only difference being they're a LOT faster and maneuverable so they'd probably need less of those other measures.
@@glynnwright1699 There's a bigger range on them and they're a lot faster, plus they're ground launched. They are another level to what has already been provided, that's why the US have been dragging their heels over it. This will be very painful for the russians and they're worried about escalation.

You can see how low the Storm Shadow/Scalp- EG can fly then approaching the target it gains altitude and then comes down on the target , a lot like a Javelin anti tank missile can . This makes it hard to detect on radar and once it gains altitude it's too late . I also think it has anti radar coatings and other anti radar construction .

It could have been a SCALP, however theuy are exactly the same weapon, and Britian has been supplying them for over a month now, whilst the French SCALP, has only just started to arrive. ALL News reports will name it Storm Shadow for that very simple reason.

It's a fact the UK started giving then in greater mass, much earlier, and the UK's inventory is twice the size of Frances, while it was the Brits who made the 'fitting' to the Su-24. So the credit is pretty commonly placed to them as the vast majority will be theirs.
Perhaps if you paid attention, you'd know what was going on. Challenger 2 - first modern(ish) NATO main battle tank in Ukraine. Storm Shadow - blowing up Russians for months now. If we had some Tornados to spare, English jets would now be sticking it to the Russians as we speak. Unfortunately, we do not have Tornadoes to spare, and the Germans are similarly unlikely to have any to give away. This is the only reason for the laggardly provision of modern aircraft. No one else has the balls to hand them over. They all talk about it, but that's it.

Irrelevant. The bit that goes boom, the warhead, is 100% British designed and built on Storm Shadow or SCALP.
UK supplied more, and was the one that figured out the fitting, so it'll usually be attributed.
It said “oi mate imma’ cut ya” before hitting the building.
I'm not bothered if it was from Lille or Dagenham, as long as there's a Russian admiral on the end of it.

They certainly are laying, that was an impressive laying in of a precision UK/France made weapon right on a top Russian target.

*UK paid 10 milions* of the 10 missiles , while Russia paid to repaire the building , few plasterboard, fillers and 3 coats of paints at cost of 10K .

That's hilarious.
Storm Shadow has a two stage 1,000 pound warhead. The first stage is a large shaped charge that can blow a hole in concrete feet thick, the second main stage is programmed to pass through the hole and detonate inside.
There is nothing left of the inside of that building after two Storm Shadow hits. And anyone unlucky enough to be in there had an extremely bad day.
Plus it flies nap of the earth and is low observable. Ukraine fired a couple of them at that building and they both got through the now degraded Russia IADS.

The idea that during a war Russia would Keep their HQ in a building right on the coast rather than in some bunker is quite ridiculous. Probably based on the fact that Ukraine keeps its mercenaries in hotels in Odessa that get hit. Ukraine's senior military is much more secretive

You're assuming Russian command is competent which clearly they are not.
Russia from the start of this war has shown a lack of tactical and strategic awareness that has cost the lives of many of its top commanders. Who often give their locations away through careless use of communications.
It is highly likely that Russia did in fact lose some of its top commanders in that attack.
Why would Ukraine have mercenaries in odessa? Its miles away from the front and nothing to look at but sea.

russian Generals die because they fight on the front lines, not because the headquarters are on the coast in builidings advertised as Navy HQ in the yellow pages.
I guess that is why Ukraine took back 6000 sq km and then about an other 1000 sq km leaving that metric with Russia 20k to 7k in the lead.
I think you can't tell the difference between "Russia's incompetence strategy" and "sure Ukraine is totally overwhelmed in men, training, weapons and above all shells, but The Can Win because Russia is incompetent.)
