Man, I was just thinking this. The games were pretty up tempo and you saw a variety of offense from the players, not just step back 3's and euro steps. Watching this is crazy to see even a considered regular center like Bill Cartwright had better post up moves than most of today's Centers in the league.

I no longer watch regular season games or any playoffs games. I remember when you knew the starting line up on all teams, now it's a who's who's with knowing minimal players. Things I dont remember ever seeing as a teen in the 90's that happened in this game. Young Vlade dunking on people😂, Paxson going coast to coast with speed for lay up and creating once off the bounce. OBSERVATIONS: Pippen looks as good as Jordan at times, yet Jordan still feels a cut above the rest. Even in how MJ moves its amazing! Pippen can't guard Worthy, but Worthy can't keep up with Pip.
Magic IMO is better than Lebron. The difference is Magic for such a high usage rate releases the ball the minute someone is open unless he's posting up. All Lakers are engaged because of this. Lebron's teams tend to lack movement because he will hold the ball for so long, and pass at the tail end of the shot clock. I need to go back and watch prime Lebron to refresh but it wasnt that long ago, I remember thinking he holds the ball too long and his body language was bad for team morale. Magic's team is in sync with him 100%.

Lakers and Bulls were 100% healthy here. They split in the 1990-1991 regular season. In the game at The Forum in LA, the Lakers still won with Magic leaving the game early with a concussion. In The 1991 Finals, the 4-1 final outcome is a bit deceiving. The Lakers took game one in Chicago, and two out of the three games in LA were close, with one going into overtime. Instead of Worthy and Scott being out with injuries by the end of The 91 Finals, if instead it were reversed with Pippin and Paxson being out… Lakers FOR SURE would’ve won! This would’ve given Magic 6 rings (in only 12 seasons), and Jordan 5 rings

MJ and Pippen are two of the best athletes the NBA have seen. Not an ounce of fat. A nightmare as perimeter defenders. You wont have your Steph Curry jacking 8 threes on any of them. First attempt is a turnover and fast break.

  • @edkiely2712
    @edkiely2712 2 місяці тому +15

Magic had a grip of turnovers and deflected passes in this game. This game was a microcosm of the first 3 games of the '91 Finals when both teams were basically healthy. In this game, the Lakers were down 2 or 3 with about a minute-and-a-half left in the third. When Dunleavy brought him back in the 4th, the Lakers were down around 11pts.
As with the finals, anytime Magic went to the bench, their guards were incapable of handling the Bulls fierce trapping defense and getting them into their half-court offense in time. They would consistently have to run a play with 10-12 seconds on the shot clock, or simply have to rush and jack a bad shot up.
Jerry West made a superb acquisition in Sedale Threatt in the off-season that summer to address this flaw. Threatt could play the #1 and the #2 effectively and, could score in bunches. The two years he spent with the Lakers were arguably his best! Of course, with Magic retired due to HIV, the Lakers were not going to make another finals run in '91-'92!

      💯💯💯 love the comment!
The 92 lakers are one of the biggest what ifs teams to me
Lakers would have been able to return to showtime style of play wise
Magic was still in his prime and STILL getting better
Bulls don’t win 6 if magic hadn’t been forced to retire

The addition of Threatt would have meant at minimum of a Finals appearance in 1992 if all the rest of the Lakers are back and healthy.

80's and 90's to the middle of the 2000's Basketball was still the game and Magic moments was done... I don't want to say anything more about it, but I was once a child and I remember these moments, the last bulls finals, it's sad but basketball has lost its former glory.

I enjoyed it as though it was happening in real-time, smh. today's NBA is a joke everybody wants to shoot 3's no defense, no physicality... it's a complete joke!

So sad we didn’t get to see magic for a few years. Larry and Isaiah too. Their bodies broke down.

Is it me, or just watching this game make everything seem so much more fast-paced? And the game was so much more physical back then, too. I watch these games as a little kid… But of course, I never realized how truly athletic, gifted, and special all these players really were.I know I am a little biased, but it makes today’s NBA seem rather boring. And the defense - my gosh! The defense was almost as exciting as the offense. And this just isn’t the case with today’s game. Everything is designed to benefit the offense, because the thinking is that this is where all the action is.

Notes: Worthy wearing Adidas after storied career on New Balance. New coach and several new players for the Lakers and they would make it to the finals the following spring against this same Bulls team. You can see here that Pippen and Grant have arrived by this juncture. Mike is Mike - but with the supporting cast now the Bulls are the premier team in the East.

20:52 Nvm the airball, how tf did he get that off?! It's this sort of creativity and shot-creation that I've never seen matched by anyone except Kyrie. And then Perkins with the lightning quick block with his left hand and the ensuing battle down low to corral the board and then to block Livingston. Just great, effort-full basketball.

The offensive foul at 4:37 is hilarious in the context of today's game. It's why you need to watch the film. What would Giannis do if THIS is an offensive foul? Would be interesting to see. I say that not to denigrate, but because he's a smart player who would adjust and thus it would be interesting.
Like, maybe instead of lowering his shoulder now he sort of swoops in or comes up with some other type of shot. Giannis would be a different player under this ruleset. But he would still be Giannis.
