- In Charles Thompson's interview with the ROK Podcast, he delves into the highs and lows of his athletic career and personal life. Thompson's journey began with a significant decision to pursue his dream of playing for the University of Oklahoma Sooners, even though he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of high school. This choice led him to become a prominent figure in college football.
Thompson's rise at Oklahoma was marked by his impressive performances on the field, but his career took a dramatic turn when he was arrested by an undercover FBI agent for selling cocaine. This incident led to his fall from grace and a high-profile cover story on Sports Illustrated, which showcased the stark contrast between his promising career and his legal troubles.
After serving time in prison, Thompson sought redemption through football. He enrolled at Central State University in Ohio, where he contributed to the team’s victory in the NAIA national championship, showcasing his resilience and determination to overcome past mistakes.
Thompson's football career continued with stints in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and NFL Europe. He shared various stories from his time in these leagues, highlighting both the challenges and unique experiences of playing football internationally.
Beyond his athletic endeavors, Thompson has made a significant impact by giving back to the community. He has become a coach, mentor, and motivational speaker, traveling across the country to inspire others with his story of redemption and perseverance. His work aims to guide young athletes and individuals facing adversity, helping them to navigate their paths with the wisdom gained from his own experiences.

I was hoping SL would come to OU great high school player👍
Grew up in South Carolina during the 80s. There was no cable, just 3 channels. Watching Oklahoma was must see tv. Became an OU fan in high school and loved Charles Thompson. To us at the time, he was the it guy. We were all wearing Hunta Yo headbands around our necks. Good times! I'm so glad he is who he is today. Great human being and father.
I think Kelly Phelps was a QB and punt returner.
I was there when CT won game in Stillwater great game and run for score 🏈

Great interview. As a kid from Lawton. It was great to hear the stories. Even the legend Quinn Grovey. If you are from Lawton you know Quinn Grovey. But CT is a legend. We looked up to him. We are still proud to call him one of our L town legends.
Yeah I think he’d love to hear that!!

Small world. I grew up with Birdow. Lived across the street from him, and played ball together from elementary on up. Dude was a freak athlete even back then. My favorite person to throw a pass to lol. We played for Garfield and the boys club.
Yeah man Birdow was my guy! Funniest dude ever. He was my roommate in college as well. Talk about sleepless nights 😂😂. Comedy show every night.
Jermaine Birdow came out of the wound swole. Freak Athlete.
