    Not my favourite keyboard sound ever, but definitely very distinctive. You know it's Dream Theater when you hear it.

    I can't afford a Kronos, a Kurzweil nor a OASYS, that's why I have a Wavestation EX (joystick and complex wave sequences) and a JP8000 (semi analog waves and a ribbon) so I can create almost similar sounds and control them in real-time
    Not the same quality but at least 80%, if one is familiar with lead sounds and forms.
    It's all a matter of working the sounds and programming skills, if you want sounds like these you gotta spend hours experimenting, that's what I love in the synth universe.

    You can find that sound on Korg keyboards ready with the exact same effects. For example, for Korg Krome, it's the "Rock Lead" IIRC. So it's not a custom sound 😄

    Didn't explain anything really, just what the controls do. It would've been more interesting to see what waveforms he uses, effects, and how exactly he sets up the button to change the harmonics.

    ** looks at his 2 wheels, switches too far away from them, and no ribbon ** ...damn, I wish I at least had a joystick!

    ♥♥♥♥♥♥I have always wondered how he got the harmonic feedback sound. It's fuckin awesome. I love his playing and phrasing, he's phenomenal really. SO expressive, and guitar-like, thank you for explaining. ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS wanted to know. Very very cool.

    The first comments on this video saying Rudess only plays fast, and has no feeling are absolutely absurd... I've never heard a keyboard player play with more feeling and more technicality in playing than him. When your doing a technical demo and your doing muscle memory scale runs its very hard to show emotion...
    If you're not a Rudess fan because he plays fast when he's soloing then i certainly hope you're not a fan of Yngwie Malmsteen who only plays fast, and when he tries to play slow he feels awkward and it sounds horrid so he switches to doing trills instead of bends just to have his fingers moving. Not to mention the copy and pasting songs since the 80's lol Went off topic but the point was made.

    • @szymonnowak9268
      @szymonnowak9268 10 років тому +4

      Jordan is one of the best. But Keith Emerson is absolutely the top. If you think Rudess has best feeling and technique that you ever heard, try listining to Emerson ^^ Im not saying it to prove that Rudess is lame, cause he is not! He is one of the best, as I said.

    • @szymonnowak9268
      @szymonnowak9268 10 років тому +2

      ***** As well as THE Emerson and THE Rudess (^^) he is one of the gods. Absolutely. Anyway in my humble opinion, Emerson is a total genius and visionery. His compositions are so unique, that a few would even try to compare with.

    • @snuppssynthchannel
      @snuppssynthchannel 7 років тому +2

      Szymon Nowak Emerson is the greatest keyboardist because he was also the greatest pioneer, and was Jordans biggest inspiration. Emerson was also the most gifted composer in progressive rock history.

      Sadly there are narrow minded people among the comments, and clearly this was just two minutes of his abilities, the idiots and naysayers have no comprehension of the breadth of Rudess's abilities and talents. So when these idiots in the comments type things, the world gets to see their idiocy.

  • @ThunderDashHub
    @ThunderDashHub 8 років тому +1

    Ok. I have everything programmed...except the feedback tones...this is where I'm struggling and I hope there's someone who could help with this, specifically, finding the sound responsible for the feedback tones, and then programming them to the upward and downward motions of the joystick.

    I don't think Rudess has a "lack of feel" in his playing at all. I really feel he has a lot of talent. As a personal preference, though, I liked that classical sound that Kevin Moore brought to the band. In the days when he was their keyboardist, DT's sound had a lot of classical music root to it, and I think that's probably why I like their earlier days the most.. though I really loved the newest one almost more than the original two LaBrie albums hah

    I never understood why someone would waste their time going for electric guitar sounds on a synth this is why we have guitars I got into the synth to stretch out beyond the sounds of other instruments I wouldn't like a synth if it was just designed to sound like natural instruments like horns flutes guitars and pianos that was the original idea although I think the synth would go much farther if people created sounds that showcased the synthesizer as an instrument in its own right I think it's totally ridiculous that anybody should spend their time learning guitar only to sound like other players they should develop their own unique voice this is what I'm saying about the synth everybody's doing everything on the synth but synth sounds the whole concept of a synth is an innovation Jordan and Derek might be technically impressive artists but Berkeley grads are a dime a dozen Eddie Van Halen took the guitar and made it sound like things Beyond other instruments we know of the synth world is starving for innovative players the synth has so much to offer leave guitar solos to guitarists leave piano parts for pianists leave singing parts for singers you idiots be able to tell people you really play synthesizer music has become a mimic world not only in the pop scene I play the synthesizer to get unworldly sounds it's like a guy going to Berkeley College and coming out sounding exactly like Eric Johnson very unimpressive musician should have their own voices and so should their instruments it's like waiting for a great president to come along and fix this country same thing applies with music we need new people with new ideas give synths artists people to look forward to not hey I can shred like a guitarist on the synth
