Some nice looking plants there. Alas my 1 year old N. villosa has spent several months getting smaller and when I braved up to unpot it found the whole base rotten. Once all the rotten area was removed- nothing left! My previous villosa had grown well for 14 years. But I still lost it eventually! Tricky old plants :)
14 years! That must have been some plant! I'd love to see some photos! I am totally worried about these Vilosa as well. Rooting them is my particular worry. The one from my last order died shortly after receiving it, it turned black from a leaf node and the black spread up and then down. So I thought id try again but this time they came in Tiny! And so fresh out of TC they didn't have roots, just a green stem. Any tips for these little guys would be much appreciated seen you have 14 years experience with them. They get 44F nights and 78F max days. 12 hour light cycle. 70% peritle mix and I've only gave them a couple small drinks of Deionized water since I've got them, the moss is still moist to the touch so I haven't rewatered.
awesome video! I have been growing orchids and hardy carniv. plants for about 15 or so years now and have just gotten into Nepenthes about 2 + years ago. I currently have N. bicalcarata, N. Robcantleyi , N. vetchii and N. truncata and they have done well and put on a lot of size in the last 2 or so years. I just (about a week and a half ago) got two new Nepenthes one is N. Jamban and it is about 1 1/2 inches across and is doing great so far hasn't missed a beat. However the other plant and it is my most expensive for size plant I have ever gotten is N. edwardsiana that is MAYBE 1/4th of an inch. it came with 4 leaves - three very small pitchers and another leaf coming out (so a total of 4 full leaves, 3 traps and a new leaf coming out). I am keeping it bagged right now for increased humidity like you talked about but almost over night 2 of the small pitchers turned black and the 3rd picture the top of it is black) now a few days later one of the older leaves has turned black (so I have went from having 4 full leaves and a partial - 2 full leaves a partial trap and a new leaf that seems to be growing so from 4 1/2 leaves down to 2 1/2 leaves). (I am hoping the early losses were from the shock of transport). I have read that this plant likes to be on the dryer side for nepenthes but it being so small I am scared to let it dry out so do you think I may be keeping it too wet? I am hoping the initial shock is why the first traps and leaves turned black but I don't know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I am growing it under lights by the way and the temp in the room is averaging 70 - 75 F during day and 60 - 65F at night) it does seem like the new leaf is beginning to grow so maybe it is pulling through.
How exciting Brad - what a haul you got there. On your nepenthes I like this tall skinny scrappy ones especially the second one you showed can't remember the names there so hard to pronounce looking forward to see them grow with you ;) anticipating some pics of that bundle of joy you have ;)
You must be earning a nice lot of money in order to buy all of those (expensive!) plants! :Oo Feeling kinda envy yeah but Im happy for you. Looking forward how they will start growing. :-)
Hey Brad, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it roughly cost to just make the new greenhouse. I'm not including foggers and generators and things like that. Also, could I make a greenhouse just like that but for complex paphiopedilums and things with similar needs. What would i have to do modification-wise to your plans? Thanks.
The third heli in the square pot is basically the missing link between sarrs and helis, it has no nectar spoon but where it should have one there's a slight pitcher lid
Brad, where is a website where you can get heliamphora? Its really hard to find them, and they are out of stock when I find somewhere that has them. Help plz.
You mentioned you preordered some of these plants, did you need to call Wistuba to do this? I was just looking at there website, and didn't see a pre-order option, so I am just curious how you did this?
I'm so jealous, what a nice collection of plants!!!! Did you ever order plants from Europe? I want to order some from either carnivoria.eu or carniplants.eu, but I'm afraid if they are gonna to arrive safe (if they arrive) and the import permissions.
Ive looked at their websites and I would consider ordering from there but to make it worth it (cost wise) i need to order a lot of plants. buying all the the permits, shipping and such cost a lot. If they had something I couldn't live without I'd do it!
In my opinion the Edwardsiana is the coolest looking nepenthes I've ever seen. They trump the hamata's easy. The Rajah and Sarracenioides are extremely hard to get a hold of. You def did this order right like you said, very impressive.
I did a report in these a few years ago. These are the most amazing plants to me! Just sucks cuz they require a LOT to sustain them.
Cool. Can't wait to see em grown up.
me too!
Awesome update Brad thank you for sharing have a blessed week
thanks linda

I can't wait until they get growing to!
Didn't realized that is is so difficult to order from other places around the world.. i think im lucky to live in germany... nice order. Good luck!
you already have a boy but it looks like you can't get enough of them :) I am sure all your new plants will be more than fine in their new home.
hope so, I really hope so!
*Awesome* Video Brad!

thanks Eric!

I know the names are the hardest part! haha, can't wait until they are bigger.

Hi, how about your villosa. it doesn't look so well in that size and quality.
In my opinion the Edwardsiana is the coolest looking nepenthes I've ever seen. They trump the hamata's easy. The Rajah and Sarracenioides are extremely hard to get a hold of. You def did this order right like you said, very impressive.
