As part of it's 50th anniversary celebrations, the National Railway Museum ran it's heritage Redhen railcars on shuttle trips from the museum to Adelaide over the weekend of 30/11 - 1/12/2013.
Yeah because the do all the restorations at NRM in house, those are train fans that work as volunteers. I did work experience there and yeah some those volunteers really love their trains. The part that amazes me is how they repaired that line at Jackets Station, i helped rebuild the platform im guessing later work experience guys worked on the line to get it prepared. The line was rough im surprised it actually got repaired as none the people doing Work Experience never really wanted to do anything lol. I also replaced 12 sleepers on that corner where Bub (small blue steamer) was going around the corner. Man there was some lazy people there, i actually stayed there longer then i needed as i would have rather worked there for a job then back into boring metal fabrication.
Nice to hear from someone who actually made a contribution to the restoration of the track and facilities. You can be proud of the effort you put in. Well done!
Very fond memories of primary school excursions from Seaton Park Station on the Red Hens. Would love to take ride in one now.
Same here.. went to Seaton Park as well and rode these lovely trains to.. cheers..
They look to be in vastly better condition now (or at least in 2013) than when they were in service in the SAR days.
