I kinda called it too when he reacted to Blue Sky making a fifth "Ice Age" at the end of his "Rio 2" review. I don't know how "Ice Age: Continental Drift" missed the Seal of Garbage, though.
Literally the only reason I even watched this movie was because Simon Pegg is in it and I absolutely love him. But even a comedic genius couldn't save a movie with writing this terrible. The only good thing about this movie is that it was SO BAD that now there's no way I will put myself through the next one, even if they cast twenty Simon Peggs.
Considering the series is now the new Land Before Time with all the sequels and pre-hostiric period it would have been very fitting if Bluth was involved.
It would've never taken off like it has now. Don Bluth takes all of his films seriously and prefers to make his stories more dramatic and down to earth than be more comedic.. Ice Age came out only a year after Shrek which launched the popularity of animated comedies. Ice Age would also likely be hand drawn and in the 2000s cgi was dominating. Let's be glad Bluth retired because Ice Age would have been another Titan A.E.
"A message to Blue Sky Studios" ...and FOX. And I TOTALLY knew the Ice Age series would eventually get it's first Seal Of Garbage. Honestly though, if Blue Sky still loves their Ice Age franchise so much, the LEAST they could do is just have Scrat remain as their mascot and *that's it.*
Jack Bointon Yes, Fox is pretty much the reason why Ice Age is still alive, but actually though, one of the directors stated that they still have ideas for more Ice Age movies. In my opinion, if the series is to continue, the story arc should end in *this* movie, and Blue Sky should focus on *prequels* if they ever hope to return the franchise to form. My idea would be looking into the backstory of Manny, giving a full-on visual explanation of what's happened with him and his childhood family. I could be wrong, though.
What's so frustrating about Manny here is that at the end of the fourth film he lets Peaches do whatever she wants, only to resort back to keeping her from seeing the world and act even worse in this movie than at the start of the fourth. Talk about sheer reversion.
I always loved Ice Age as a kid. But never have I imagined that in the future, my mom would ask me several if I wanted to watched Ice Age 5 and my immediate answer would be, "No!" It's sad. Scrat was my childhood character and now they made him a complete mess. Just let the sequels die. Please.
+JONATHAN PINZON I say that the Peanuts team up with the franchise to finally destroy the Red Baron once and for all! Because I hate when a villain reveals to have survived his defeat. *cough* Dr. Weil *cough*.
Ice Age, a franchise that started with a nice story about a group of animals bonding while trying to save a little child, has now turned into an apocalyptic sci-fi action/romantic comedy hybrid that has introduced dinosaurs, Pirates, and immortality granted by magnets into its lore. I would say that Blue Sky jumped the shark but no. At this point, they are playing hop scotch on the shark!
Yeah, I'm sick of this franchise too, especially since ever since the third one, it's just been a slew of Loony Tunes-style jokes with somewhat serious stories thrown in. If they ever make a sixth one, which they most likely will, the only way I could see it being necessary is if they have the crew reunite with the human they saved from the first one. Seriously, we haven't seen in a human in this franchise since the first one. Where did they all go?

I have an idea for the sixth one. They should just relive the events of first Ice Age movie and keep the main characters. What if they find another human baby and return it to his/her parents? Wouldn't that be cool if Blue Sky thought about it?
In fact better yet, the herd reunites with the humans with most of the herd meeting them for the first time especially Roshan who is now an adult. They should also add those emotional moments the first movie had but retain it’s humor and tone down the insanity.

Anyone remember when Ice Age was about these three prehistoric creatures traveling the world to help bring a baby back to Neanderthal-like humans? Remember when there weren't aliens in the Ice Age, and the world in the movie made a bit of sense, albeit in a bit of a cartoony way? Good times. Gooooooood times.
Also, what is up with all the modern day references in this movie? Nothing in a movie like this is more distracting than weddings, statues of liberty, bars, Mariachi bands, and hashtags.
While Buck lost some of his more rounded out character portrayols in Ice Age 3, I still think he was the best character in this film, plus Simon Pegg is a riot to listen to. Also, I like to think that Scrat is god in animal form who doesn't have a grasp in how to behave like an animal properly
The asteroid would not only destroy the reputation of the Ice Age franchise, it would also go and destroy EVERYTHING in its path. Not just the Ice Age reputation, but rather, the ENTIRE animation studio as well, known as Blue Sky Studios. Along with ALL of it’s future projects.
I hope this won't be true, but here's what Wikipedia has: "On the possibility of a potential sequel, in June 2016 Galen T. Chu, co-director of the film, stated that there were some ideas for the next and sixth installment." Please don't make a sixth film Blue Sky, we had enough of this franchise.
Animat reviewing the last Blue Sky movie in 2015-“after so many grand adventures fighting nites and dragons and stuff it’s nice to finally just relax and enjoy something simple” Animat reviewing this one in 2016-“you may argue they have already jumped the shark along time ago with iver the third or forth film but this is just furter evidence”(by the way yes that’s the only thing I could think of)how Blue Sky can go from simple to anything but simple in one year
This is my ranking of all of the Ice Age movies! #6. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild #5. Ice Age: Collison Course #4. Ice Age: Continental Drift #3. Ice Age: The Meltdown #2. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs #1. Ice Age
Instead of that pathetic excuse of a final movie we got, they could have brought the humans back and have them hunt down the heroes, when they are about to kill Mannys second family, their leader stops them and helps the heroes get away, revealing it was the baby human from the first time and he remembered them. Rounding the story up. Instead, spaceships and meteors I guess...
such a shame because the animation of this movie is béautifull. that cave with gems is gorgeous and the colors are very atmospherical! It's just so wrong this is used for an ige age movie! completely agree.
Least with the 3rd and 2nd ones they didn't relay on pop culture...oh god the pop culture references in 4 and5 make me cry. To be honest they'd be better off re-animating the first as it needs a touch up instead of--THAT ABOMINATION THAT WAS ANNOUNCED!

the thing that i don't get is how the animals live. The first movie was actually realistic. It had the different animals living in packs, and generally in a natural way. Now the ANIMALS have weddings, parties, cristmas and even night bars. It makes no sense to me.

Ice Age: Meltdown: 2nd Favorite and just as good as the first film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Best one in the franchise tbh! :D Ice Age CD: ok but could have been better Ice Age: CC: Decent but could have done better. we already know why I'm watching this anyway. (Buck, Granny, and Scrat were the only characters to get a laugh out of me tbh)
This film actually came out earlier in Colombia when I was there, and the bunch of people at movies there lining up with kids to see this movie haunts me (even one of my teachers there were planning to see this if I didn't give her the heads up) It sad Ice Age has gone this far bottom.
Yeah, in all honesty, the "sequels" - starting with Meltdown - feel like a stealth 'soft reboot' becos nothing meaningful - the humans especially, Manny's grief, the reminder of Diego's pack, the necklace Runar gives to Manny - carries over into the sequels. IA1 was/is a dramedy. Its "sequels" are tonally off comedies that barely even try to pay homage to the "One that Started It All" and as a BIG Ice Age fan (of IA1 in particular) I have always found this very sucky. :(
WAIT THERE'S A FIFTH ONE?! Also according to the comment section THERE'S GOING TO BE A SIXTH ONE?! I remember a long time ago when I saw the first Ice Age on TV and was like "Ok cool" and never watched any of the others...Fox stop beating a dead horse
Five Nights at Freddy's has a similar problem. Unlike Ice Age, FNAF 5 just cancelled stuff that the previous FNAF told. FNAF story was completed since the fourth FNAF.
I know what they should do for Shrek 5: Pinocchio becomes a real boy at last, but with another thing to go along with it: superpowers. That's right. Pinocchio turns into a superhero unexpectedly, and Shrek, Donkey and him have to go find where, why and how he got those shocking powers. He's only a puppet at the beginning though.
I admit to liking the fourth one. but this is just a clear insight into what the people who worked on this one were thinking. "another ice age movie. yep. let's just have some fun with this one and hope it tanks"- blue sky employees.
The best part of this review was his talk on The Animation. It's great to hear that even in the face of such nastiness, Blue Sky's animation team can still work at their best.
Ice Age is the 1st movie I remember EVER watching so I will always love the franchise as a whole. I adore the first two films. I liked three and four. I can agree that five was really bad.
10:07-10:15 And thanks to the lesser box office results of this film, the main film series (not counting the Disney+ Buck Wild spin-off film) had been putting to rest, until over a decade later on December 18, 2026 when Ice Age 6 will officially be released (and now under Disney).
9:16-9:30 OMG! That statement might have actually aged very well now that Blue Sky is officially closing down... 😮 If you think about it, Blue Sky has kinda been struggling financially ever since Ice Age 5! What a shame...
I actually really like every Ice Age movie, including this one. Don't get me wrong, the series has completely fallen from grace. But I have to admit that the repeated idea of "let's see how ridiculous and stupid we can get" with each film is entertaining. Yes, the movie is dumb, but at least it owns it. I'll take a mindless movie with stupid characters over some pretentious garbage any day
That movie had good in it considering some of the creator's family took charge of the film! To think 2015 with Peanuts had them going good and then 2016 comes, bam they make another Ice Age film! Why?!
It's mostly due to the Schultz family forcing Blue Sky to meet a set standard of no pop culture and supervised the script writing process so the film wouldn't be shit.
If all of you're me that Ice Age 5 as the worst one ever made, then take a look at the first movie. The first movie has a lot of easter eggs onto that. Sure it has an amount of good jokes, but they didn't know that this symbolizes that they're planning over more sequels. Then secondly, this movie as a whole, was the first speculative evolution movie that was ever made in animation. *I'm not even that kidding* This fifth film has an amount of good writing onto it. The animation has a lot of genetic accuracies on to the looks. The character were just hit or miss. Overall this movie shouldn't be a documentary were they can take this too seriously. In my conclusion, I think that this fifth film will take of what they deserved. And there's a chance that there's something had to do with the fifth film, CJ and Friends: The Movie.
Versipellis the rogue Changeling Well, since Fox is now owned by Disney, I don't think we're going to get another Ice Age movie any time soon, despite the fact that a sequel was was hinted at the end of this movie. Like Animat said, BlueSky is tired of this franchise as well, so Phew! 😅

Maybe Ice Age would've been better as a TV series after Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. That would've made more sense than making a couple more movies.
JohnStripedfur
I bet that will be the fate of the sixth.
I heard that blue sky was making a series on either Disney channel or Disney+. So, let’s pray to god it will be good
But tv series didn't make so much money
@@austinreed7343 hi i'm from the 2022! And guess what! They had a plan to make a buck spin off series but it turn into a movie and alot of people said this movie is going to be great 😍, memories come back!, and other dumb hype.....
Everything about this franchise is good!
Still, you have to admit, it had a spectacular ending.
You know, when they all died.
We wish
If Fox wanted more Ice Age, why the crap didn't they make a TV series out of it?!
I know right?!
MonstrousPegasister because moo lah
Well, they sort of did, with those TV specials like the Mammoth Christmas special.
That's one TV series away from becoming the next "The Land Before Time".
Well, they’re doing a TV spin-off focusing on Buck for Disney+.
Ice Age is like the Scary Movie of animation, it had a great first film than went off the rail with the sequels. AND, its still making money.

Ice Age: The Meltdown: 53%
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: 46%

Ice Age: Collision Course: 12%

It's a 3.9 to them. Not too far off from Animat's rating
Um..... The 3rd has a 45% .... not 68%
Probably 0/10
***** Buck was funny. Not in the new one, but Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
I went to see it with my family and let me tell ya, I don't remember the last time I cringed so hard at a movie, I swear I was falling off of my seat. What's worst, at the end, my 12 year old brother asked me "wasn't it awesome?!" and I was like O_o.
well your icon has the right reaction though
lol. i was thinking the same thing!
OMG! Are you my clone? I had the exact same experience!
Fox: Let's make more Ice Age movies until we make it to the tenth film
Blue Sky animators: What?! We don't want to do the same bullcrap over and over!!!
Fox: Get back to work!
Blue Sky animators: We don't want to make more sequels!
Fox: We need more money!
Blue Sky animators: We dont want to be your slaves!
Nat & Andy Honestly I feel bad for them, awesome talent wasted in money grabbing movies like Rio 2 and the Ice Age sequels.
Ice Age already had a happy ending, and Dawn of the Dinosaurs had a decent ending. I never asked for more movies to make me forget my childhood.
Why does the llama have horns... Camelids have never had horns!... Or Upper front teeth!
....Also what happened to the humans?
horse14t one thing I will give this movie credit for, however, is that llamas actually were common in Ice Age North America.

Filthy Frank is perfect for this!

Don't worry though, Pink Guy will find the real Frank in the Rice Fields.

YES!!! I KNEW HE WAS GOING TO GIVE IT THE ANIMAT'S SEAL OF GARBAGE!!!
Aaaand you just spoiled it for me.
Though I kinda already knew that :P
the next seal of garbage will go to storks
If he does just because of the animation being cartoony, I'm OUT!!!!!
I kinda called it too when he reacted to Blue Sky making a fifth "Ice Age" at the end of his "Rio 2" review. I don't know how "Ice Age: Continental Drift" missed the Seal of Garbage, though.
H4L3 Collabs The only redeeming quality in "Storks" will be Key and Peele as the two wolves (in my opinion).
Just remember that, the original Ice age film was going to be directed by the legendary Don Bluth. Think about that
One has to wonder what it would've been like...
... I think my heart just broke.
+Jack Bointon (Jackoasta) hope that tar pits can sink this franchise into the underground from Undertale.
WHY ARE THEY PUTTING THIS GOOD ANIMATION INTO AN ICE AGE FILM?!
Ever seen Rio 2? Dont
remember when this was a nice little comedy about 3 prehistoric animals returning a baby to its tribe? WTF HAPPENED?!?!
What's so frustrating about Manny here is that at the end of the fourth film he lets Peaches do whatever she wants, only to resort back to keeping her from seeing the world and act even worse in this movie than at the start of the fourth. Talk about sheer reversion.
I always loved Ice Age as a kid.
But never have I imagined that in the future, my mom would ask me several if I wanted to watched Ice Age 5 and my immediate answer would be,
"No!"
It's sad. Scrat was my childhood character and now they made him a complete mess.
Just let the sequels die. Please.

Ice Age is the new Land Before Time
Yeah, I'm sick of this franchise too, especially since ever since the third one, it's just been a slew of Loony Tunes-style jokes with somewhat serious stories thrown in.

Maybe
In fact better yet, the herd reunites with the humans with most of the herd meeting them for the first time especially Roshan who is now an adult. They should also add those emotional moments the first movie had but retain it’s humor and tone down the insanity.
Your idea was better than The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
The first Blue Sky Movie to get the Animat Seal of Garbage.....
Good Job Ice Age 5, Good freakin' Job.
With good reason too.

And the only way they didn’t slide into being a repeat offender is because Disney is likely to euthanize them.
And the only one.
Probably the only one too, I'm sure Matt has some criticisms to give the other Blue sky films but at least they're not bad enough to get the seal of garbage.
This is most likely going to be the first Ice Age film I won't go see in theaters.

+Borja Bellver Catalá Yep, same here as well. Go see "The Secret Life of Pets" again instead or "Finding Dory" again, which are both more entertaining than this unnecessary cash-grab sequel.

At least Pegg was able to redeem himself with the movie Luck.
This movie will now be remembered as the true downfall of Blue Sky Studios.
They've now reached the levels of Norm of the North.
NEAR of the Norm of the North levels, if it wasn't for its animation...
I hope this won't be true, but here's what Wikipedia has:

I actually laughed quite a bit watching this... Not in a "Wow that was a funny joke" way but in a "What the hell am I watching kill me now" way.
I don't have the heart to tell them they're already coming up with ideas for the sixth one.
Trust me most of us already figured that based on the overseas revenue.
The 4th one should have been the last one

Disney has bought Blue Sky, and they’re “making changes” to the studio. It is likely Ice Age is doomed.
in blue sky’s defence, some of the employees said they didn’t wanna do anymore ice age films after dawn of the dinosaurs, but fox kept on pushing them to their limit and now we have continental drift and collision course

Ice Age 2 - 4 are serious animation guilty pleasures on my part. I can understand why they’re disliked, but I still kinda enjoy them.
But this....
THIS film is what drove the franchise to extinction for me.

My opinion of the franchise:
Ice Age: Pretty heartwarming and my 3rd favorite.
Ice Age: Meltdown: 2nd Favorite and just as good as the first film
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Best one in the franchise tbh! :D
Ice Age CD: ok but could have been better
Ice Age: CC: Decent but could have done better. we already know why I'm watching this anyway. (Buck, Granny, and Scrat were the only characters to get a laugh out of me tbh)
And if they didn't use hashtag and pop culture jokes for this one, Collision course would have been a little better
But I'm not even gonna lie, I'm lowkey a really big fan of this franchise XD
I agree with your list. The third one is the best of the franchise.
Ice Age: Kill me.
Blue Sky: Later.
This film actually came out earlier in Colombia when I was there, and the bunch of people at movies there lining up with kids to see this movie haunts me (even one of my teachers there were planning to see this if I didn't give her the heads up)
It sad Ice Age has gone this far bottom.
It's like the first ice age is a whole separate movie to the other 4. They don't all belong together
Katie K true that
Yeah, in all honesty, the "sequels" - starting with Meltdown - feel like a stealth 'soft reboot' becos nothing meaningful - the humans especially, Manny's grief, the reminder of Diego's pack, the necklace Runar gives to Manny - carries over into the sequels.
Blue Sky...it's time to STOP!!!
Dawn of the Dinosaurs is my favorite Ice Age film :P
Honestly, Bluesky should leave Fox and go to a company that actually RESPECTS them.
To be fair, Sid was originally having "girlfriend" in the very first Ice Age movie, but it was scrapped.
The fact that Dreamworks is making a Shrek 5 kinda worries me
I know what they should do for Shrek 5: Pinocchio becomes a real boy at last, but with another thing to go along with it: superpowers.
It is like how illumination can not let go of minions
Ice Age is the 1st movie I remember EVER watching so I will always love the franchise as a whole. I adore the first two films. I liked three and four. I can agree that five was really bad.
"Ice Age 6: Cancelled For All Eternity."
10:07-10:15 And thanks to the lesser box office results of this film, the main film series (not counting the Disney+ Buck Wild spin-off film) had been putting to rest, until over a decade later on December 18, 2026 when Ice Age 6 will officially be released (and now under Disney).

If you think about it, Blue Sky has kinda been struggling financially ever since Ice Age 5!
What a shame...
Where else can the animators go after Blue Sky Studios’s extinction.
ice age is the new land before time
I actually really like every Ice Age movie, including this one. Don't get me wrong, the series has completely fallen from grace. But I have to admit that the repeated idea of "let's see how ridiculous and stupid we can get" with each film is entertaining. Yes, the movie is dumb, but at least it owns it. I'll take a mindless movie with stupid characters over some pretentious garbage any day
Don't worry, Mat! The guy you brought in was PERFECT for this whole franchise! In fact, I actually want any "Movie 3" type of review to feature him!
Agreed.
Blue Sky made the new Charlie Brown movie, right? They need to make moar movies like that.
Mr krabs.
Jackie Gonzalez AHHHHHHHH!
+EncyclopediaBro13 I don't get it.
*I'm not even that kidding*
This fifth film has an amount of good writing onto it.
Can this series go extinct please!?
Versipellis the rogue Changeling Well, since Fox is now owned by Disney, I don't think we're going to get another Ice Age movie any time soon, despite the fact that a sequel was was hinted at the end of this movie. Like Animat said, BlueSky is tired of this franchise as well, so Phew! 😅
I think that Blue Sky is going to keep up the Ice Age franchise for a very long time because they make HUGE amounts of money!
NO you are powerless agenst the might of my favrate fianchise and they will exterminate you
This is the second animated space movie of the year that you gave the Animat,s Seal Of Garbage to after Rachet And Clank
It's not the fault of Blue Sky Studios, they were tired of this franchise but FOX demands them more sequels
And now Disney shut down Blue Sky Studios so they can make all The Ice Age they want!
