I am with you John on some of the bigger lure players copying the smaller innovators , Berkley copying an Australian designed prawn lure only shows that the Aussie design is a winner , I will still buy the Australian original design even if it's a few dollars more. I will still buy an Aussie bloke a job over a foreign company any day , be parochial and shop local !
it will defiantly be interesting how many tackle shops stock the new Berkley plastic. i feel like if they do they aren't very good supporters of the local Australian lure creators... it will also be interesting if they sell many and if this has put them back in there shell a bit.. they've finally gone over the line after copying lures for years. looking at comments on their Instagram this has to put an end or at least calm down their lure copying..... im hoping this could boost holts sales from people showing their support to holt productions.. mint vid johnny 👌
Totally agree with your comments there John, I too will be supporting my local lure makers. I was impressed with a lot of the gear that was on display at this years AFTA. Think i need a better paying job to keep the recreation fishing industry afloat. ; )

Awesome to catch up Johnny as always, your enthusiasm is next level for all things fishing. I still don’t know what to think or make of the whole “raw prawn” debacle that has unfolded in the past few days. But that’s another conversation for another snag. Lure of the show in my opinion is Bones glide baits the finish on those is beyond belief and for a bloke like Bone to be on the stand so openly talking all things about his lures an drool worthy rods is testament to the guy. The battery is charged, rods are rigged, boat’s fuelled waiting.

thx for the tour mate. Johnny i have been using the 115 maverick as my surface/sub surface hard body for jacks for a few years. the 90 will be a little better for hook ups because of the smaller body profile, i think. also been using the 230 floating maverick as my hard body for flat head on the flats. not hard to guess wat softies i use. powerpro n yeti all the way. was going this year but copeton beckoned a little more. hopefully next year. thx again mate.

Love these for the people who can't make it to these shows I love the Rapala stuff I'm with you they have been a favourite of mine since I moved over from NZ and yes I hate big players copying and making the same lures as the smaller guys as well I like to find new stuff to try all the time the one thing I do miss from you is seeing you use some of the favourite old lures like the Rapala shadow rap jack deep 7 and deep XRD10s the river rats from time to time don't do reviews but go back to using the old classics

I'd lobe to see a how to and review of the small maverick and nomad lures. I tried to use the 65mm maverick on the flats for flatbread and bream and couldn't keep tailor off them

Great video really enjoyed it. You can see that plastic lures have definitely taken over. Not many hand made lures around. I definitely love supporting local.

The nomad maverick reminds me of an old Damiki lure called a poco poco, it had the same shaped nose but the tow point was a bit higher
Think that's the Duo poco poco you're thinking of, the Maverick is actually pretty much a copy of an AR Lure, not sure on the name of it but I probably have a couple still in the tackle box. That lure didn't swim real well so hopefully they've improved on the action.
@@anthony_correnti love to see a picture of the AR lure that is similar to a maverick. Never seen it and the maverick was a totally original design that we first made for chasing big GT's in a 230 size and then downscaled it. Certyainly wasn't a copy of anything.

can attest to the curado. I have a chronarch and tbh the curado is just better and more durable.

Probably a dumb question but I'll bass the same as a bream? Do we have bass in South Australia? What would you recommend to use a hard lure to catch bream and size thx?
Hi mate, Bass are only meant to be on the eastern side of the Great dividing range so Vic, NSW and South east Queensland. You do have Murray cod though 👌

Berkleys swim prawn was a good one
I know a mate who started making his own lures and got legal action against him by Savage Gear because his Fish logo looked "Similar" to theirs so he had to shut down. So if Savage Gear can do that then why can't James Holt, cease and desist immediately Berkley

@@greenmachine3696 they threatened him with crap like lost revenue and a bunch of other shit and it already looked nothing like their logo, I don't know what he could have done to make them happy. Just too hard to deal with so he decided just to stop. I've never bought Savage Gear anyway but I definitely never will because of this

Takeaway- if your lure is good enough, patent it..
Go the local guys over the big guys. The big guys have the money and support to do the research and prototyping. Leave the local guys stuff alone .

Boycott Berkley
Do these shows not have a day for retail/wholesale outlets and press/influencers like yourself John to do business before the crowds are allowed in. I believe they do this at the I-Cast show in the states, even if it's only the afternoon or evening before the doors are open to the public. I noticed Rapala's had a knock off of Nomad's Dartwing with the MaxRap Walk n Roll and the blatant rip off of Holt's Swim Prawn by Berkley shows that they have no integrity. It looks like this has become a bit of a trend over the years, sad to see these companies who should have more resources at hand to do their own innovations. Good reason to have a patent taken out on your product before these shameless rip off companies steal your hard work. I don't know if you saw The Hook Up channel's coverage and review of last year's I-Cast show (1:22) ua-cam.com/video/u1lYoSFQH_Y/v-deo.html where they were equally disappointed by lack of integrity by these companies. That's why I'll support "Australia Made" first and support channels like yourself John, great show mate.
