I think his 'secret' is to light the verbal fuse as it were, and let the guests take it from there. It's a technique that obviously works, and so I think the guests feel more at ease, unlike say, Jimmy Fallon, who always wants to make his show all about him - the guests seem to come a distant second to his ego. And don't even get me started on his patently false, over exaggerated 'laugh' ! Fake as f@#k !
What Fallon seems to forget, is that he wouldn't have a show but for the guests that come on. Graham Nortons' show attracts more and bigger stars I think, too.
