Hi, I don't think excel can do that kind of thing. If it's possible, I certainly don't know how. You may want to look into using something like Mathematica or Matlab if your matrix has complex elements. BTW, if your matrix is not square (i.e. not mxm size) then I don't think an inverse exists. So you can't find the inverse of an "m x n" matrix!
hi, i have a question: I want excel to do the follwoing: i have a matrix an a result matrix. i want the multiplikator matrix. so i do: =MMULT(MINV(F3:H5);I3:I5) But now i want excel to calculate as long as it has only positiv result. example with inccorect numbers: 1,2,3;4,5,6;7,8,9 is my 3x3 matrix. the result matrix ist 12,13,14 the result for example could be -2,4,7 i dont want the -2. i need only positive results like 2,7,8. Do you have an idea?
I only get the first element A x B result 10 and on other values. I follow exactly as per video, highlight 3 x 3 range and mmult formula. I'm missing something - please help. Thanks Guy P

So you are trying the same multiplication and it comes out with a different answer? What answer do you get? Can you put the file on dropbox or googledrive and put a link here
That is so strange! I've tried the same on my computer and I'm getting the correct result. What language is your excel in? Is the language right to left by any chance?
It's very similar, don't use the MMult command. Select the cells where you want the answer to be, type for e.g. =A4*C4:D5 (here A4 holds the scalar and C4 to D5 holds the matrix) then press ctrl+shit+enter

ok, I know you can do matrix manipulations in excel, but why would you? If you want software which comes in a nice shiny package use: MatLab, Maple, or Mathematica. If you want software which is free use: Octave, Maxima, or PyLab Spreadsheets in general and excel in particular are over-rated and over-used, the time you spend learning a proper piece of mathematical software will pay off, and quicker than you expect.

If you invert a matrix and then invert it again then you get back the original matrix. Do you want to invert the same matrix multiple times?

You need to first select a 3x3 set of cells before typing it in, and then press cntrl+shift+enter. Hope this helps.
