      It would be fun to test a few intake elbows on this truck and see what each one does or does not change to the overall performance of the engine. Any suggestions on which intake elbows should make the cut?

    Curious: how intricate was it to swap the 6.7 in? Motor mounts?

    • @sidewaysstarion

      The blocks are the same, it bolts right in, it's all down to electrical and plumbing.

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  6 місяців тому +1

      For motor mounts you'd want to source 98.5-2002 motor mounts since the 24v mounts are a little different than the 12v mounts despite the frame being essentially identical from 1994 thru 2002. Then you could run any 24v block, but most choose the 6.7 to get the displacement and block strength.

      I'm going to have a spare rebuilt 2004.5 5.9 Cummins pretty soon. I'm thinking of swapping it into my squarebody as is because of how great it is stock. Personally it's been the best engine I've ever had; ultra reliable, mega torque, and 18-20 MPG.
      Questions:
      Would you install it as is? Everyone always wants a 12 valve.
      I've heard the injectors don't last as long as the 12 valve ones do. Would you or can you back-date it and build it as a mechanical 12 valve?
      Think like the Roadkill Ramp Truck you guys did up. My truck is a 1 ton regular street truck, but it's heavy and towing often.
      Please and thank you for any insight.

      1800 HP fuel-only 12v is pretty difficult to maintain/keep alive. As much as we hate to admit it, radical 13mm pumps capable of 1800 HP and tuned clean are especially rare! 1500 HP fuel-only water cooled 5.9 block based 12V is the current threshold Will's working on making reliable.

    Have you guys ever done a dyno comparison of a banks monster ram and cold air intake vs stock intake and filter right next to a hot turbo? Looks to me like the stock intake and just a K&N off the turbo works just fine:)

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  6 місяців тому +1

      It would be an interesting test. On the air filter side, this truck needs a 6" intake to match the inlet of the big 106mm turbo. None of the mass produced air filter/intake kits would fit so it would be a less than ideal test scenario. However, we could test intake elbows at the cylinder head intake plenum. Those would bolt up for the most part and could be reliably tested.

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  6 місяців тому +1

      We've been interested in trying them to see what, if any real world benefits could be measured. We've all seen claims of 100 MPG carburetors and yet, they still don't exist. If the claimed 20% efficiency gain was real, this technology would have been bought up by a large auto manufacturer and utilized to give them a leg up on the competition. However, is it possible that there are other benefits like reduced idle haze, marginally faster turbo spoolup, even a mild 3% efficiency of power gain with some other not yet known tradeoff? We'd like to know so we'd definitely like to test the technology and see what it does or does not do!

  • @bcbloc02

    Interesting it’s only 400 more horse than Todd’s daily but with twice as much turbo. Seems like it must need more cam.

    • @CumminsWorks
      @CumminsWorks 6 місяців тому +1

      It's not that much more turbo. It has the same GT55 on the atmosphere, but with a 480 on the manifold instead of Todd's 467. The Larger Manifold charger doesn't make a big power difference, it just helps carry the power out further in the RPM range, as well as prevent heat soak going down the track. Todd's tow truck makes about 10-20psi more boost then Scrat, which just shows how much the 96 turbine helps get the exhaust out of the motor. The best I've done with Scat is 1847hp, but I expect to beat that come April 20th! 🤞

    7:30 Do they make a 2wd version of those shocks I see the compression rebound adjustments. The Bilstein's I run are valved too loose, but the tightest factory ones I know of. • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  6 місяців тому

      There are quite a few off the shelf race shocks that you can make work if you're willing to weld brackets to the axle and frame. The heaviest valved shocks we've come across before you get into custom valved race shocks are the AFCO Big Guns shocks. We believe they will be valved tight enough to control your rear end. If that isn't enough, you should message John at Black Tie Race Fab and get some custom Penske's ordered. Also keep in mind, once you get the $400 per shock retail price level, most shocks can be reworked with different valving to better suit your needs. Strange, AFCO, etc. Just don't go for the cheapest $250 shocks, they usually are not re-valve able.
