If no one has noticed it yet, it’s very obvious that Vera was on the verge of a panic attack at the beginning of the second interview. She has very quick rapid breathing, and you can see her reaching for her essential oils as she’s trying to stutter and get words out but she’s clearly having trouble focusing. That and her saying she loses her saliva which is often a symptom of when your body is about to shut down and go into panic mode. It’s very clear she’s using the essential oils as a grounding device and you can see after she smells them she starts to calm down. I really feel for her there. The audience and Craig probably thought she was doing it as a bit but it really does seem like she was truly seconds away from “losing her shit” as she put it. Poor girl :/
Was reading about Vera and her oil therapy and she was having a panic attack during the interview hence the reason she kept smelling the bottle. I've suffered with panic attacks for 30 years and I find sometimes aroma therapy to be quite helpful.

Vera Farmiga and the boy who played Norman bates were absolutely incredible for the 3-4 season it was on. Spoiler alert .. In fact the season after Vera passes away she plays the recurring ghost in Norman's visions and it really doesn't get much creepier. Bates Motel and Fargo are my favorite bits to come on 'television' over the past decade.

I think she and Craig are being hyper aware of a) if they're crossing a line their spouses wouldn't like b) wondering if they're being witty or weird.
