dude this video literally helped me heal so much.. i went thru so much shit there.. to see it all like this , how i recall it. really helped me get closure
I was stationed in Baumholder in Alpha Battery 1/2 FA from 1974 to 1977. I wish we had all the things that are there now. Would love to go back for a visit.
Served there from 1990-1992 as a combat medic in the 4th battalion 12th ID 2nd AD if I remember correctly. Long time ago. I was in Smith barracks (I think) right across from the Burger King. First gulf war was taking place. Never forget Grafenwöhr and Hohenfels (Bavaria) training grounds. Spent a lot of time out in that muddy hell hole lol. Never forget the mud, dust and the cold.
Been a long time since I checked in on Baumholder. Was there '93-'95, 1AD DIVARTY, C BTRY 4/29 FA. Looks like some things have been renovated, which is great to see.
I once was returning from Idar-Oberstein when I spied what I thought was a beerfest. I made myself at home - appeared to be the only American. Having a great time making friends when I realized it was a communist anti-nuke rally. Being a nike-hercules tech, I decided it prudent to slip away into the night!
WOW that has upgraded since I was there in the 1960s. I remember the Wetzel Housing (I think it was called something else then). Nice apartments. This is so crazy to see after all this time.
0:13 Drove down this road a lot 1989-1991. Old horse stables on the left, was the sight and sound electronic store with a shopette. 1:18 Idar is very close, was the diamond trading center for Germany at one time. They ruined it putting a bridge over the river trapping it under the town. Trier is worth the visit with the Roman ruins Mosel Valley is not far away, and a great get away for all the castles and scenic overlooks of the river. Saarbrucken is okay Mannheim? nah don't waste your time.........Rather go to Worms instead. Certain military personnel drove to Amsterdam, well they went there for other reasons. Usually attracted admin check once they returned for an early morning test.
Great video. I froze my a** off in Baumholder during REFORGER 1983 - 1985. I was in the 8th Infantry Division Artillery HQ as an E-4 MOS 13-c. Since I was the worst driver in the entire Division, I was assigned to drive the Division S-3. I wasn't any better driving him. Btw, his name was Maj. Burns! Not Frank, but Michael. I had a great time there. 50% at base, 50% training.
Interesting to see. My father was stationed there in late 1989. I was two weeks old. I was a toddler there 😂My parents still have the photos. One of my brothers was born there as well. ❤
I lived here as a kid 1990 to 1993 give or take. It looks the same at times but different. I remember the green top basketball courts and the AYA. I was in building 1135 O
My Step Dad was stationed in Baumholder when he met and married my Mom in 1977. I was 10 years old and was actually born in Germany not far from Baumholder (Idar-Oberstein). His name was L. Williams. He passed in 2020.
I was there from 1965 to 1967 no ,nothing like this.i bet you don’t see any traces of warfare, do you? It was still around when I was there. I’m glad it’s easier for you guys now. Good old u.s.a. 1/87 th infantry.
Hello, I liked your video. Unfortunately, I live near Baumholder. One question. Is it possible for non-military personnel to enter the base, or is it impossible to get in? Salut from Marios

Another great video. Loved going into Baumholder and K-town when they had their festivals. Last time there was around April 1980.
Thanks! Can’t imagine what it looked like back then 😳

I went on maneuvers many times while stationed in Mannheim Germany, armor, 5/68, combat support company. Sullivan barracks. 74-75
I was stationed there from 2002 to 2004 1st armored 2/6 infantry
I was c co 2/6 2000-03 2nd platoon 1st squad

Me Too
Thanks for watching! I’m glad it brought you back down memory lane 😊
I think they called it Fallingburg or something like that. That was 1967 I was only 10years old, my dad was in the army then.
@@craigmarr7986 we were there about the same time. I think you have a better memory than me. I think you’re right about the name.
3 1/2 years there. Would love to visit it 35 years later.
LOVED the vid! Took me back to 2011, Baumholder hasn't changed much and that's a good thing! Awesome post!
Thanks for stopping by brother! 🫡
@DTVDanielTelevision Ty for the content, will be recommending you to everyone I know PCS'ing!
@@johnsharplin respect!
August 1977 to August 1979 was Baumholder for me.
So you met Jeffrey Dahmer

SMITH ELEMENTARY I MISS THAT SCHOOL
I , was stationed there from 1992 to 1994 HHC 2/68 Armor, 2nd Platoon scouts,1st Armored Division. Went there in 2012 as EOD for 2 weeks.
It sure has changed since I was stationed there. 83-86 My youngest son was born at Landstul Medical Center 1985.
I was stationed there in 76-78 CSC 2/68 Armor. My son was born in Landstul in 1977.
I was there for 2 years and 4 months from 78-80
1978-1983 never again! The saving grace is the geography - run like hell from the “Rock” crowd 😮😮😮
I lived here as a kid 1990 to 1993 give or take. It looks the same at times but different. I remember the green top basketball courts and the AYA. I was in building 1135 O
I was here in 07. I actually miss it. Mostly the people. It looks like it's cleaned up a bit!
I served there in 4/27 FA from 2000-2002 and again in 2009-2012 in 40th ENG. It looks pretty much the same as it did 24 years ago.
I was there HHB DIVARTY, in 86-88.
🫡🇺🇸🇩🇪 Thx for your service
Good job with this video, question, do you happen to know about the mandatory On-Post housing rule and why can't someone buy a house Off-Post?
I lived in baumholder West Germany from 87 to 89 right before the Berlin Wall was taken down
What a difference 45 years makes! 76-78
My Step Dad was stationed in Baumholder when he met and married my Mom in 1977. I was 10 years old and was actually born in Germany not far from Baumholder (Idar-Oberstein). His name was L. Williams. He passed in 2020.
I loved Idar-Oberstein. I would hitch hike there and wander around...grab some cheese, bread and wine. Window shop the jewelry stores.
Another great video
dope video !! lol miss the rock.. 2011-2016

Just dropped on orders for Smith Barracks. My kids are adults now so I will be coming unaccompanied, what do the barracks SSGs love in took like
I think "shopette" was more accurate! That looks like a tiny PX!
Riiiight?!?
❤
nice 🎉

You need someone with a military ID card stationed in Germany to sponsor/escort you on base
I'm getting stationed there in 2025
So are smith barracks and wetszel the only housing option in Baumholder or are there others housing options.? Accompanied Pcs with family
Yep that’s about it, unless you’re a civilian (or there’s no availability) then you’re more than likely off base.
@@DTVDanielTelevision thanks for the reply ! Your videos have helped tremendously.
I am going to be stationed there. Are there any churches?!?
Is the basketball court open 24 hours?
Pretty sure the 24 gym has a Bball court, so yes.
Are you still currently in Germany? If so me and my wife have a question about dog related stuff
Yes I am. We’re here indefinitely 😊 Whatcha got? 🐕
Do they still have the little wurst stands all over the place. To this day I dream about a good bratwurst and brochen?
Everywhere 🍖 🥖👌🏾
Best 😋
Would you take a German civilian to the commissary to get his hands on some American products? 😅 Asking for a friend…
Lived here with my family when I was 5. Why does it still look the same! Always grey and gloomy if I can remember.
I want a döner 😫😅
Wild Cats 😂😂😂
I was in Baumholder in 1970 when the base was torn apart by race riots, as were other U.S. bases. I have no fond memories of the place.
Jeffrey Dahmer...
Yes, he stayed in the Smith barracks.
As you all know by now that the late Jeffrey Dahmer, know as the Milwaukee Cannibal, was stationed in Baumholder in the late 1970's.
