Thank you. Part of my assignment for my music course required listening to various works by different composers. I looked all over the net, and who would have thought I'd find this work here. You are my hero. Thanks again
someone down there said "if you don't understand, it's your problem, not the music", and I agree. I love this piece, and even if the audio is a bit rough, I think the performance was more than adequate.
A friend of mine, who teaches schoolchildren, once said that the sounds of this piece are very similar to a group of misbehaving schoolchildren who were left alone unsupervised in the classroom!
Great duo performance, and the percussionists are really on top of the piece, too. The only regret is that this is only the 1st movement, and even so, it is severely abbreviated. It is rare to see this performed live, so having the video is very nice.
I think the problem many people have with this type of music is that there doesn't "appear" to be any skill involved. It may be fiendishly difficult to play and compose - but that doesn't matter. If it sounds like someone has put boxing gloves on 4 children and then step back and allow the children to bang away, then what's the point?
@hmisdalaw I hate to spoil you're thoughts - but you are really not meant to 'understand' contemporary music, just listen to it and enjoy it. Schoenberg would be turning in his grave if the only people who liked his music were the ones that understood it.

Aye to that. These people shouldn't be left out by themselves during the day.

It says here performance by the Tosheff Duo, what about the other musicians? I thought it was a quartet & not just a piano duo, right?

The climax is around 2:00
But,their performance was on the verge of catastrophe.
on n'entend pas la grosse caisse au début
le son n'est pas bon
dommage.
je crois que la qualité sonore est primordiale pour ce genre d'oeuvre

good recording. Unfortunately the audio is not wonderful, but especially the percussionists seem well prepared. But it's not the whole first movement!
He had some, but they got away.
