- Kyoto is absolutely amazing & I'm so glad I went there with my husband for winter vacation. Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kinkakuji was packed but stunning. Extremely grateful T & I picked up a special charm for 2019 at Okazaki Shrine.

When I was in Kyoto, we woke up at 5am to take the very first train to Fushimi Inari because I wanted to avoid the crowds at all costs. We got there around like 6am or something and nobody was there. Just a couple of joggers and an old Japanese couple feeding the cats around the temple area. It was really the most magical time ever!

Omg jealoussss!! I wanted to wake early and go but, I was driving so much the night before, that day, and the next couple of days bc of our road trip so.. I slept as much as I could! T can’t drive so, I drove 2500km myself 🙌🏻

For the Inari Taisha try going in the evening or night. The area is open and well lit and the sight and feeling of the area is amazing.
I would have loved to try that but I had to drive 5 hours to my in-laws haha. BUT maybe another time ;)

As a makeup artist I know you like the fluffy brow look. An easy brow gel is clear soap (usually with glycerin) it keeps them so gorg and fluffy thought yoh would appreciate it :)

That green soft serve I had was matcha (green tea) and it was really delicious!! You can get all different kinds of green tea ice cream in Kyoto. And I also highly recommend everyone to make it there if they can! AND if you can’t afford to go to Kyoto OR no time, kamakura in Kanagawa is known as “little kyoto” & others can go there instead
Did the car insurance cover all of the costs of the accident?
I believe so! We were in contact with the car rental place as soon as it happened, then called the police to file a report! If we didn’t file a police report then we wouldn’t have been able to get it covered under the car insurance !
When we give the car bar, they just checked the front & said “thanks! See you again!”
I frequently use this car rental service !

I think inari is my fav place in Kyoto. It was a dream come true to walk through those gates.

I would say yes! At least in my experience~ that or a very light yukata!

It depends on where you are travelling in japan and your tolerance for cold!
I’m curious about hotels in Japan, do they mostly use scented laundry detergent/cleaning products and are their rooms often fragrant? I have sensitivities to chemical fragrances, but would love to travel to Japan one day! 💖💕💗
Aleen R I have similar sensitivities and have travelled to Japan many times. I've had no problems with hotels in terms of chemicals. Some of the older ones are sometimes dusty but I've never had a chemical reaction in all my stays. In fact, I find my sensitivities are often less aggravated when I'm travelling Japan.
I find the towels don’t really smell like anything !! Sometimes they smell a bit off in a bad way but I have yet to stay in a place that has a very strong laundry smell!
And I agree!!! My bestie Ariana is allergic to dust here in japan (bc there is a specific dust-mite here) and some older hotels are a bit dustier than others!

If you want to see snow 100% in japan curing winter, north is the best bet or an area with ski hills ~
Aw, I love Kyoto. I've never been there in winter, the one season I've not gone. We're probably going to go there this Golden Week. Last time we went to Fushimi Inari we made sure to get up super early to beat the crowds and it worked. It's the only way to get shots without people in them.

How did the rental car company handle the damages? Was everything ok?
Everything was fine because we had insurance so, we just pointed out the damages and left. The rental car company knew ahead of time anyways because you have to contact them.

I remember my wife backing the car into the garage many years ago. Apparently I was incredibly good about this. Just as well. Two weeks later, after the repair, I did the same!
I had a family friend back into the garage door... and then she drove into it from the other side because she thought it would reverse the damage. 🤣🤣

Hmmmmm usually he sleeps but this road trip he was pretty good. When he sleeps it makes me sleepy so, he stayed awake for our safety haha

It’s cold but not freezing!! I just experienced a light snow fall. I’m not sure about the weather though during other periods in winter since I don’t live there!! I was fine with a warm jacket and headband tho!
You got to see SNOW!!!! YAY!!!! Your hotel was so nice....that tv was HUGE!!!! That smartphone service is nice, but I'm with you on hating androids....I'm an iPhone girl :) :) I could get down with that breakfast :) :) I loved all of the shrines, but Kinkakuji was my favorite :) :) I hope you hitting the wall is your last bit of bad luck for the year!!! I've got a feeling that you are gonna have some seriously good luck/news in January :) :)
So far no bad luck as of January 10th (today!) & we were lucky to see a bit of snow!! I really wish Kinkakuji was covered in snow like some of the photos online BUT regardless, it’s beautiful !

Ohhh great seeing all these places again. Haven’t been to Kyoto in ages (ha ha it’s 20 minutes away by train😅) but my best friend from the UK is visiting in Apri🌸 so can’t wait to take her around all the temples 😁

Kyoto is so lovely! Watching this brought back fond memories of the two days I spent there visiting with my sister (it was during the summer, though). I'm glad you finally got to see Kinkaku-ji. Hopefully you can go to Nijo-jo another time. :)

I liked the Okazaki Shrine (fertility gods?? ahaaaaa ;-D)... it looked so beautiful with all those bunnies... and the most important (for me) it was not crowded (I'm a bit afraid of crowds).

Aaah I love Kyoto so much! Been there twice and I always visit Fushimi Inari Taisha without fail. It is the most stunning place! If I get to go this year I'll have to make a visit to the fertility shrine too haha. Or maybe find something similar in Tokyo :D

It’s between 5 to 8 degrees in Yokohama. Maybe in Kyoto it’s slightly colder bc they can get snow!

Okazaki shrine saved ! My rabbit died last month, this is so cute I was crying 🐰 Too bad for the car but I am amazed you drive there husband says it is too far so we took the shinkansen to Osaka 💸💸

Pro tip for Fushimi Inari is to go at night! It's lit up all the way and basically empty, and the night-view of Kyoto at night is great as well :) Hopefully you left the bad luck in 2018! lol
Next time I want to go either SUPER early or late at night!! I had to drive that night so, no chance then!

I thought it cute (and funny) the fertility shine had bunnies all through it.
I guess I should say it’s just a shrine BUT you can get fertility things there!! When we were there the little people that were there also bought the same pink ring we did!
And I couldn’t understand why bunnies !? (They are so cute though) and then my bestie Ariana told me “isn’t is bc bunnies have babies all the time and can produce a baby rabbit within a month of two?” And that made sense to me 😂😂😂

I went to KYOTO for the fews days back inJune 2019 it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Hottttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!! then back to our Japenese Grandpreants house.:)
