    Very interesting I got a 960 just recently and this is the sort of thing I like to see and can learn from.

    Very helpful thank you. The 960 has lots up its sleeve. I look forward to more.

    A very simple way to condition a stage trigger output to reset to another stage is to stick it through a low pass filter. This has the added advantage that the cutoff frequency will control whether it resets or not. I have tested a Doepfer A-108 VCF8 from 6db/oct upto 48db/oct and it works well so I presume it will work with any LPF module. Feeding the VCF frequency control from a LFO gives an effect which is random enough to be interesting and repetetive enough to be coherent.

      Might seem a strange question, but I haven't got my 960 yet (won't ship for six months!!! ) Do you happen to know if the stage trigger outputs are triggers (short pulses) or gates (held DC voltage) The manual doesn't specify, except to say the trigger output is DC coupled, unlike the input. I know it says "trigger" but I've seen a good many modules say "trigger out" when its actually a gate.

      @@nickmarkham3743 The stage outputs are TTL compatible, positive logic, gates. There is also an oscillator out signal which is a TTL compatible, positive going (rising with the stage outputs) 25% duty cycle signal which may be useful.

      @@andrewlecouteurbisson7217 Thanks for getting back! ^^ Just to be sure I understand the stage output gates correctly: these gates remain high as long as a stage is active, right? Meaning, if I stop the sequencer, the output for that stage remains high. I don't expect the oscillator output to remain high while the sequencer is stopped (but maybe it does, dunno)
      Was hoping to use the stage gates to select channels on a kind of multiplexor (octal vca into an amplifier/mixer)

      @@nickmarkham3743 The stage outputs remain on as long as the stage is selected. The signal state is reflected in the state of the numbered LEDs at the top. The Behringer clones seem to be very accurate copies, warts and all. With this in mind, search for "Moog 15 schematics" and the first result will provide a schematic for the original 960 where it can be seen that the lamp and stage output are driven by the true and inverted outputs of a flip-flop and therefore have exactly the same timing.

      @@andrewlecouteurbisson7217 Thanks so much, mate! That's exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not an electronics engineer, or even a hobbyist yet, so a schematic would've been hieroglyphs to me. Block diagrams, I get, but electricity doesn't seem to be so unidirectional -- its more like algebra or even differential equations in some cases, done pictorially. . . Anyway, thanks again for your time! I appreciate it.

    I'm still enjoying learning about my 960 (actually, I bought two of them !) - but there's one thing that's so far eluded me - How to programme a REST into a sequence. The original Moog 960 had a 4th click available on each skip/normal/stop control which apparently, would go past that channel and not trigger anything. I'm sure there must be a way of doing this, but has anyone any advice on this issue ? - Thanks.

    • @and7barton
      @and7barton 3 роки тому +6

      I'm essentially replying to myself - I've worked out how to create a rest - By using a 962 switcher to turn on and off the trigger output of the 960 (rather than the usual CV).
      Here's how - You use the 962 sequential switch. Control the 960 from an external clock pulse. Patch any of the three output rows of the 960 into your vco control voltage socket. Then patch say, channel 5 trigger output into trigger input 2 on the 962 module. Next, patch say, the channel 6 trigger output into trigger input 1 on the 962. Patch another cable from the same clock source into the "Sig in" socket 1 on the 962. Patch the 962 output to your envelope input. You will now have a rest on channel 5 of the 960. What's happening is that channel 5's trigger out is switched off by the 962, then switched back on in time for channel 6 to work. If you have your envelope decay/release set for too long a time, it will probably pick up a ghost of channel 5's output, so best keep the envelope decay/sustain/release pretty short.

      I received my 960 only last week and stumbled across a way to achieve rests, using a Doepfer A-160-5 ratcheting controller, and one row of the 960. The output voltage must be at a certain level to trigger the output of the A-160-5, so set that level on 960 for the steps you want to sound, and set a lower voltage on the steps you want to be rests. Added advantage is you can also ratchet any step by turning up the voltage. You still need short envelopes though.

    Can the control input be used as an "advance step" input? This would be helpful in sync'ing to another sequencer. The connection wasn't clear in the video. Or is that the "shit" input?

    • @and7barton
      @and7barton 3 роки тому +1

      I no longer use the 960's internal oscillator to drive it. I have three 960s and drive all three from the clock output on a Behringer 150 which I've split into six switchable outputs on a home-build module. I can independently switch the 960s on and off from this module. Unless I stop the clock and reset all the 960s back to channel 1, they'll start at different times if I switch them on one at a time, but they'll all run at the same speed. If I want to start them all at channel 1 together, I just switch on a "Master" switch on my panel. It was a simple build. No electronics involved, but a bunch of switches, though I did indulge myself with a green LED which flashes on each clock pulse.

      you would have to use a sequential switch, along with plugging the oscillator output (clock) of one sequencer into the shift input of a second 960
