- Some African Union peacekeepers are set to withdraw from Somalia, with 2,000 troops expected to leave, half the original number planned. The withdrawal has been slowed following a Somali government request amid concerns over Al-Shabaab's resurgence. The peacekeeping mission is to withdraw completely by December, but the African Union aims to establish a new 12,000-strong contingent to replace it. Mohammed Hirmoge, a Somalia affairs analyst and former communications staffer at the office of the country's president, told Al Jazeera that the AU's 17-year peacekeeping mission has achieved little, despite the money and time allocated, as much of the country remains under insurgent control. Both sides face accusations of war crimes, and the withdrawal is seen as rushed and not based on results.

That Somali should show some more respect to the sons and daughters of Uganda and other African countries who gave the ultimate sacrifice to stabilize your failed state. Without AMISOM, there wd be no Somali govt to speak of, Alshabab wd be fully in charge of your country and by now their terror wd have gripped Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan etc. We have been practically building a police force, army and judicial system for Somalia from scratch, on top of our respective challenges. If the Somalis feel like they don’t appreciate what AMISOM has done for them, fine, let’s withdraw and I guarantee you Alshabab will be in charge of Mogadishu within 12 months from total withdrawal of our forces.

While the AU have been in somalia for over a decade they have managed to secure the major cities only but if the withdrawal continues it will create a void and there is a scenario that what happened in Afghanistan in 2020 may happen in somalia.
i believe Somalia is still in need of them, but even if some of them are leaving Somalia 🇸🇴 have to thank foreign troops and peacekeepers , Those East African troops who are peace keepers take remarkable roles when it comes seeking solutions to internal conflicts in Somalia.

People need to realize sooner or later amisom was going to leave Somalia they been there long enough at first yes they were helping but now they only stay in their bases collect salaries over 30k personnel have been trained and ready to take over and 10k more will be added into the Somali army personnel at the end of the year and more 5k more have been enlisted not to mention 5 military bases are set to open by the USA 1 in each state from Kismayo to Puntland we are moving forward we need to start taking the responsibility of our country and thanks for all our African brothers and sisters who stood by us when we needed them the most

Well, Al shabab's strength is eliminated compared to last decade which they were really had a strong army. Al most of the majority of somali people are now against al shabab and the group has lost it's rhetoric propaganda. Plus, they were kicked out huge lands by The SNA with the local heroes . They fully control only one region entire of the 18 regions of somalia. Supporting and offering to The SNA sufficient heavy weapons,(Somalia was imposed embargo on more than thirty years so you can imagine how things could go to the worst). It could change the battle at all in less then two years and somalis can destroy them if there is willingness from Somali government and the united nations but the danger of the group remains relatively.
The main problems is Moqadishu politician are highly corrupted. Some of regional governments are strong and stable than federal government.
