From watch base: Rolex caliber 4131 is an evolution of caliber 4130. It was introduced in 2023 and features several updates in line with other new Rolex movements, such as the Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers, and optimized ball bearings. Aesthetic updates include an opworked rotor and a Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration.

Lovely video. I totally agree with your price point of view. I really love the Daytona but I think the price right now is very close the the maximum what the watch is worth. At lease for me.
The best thing about the Daytona to me is the proportions and overall finish. It’s small and smooth and slides under a cuff well, the oyster bracelet is a perfect sports watch bracelet and the extra polish gives it a bit of tasteful flash. It doesn’t have the date so no cyclops which polarizes people. The thing I don’t like is the dial feels a bit cramped and busy, and I think the price even at retail is pretty steep even by Rolex standards. It’s an overhyped and also overhated watch, but it is a damn good watch. People love to hate Rolex, but when you just get them because you like them and not to show off is when you really start to appreciate the brand imho.
The last generation JLC Polaris Chronograph has a thinner case with a display case back with much greater legibility in the dark and you won’t need to unscrew any pusher to operate it, truly amazing IMO😅
About the screw-down pushers, it's not that I need to time things quickly... but I've got fidgety hands, so I need to keep pushing the pushers and turning the bezels 😆
Given my smaller wrist, I’m pleasantly surprised the case is actually smaller than advertised. Wonder if it’s the same case (no pun intended) with the GMT. Not that I have any chance of getting either, but it’s nice to dream!
I love the Daytona as an object. I hate that every jerk I know owns one and knows nothing about watches. So naturally my brain puts everyone I see wearing one into the jerk category. As an example of contrast, when I am the airport (where I get to see the most watches in the wild) and I see someone wearing a Parmigiani F or a Hanhart I instantly think they have a more developed knowledge and taste for watches, they actually gave some thought about where to spend their money. All subjective of course.
"I love the Daytona as an object. I hate that every jerk I know owns one and knows nothing about watches." - You can just say that about Rolex in general. It's my biggest problem with the brand. Put it this way: if 5% of people wearing a watch by Omega, Cartier, JLC, Grand Seiko, etc. are douchebags, then 20% of people wearing Rolex watches are. Are most Rolex owners douchebags? No, but a large, loud minority are. Other people notice this and they associate the brand with this negative stereotype, and I don't want to be associated with this negative stereotype, which puts me off Rolex.
I am having an uneasy Sunday today. Didn’t sleep well, I’m bothered by something, coffee machine broke so I had to go buy but as soon as I got back home and saw your upload, my day is starting to get better. Thanks for the video 😁 Daytona’s the end goal Rolex for me. I get my GMT master next month from the AD (allegedly) hopefully I get the Daytona (probably going to go for oysterflex since the wait won’t be as long) hopefully in the next 2 years? 😂😂
I love your commentaries and your reviews. But, how do you afford such expensive watches? The plain steel Daytona at my local shop is $15,100. I am thinking twice about a Tudor BB 58 at $4,000!
My problem with the Daytona is that there are 5 indices between seconds yet the seconds hand, being operated by a 28.8k VPH movement, beats at 4 Hz, so the seconds hand never properly lines up with the increments in between the seconds. It's not the practicality of this that bothers me, it's the laziness behind Rolex's decision not to bother fixing it.
The thickness is paramount for me!!! The profile of any watch is ‘the’ main factor for myself. I can love a watch (as I have many times) only for it to sit proud on my wrist and then there’s the inevitable ‘wobble’ no matter what watch it is once it goes over 12 mm it’s dodgy ground for me. Once that hesitant exis in my brain it’s game over for the watch no matter what it is
The only thing I don't like about this watch is the fact I don't have one 😊 Stunning watch and especially the black dial, I like it so much more than the white dial. Yes, very expensive but if I could get it at retail I would... Maybe 🤔 Nice video Britt, hope you're having a great Sunday 🎉,🤩
You dont understand, when I'm cooking amd my wife starts complaining about it, I need to start the timer right away because she will be back any time soon with another complain 😂
I'm really surprised that no other companies can't make a thinner automatic chronograph. It must be ridiculously hard to do. If a company could do it and sell it for 10k CAN or under it would fly off the shelves.
The 4130 movement is a thing of beauty, arguably Rolex's greatest achievement to date. The vertical chronograph is fully integrated into the overall movement, yet it's also laid out in such a way that the barrel can be replaced by removing (I think) just the rotor and one bridge. I guess there's a reason why it lasted for over 20 years, and even the 4131 isn't much more than a modernized variation of its predecessor.
As you said it became kind of a "sporty dress watch" you would wear on nice occasions, after thinking about it sold mine and bought a 38mm Royal Oak chronograph to fill that spot in my collection, overhyped too but just that less common, I mean I am a member of my local Porsche owner's club and no joke about 75% of people attending are wearing a Daytona.... Do I miss it times to times? Of course but if I had to buy another one it would be a a 5 digits vintage one
Pelagos 39 is the forbidden love watch for me. There is so much good there but it has so many things I dislike in other watches yet seem to work in that one.
I’m with you, Gringa. More attention should be paid to Bracelets and Straps. It’s a neglected topic and to me, matching bracelet to watch or strap to watch is of paramount importance. It is, after all, the combination that is seen and inspires reactions, both positive and negative. Most of my watches (I have 13 although two are pocket watches) have straps or bracelets that they did not come with new. This includes the centerpiece of my “collection” my Omega Constellation 41 in blue, which sports a bespoke shiny, very dark blue alligator strap. But this was necessary since, let’s face it, the factory Omega straps on the Constellations are ugly and stand in stark contrast to the incomparable beauty of the watch itself. I’m glad you take bracelets seriously and wish more YT content on the subject were available. Great video!
I have been on the list for 4 watches for the last year and change and I have gotten one of the watches. The blusey. I am still waiting on the blue sky, Pepsi and black dial Daytona. These seem like I will be waiting forever
I’m a huge fan of chronographs but I just don’t think the Daytona is as iconic as Rolex would have you believe. I started with Heuer Carreras because of the sponsorship link with the Ferrari F1 team from when I started watching - I even have an 1158 CHN that is exactly the same as Heuer gave to the Ferrari F1 drivers every year. More recently I have bought a handful of Speedmasters, a long-standing itch thanks to the NASA connection. And those emotional connections are precisely what I don’t have with the Daytona, which is why I don’t even want one.
The thickness or lack thereof is not spoken of enough. I didnt understand the hype until I tried one on. Ive been looking at an auto chronograph but they are all too chunky for my taste. Even the manual wound ones are too bulky on the wrist. Great video, thanks.
Right?! I really think thickness is an under talked about thing! It makes for a really elegant wear with this one and I think it’s the reason it’s become so hard to get and why people love this watch so much! The dimensions and wearing experience are just *chef kiss*
@@BrittPearceWatches In this viewers opinion, you have a topic for a video there. Ive looked around a lot and they are all too thick and wears too proud on the wrist. The daytona has been around for awhile. The movement too. How come no other watchbrand has managed to release a auto chrono in a comparable thickness?
@@easterriot1916 Because automatic chronos are notoriously difficult to engineer. There's a reason even Rolex who was already well established in the 80s had to use the El Primero first to move to an automatic movement, they couldn't build one from scratch. And even today, the great and mighty Grand Seiko recently released their first automatic chrono, which has very similar specs and a very modern architecture like the Daytona - the problem is they couldn't make it smaller, so it's a massive and thick watch. Rolex's 4130 is a masterpiece, ask any watchmaker.
The white gold version was once my grail watch when Ifirst tried it on at the authorized dealer. It’s a fantastic watch in build quality and design - and value - at retail. I don’t really like the culture surrounding the watch and similarly highly desired models from Rolex. Add the AD games you often have to play and I have since been drawn to other brands and sold my Rolex.
To me the Daytona is kinda meh. I still recognize it is a finely crafted watch, chronographs just are not my style. I love seeing the joy it brings to Brittney though. I just prefer the cleaner look much more. I like the brand and do own an OP, if I could pick a Rolex to own my preference order would be OP, Day-Date, Explorer, lady Datejust, Daytona. At least it beats the Yacht-Master.
I buy a watch what I like and I do not care if there is an increase or decrease of price. For me it is an emotional decision. Currently I have 11 luxury watches and not one of them is a Rolex. My latest purchase: Breitling Top Time Ford Mustang with leather strap.
Not as expensive but I believe the hanhart chronos are 1mm slimmer than the Daytona. Also the el premiero is essentially the same thickness as the Daytona
I have reached a Rolex conclusion that has given me piece of mind. I want a Rolex in steel if it’s only available in steel so my Rolex watches of choice are OP , no date sub , airking and explorer II. Then buy the most precious metal in each category. So date just and explorer I are rolesor only and the rest full precious metal. So I want a daytona , but I want a yellow gold oysterlex daytona or platinum daytona. That is the most daytona you can get. Britt is right the speedy is not comparable , it’s the alpha stainless steel chronograph and the stainless steel daytona is a dress watch in leisure clothing.
I have a bit of the same feeling as you. I really enjoyed wearing my Daytona in the 90s and early 2000s. It was something special then, a bit like having a 911. But over the past ten years I find that the status of the Daytona has unfortunately fallen a lot. This media overexposure makes it almost boring…
I dislike it very much, it doesn’t have a date… think about this… if you wear your watch for actual timekeeping and like me have to fill out logbooks… but you gotta keep your phone with you to check the date or pull your phone out to check the date… why have the watch in the first place? It’s just decoration or jewelry, I want my watch to be fully functional jewelry. Just to be clear, enjoy your watch… but I’d never wear one if I got one, it doesn’t do all I want it to do. I don’t even mind the polished center links… my daily is a two tone GMT rootbeer… I repair machinery so it’s got loads of little scratches, watches just have to have a date.
I couldn’t disagree more, I don’t even bother setting the date on my watches that have it. I also use the date a lot at work but unlike keeping track of the time in my head (which I can’t do) I don’t find it particularly hard to keep track of the date from one day to the next.
The insane hype around it cannot help but trickle into people's perceptions of it... it's so hyped up and valuable it's now in a class where even if I had it I wouldn't feel comfortable enough to wear it outside the house. If you can't enjoy your watch out and about what's the damn point of it all then?
really like the Ken Burns effect you use; it starts fast and then slows down-very cool! Do you edit your own videos? The composition and details are always so sharp. I was gifted a limited-edition TAG Heuer, and that’s how I got into watches and discovered your channel. I’ve been building a few references since then and even gifted my wife her first luxury watch. Though she’s not really into watches, she genuinely enjoys your videos. Hope you’re getting some sleep and that motherhood is delightfully chaotic, just as it should be! 😊
I owned the exact same model and agree that the fit and feel on the wrist is absolutely perfect. I ended up selling it as I found it nearly impossible to read the time in most lighting conditions, and I have 20/20 vision! - What's the use of wearing a beautiful looking timepiece that is practically illegible?
Britt - you’re simply overthinking this whole thing. If you “genuinely” love this watch as you say, just love it for everything as it is regardless of the hype and other people’s opinions about it. Literally nobody gives a fuck about your watch outside weird watch people on the internet which is like 0.00001%
What are your thoughts on the Tudor BB Chrono? I like the Daytona, but I personally think I would rather get the Tudor. I feel like when I walk into a Rolex A.D., they look down on me. When I walk into Tudor A.D., they are very welcoming and actually have watches in stock… but I’ve also purchased two Tudors from them, so I have a purchase history already.
Personally I feel the Daytona is a beautiful watch , when I was in Le Mans last year and Rolex had a pop up museum on the track which showed the history of all Daytonas I was fully in love with the watch after that
The Le Mans is so much better than the regular Daytona, and just imagine how much better it could be with a thinner bezel and only half the amount of text on the dial.
Funny how Rolex has had chronographs for almost 80 years, yet they still are able to build hype around their current models. The marketing juggernaut, baby! It IS a handsome chrono, though, and I'd certainly love to have it as another chrono in my collection.
I dont dislike it, but I dont adore it, and would choose other Rolex or other Chrono over it anyway, so its orive and availablity do not bother me one bit.
It is way hyped. Do I like it? A little bit, but even if I got offered this watch at retail I wouldn’t buy it. I like my watches simple. Just tell me the time and maybe the date. GMT is the most I will do and I have one now GMT master 2 and a submariner. For me, the chronograph doesn’t do anything I need it to do, not once in my life have I ever needed to time something out of the blue.
Auntie Britt!! Great breakdown of the Daytona. I heavily lean into dive-style watches, and chronographs are not my jam. I have a Tudor Prince Date Chrono that I want to love but just cannot, especially with aging eyes and thin baton hands. I plan to sell it and fund another watch, maybe the FXD-GMT?? Back to the topic, I love your breakdown and your points are solid. Long Live the Cult(s) and 4:30 date windows.
Britney it's a Rolex Cosmograph baby.😊 Maybe it is the bezel diameter that measures near 40mm. It does wear really well. For me it's a Le mans Daytona LMP1. My ceramic was too shiny so I replaced it with the steel bezel 11520. Then I got an in house workshop to brush the bracelet but not the clasp. So closer to the LM car. The Blue dial on white gold on leather would be great. That would represent a classic Masarati for me. We have one and that only thing that matters. And yes I have a speedy too. Great video and I'm going to wear mine today 😊
Worrying about hype is the same as caring about hype. Love the watches for what they are rather than what others think they are. The Daytona is the best vertical clutch column wheel automatic 100m water resistance chrono for smaller wrists. You said it, there is no thinner alternative
Absolutely love the black dial Daytona - but will never own one. And that’s ok, there are lots of really cool pieces out there that I will either never be offered or be able to afford. That’s just life

As an example of contrast, when I am the airport (where I get to see the most watches in the wild) and I see someone wearing a Parmigiani F or a Hanhart I instantly think they have a more developed knowledge and taste for watches, they actually gave some thought about where to spend their money. All subjective of course.
Gah! All the jerks I know have fake Rolexes. 😝 I need to level up!
I was stuck waiting for a late/delayed flight and the guy next to me had a Cartier Santos on. Instant respect. I can't help it.
Or Hamilton military watches...
You are the company you keep...
I'm genuinely impressed with how close MAMACOO were able to replicate every aspect of this very very goofy looking classic watch.
I am having an uneasy Sunday today. Didn’t sleep well, I’m bothered by something, coffee machine broke so I had to go buy but as soon as I got back home and saw your upload, my day is starting to get better. Thanks for the video 😁
Daytona’s the end goal Rolex for me.
Once that hesitant exis in my brain it’s game over for the watch no matter what it is
The only thing I don't like about this watch is the fact I don't have one 😊
Stunning watch and especially the black dial, I like it so much more than the white dial.
Yes, very expensive but if I could get it at retail I would... Maybe 🤔
Nice video Britt, hope you're having a great Sunday 🎉,🤩
Hope you get one soon! You sure deserve one!
I just got my Rolex Bubble back from 1957, I was on the list for 67 years.
2:16 Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic 6.9mm
The outlined complications just don't do it for me. That's at least what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.
You dont understand, when I'm cooking amd my wife starts complaining about it, I need to start the timer right away because she will be back any time soon with another complain 😂
If I timed my wife between every time she made a complaint my chronograph would be worn out very soon as it would start and stop so many times.
Solid as a rock
Daytona was the least fave or wanted watch by Rolex back in the day… not many people wanted em….
@@BrittPearceWatchescouldn’t agree more, had my panda on today
When in need of a topic or something boost views, come out with a nonsensical, random video on a Rolex. Achieved, good job.
When it comes to fine imitation watches, MAMACOO delivers. I've bought from them several times, and I've never been let down.
25.7% in 3 years is less than the inflation rate of GBP, unfortunately. Especially since the pandemic.
@@swissnikk8412 is it?
@ it is
@@swissnikk8412 think you might need to check that fella.
Because of the screw down pushers it’s one of the only GADA chronographs on the market
You need to measure with the crown guard. That would make it 40mm. Like the speedmaster is a 42mm, but without the crown guard it's close to 40.
Nope. Doesn’t.
Not as expensive but I believe the hanhart chronos are 1mm slimmer than the Daytona. Also the el premiero is essentially the same thickness as the Daytona
I would love a daytona. Can't afford it. However, i bought the Hanhart 417 ES chrono and i love it! Lots of options out there.
Nice choice!
Let's be fair here, even if you're "only" spending a few hundred £ it's still a decent size chunk of cash.
Beautiful watch, not for me. If the AD called and said I could purchase any Rolex today, but NOT for resell, it would not be a Daytona.
It looks amazing on your wrist. As rewarding as any watch ever made. Skip your head and go straight to your heart, ENJOY!
My forbidden love is the Breitling Aerospace ! Yes its chunky, yes ts quartz but I really need one :/.
It looks the baddest (Good way) Tuxedo in the house.Nice 😊
really like the Ken Burns effect you use; it starts fast and then slows down-very cool!
Beautiful watch, but surely you'd use a quartz if you wanted an accurate stop watch ? 🤷♂️ nice to see the Daytona though....
How would you feel if the dial had Tag Heuer on it?
I think the hype wouldn’t be there but tbh the best watches tag makes are chronos so it’d still be a winner
It’s just the chronograph to have, and always will be! imo! 👍
Amazing, thanks for bringing this to my life
Personally I feel the Daytona is a beautiful watch , when I was in Le Mans last year and Rolex had a pop up museum on the track which showed the history of all Daytonas I was fully in love with the watch after that
The Le Mans is so much better than the regular Daytona, and just imagine how much better it could be with a thinner bezel and only half the amount of text on the dial.
Funny how Rolex has had chronographs for almost 80 years, yet they still are able to build hype around their current models. The marketing juggernaut, baby! It IS a handsome chrono, though, and I'd certainly love to have it as another chrono in my collection.
Is not the Santos de Cartier slimmer? With 100m water resistance
God!!! MAMACOO Who would have thought those gorgeous watches go for that low!!!
One of the best iconics and beautifulls chrono/watches ever!!!! Love it in every version
I dont dislike it, but I dont adore it, and would choose other Rolex or other Chrono over it anyway, so its orive and availablity do not bother me one bit.
That's what makes collecting fun, plenty of variety for everyone.
Britney it's a Rolex Cosmograph baby.😊
Maybe it is the bezel diameter that measures near 40mm.
Great video, B. Just curious, which steel Daytona Reference do think looks better, yours or the new Ref.?
Steel bezel is the best one
Worrying about hype is the same as caring about hype. Love the watches for what they are rather than what others think they are. The Daytona is the best vertical clutch column wheel automatic 100m water resistance chrono for smaller wrists. You said it, there is no thinner alternative
Enjoy this watch and don’t worry about the likes and dislikes . This watch is absolute 🔥 If u really want to get rid of it, ill buy it off you 😊
Absolutely love the black dial Daytona - but will never own one.
And that’s ok, there are lots of really cool pieces out there that I will either never be offered or be able to afford.
That’s just life
Why anyone would take this over the chronomaster sport is beyond me.
Buy what you love. I love my Pagani, "Daytona," with the meteorite dial. lol
Go ahead and judge me!
One day I hope to own to give my opinion on it 🤞🏻
The last generation JLC Polaris Chronograph has a thinner case with a display case back with much greater legibility in the dark and you won’t need to unscrew any pusher to operate it, truly amazing IMO😅
I love my 126500LN. It’s such a beautiful watch to wear!
