I love the Hell's Angels story.👍😎👍🥰❤🥰 I never had the privilege of seeing Merle live, but I had the same experience seeing Don Williams in concert a few years back. Literally, he sat up on the stage and sang and sounded just like his records. So still and gentle and got a standing ovation after every song. I've never been so mesmerised by a singer. There's a lot of power in letting the singing and music take center stage. 🥰😎🥰
Merle came to Halifax Nova Scotia I was lucky enough to load up my grandmother father in law and a few others and see him and the band. Rip hag and rip nan good memories
I saw Merle in San Francisco in 1999 at a small theater at UCSF. Ramblin"Jack Elliott opened the show. Between the venue, older crowd and the legendary artists it was like being in a time warp. Ramblin " Jack joined Merle for a few songs and Merle did a lot of his own fiddle work( I didn't know he could play) it was a transcendent show. Almost 25 years ago it was a Bakersfield , Barbary Coast time warp back then. I almost didn't go, glad I did. P.S. Rambin ' Jack still kicking Peace my fellow travelers
Wow, Otis, you have some amazing friends. Peter Case has written some of my favorite songs ever (eg. Travelin' LIght, Poor Old Tom, Small Town Spree). Great guitarist, too. The story about Merle and the Hell's Angels is priceless.
Peter Case is beyond cool. Six Pack came out when I was a senior in high school. A "woman" (she was 24) I was seeing had this on cassette in her car. I haven't thought about that in years!! 💔
I've had that "Tulare Dust" album ever since it came out. I've used it to turn a bunch of youngsters on to Merle. It's a masterpiece. Thanks for doing this, Otis!❤️
Peter Case is one of the greats. He has a songwriting voice that stands alone, and he’s a hell of a guitarist. Entella Hotel still sends me every time I hear it.
We covered "A Million Miles Away" and "How Long Will It Take" in my high school band (1983!) and I loved that Plimsouls album to death. Talk about a convergence of my past and present in one video!
Thank you both Otis and Peter Case Tom Russell and Iris Dement are two of my favorites. Iris Dement Played piano as part of The Strangers with Merle Haggard and The Strangers. 👍
I am always amazed at how many guests that your channel makes me want to dive into their music..Peter Case is great. One time at Folk Alliance when i had longer hair and a beard every one thought I was him. LOL...keep up the good work Otis
I could listen to guys like Case and Tim O’Brien tell stories forever. It would be great if you could interview Charlie McCoy or Wayne Moss. Those guys played on some of the most iconic recordings ever made. It is hard to find a classic recording of the 60’s & 70’s that Charlie McCoy didn’t play on. His accompanying spanish style guitar on Dylan’s Desolation Row is the pinnacle of what an accompanying guitar should be. The fact that it was pretty much played off the cuff makes it even more amazing. It is Charlie’s involvement in recording that song in New York that was greatly responsible for Dylan coming to Nashville to record Blonde on Blonde. Those Blonde on Blonde sessions forever changed the trajectory of who and what got recorded in Nashville.
Otis, you might want to get ahold of Merle’s old manager, Tex Whitson. They had a falling out but Tex doesn’t have a bad word to say. They go way, way back. Tex gives a great interview, knows a lot of that era.
P case Nice one Otis! Spun many a tune His voice just cuts through in a certain kind of way On the Way Downtown Where the moonlight spills on the ground … I’ll say
Otis, if you ever get the chance, you need to interview both Dave Alvin and Tom Russell. I've known those guys for years, and both have amazing stories.
Seems like a lot of outlaw country singers had friendly relationships with the Hells Angels.Kind of funny cause I wouldn’t think those guys were into country music.
I loved the Plimsouls, especially their first album. Strange that Peter went from fronting a power pop band to writing songs with John Prine. Not bad strange, just unexpected.

Getting back all that gear was really something. I`m sure Merle more than thanked them for that good deed lol

Love me some Peter Case. He’s SO underrated
I read Hunter Thompson’s book on the Hell’s Angels. No better friends, no worse enemy.
I bet instruments came back that weren’t even stolen. 😂
Yeah. I've known some bikers who worked miracles. Lol

I always listen to Merle when riding my Harley. Merle usually had HAs (Oakland) around him when he was playing in the Bay Area. A true legend.

I've said it for years, but Poor Old Tom is about as good as a song gets!

That Tulare Dust CD got me thru a long hospital stay back in '95. A great tribute to Haggard.
Agreed
Great Hell's Angels story. LOVE Peter Case's I Dream About You. Listened to it about 1,000 times.

Thanks Otis , Merle was the GOAT 🐐
Beautiful people,,, beautiful songs,,, everyone together telling tales and singing along,,, this is why I enjoy your channel,,, the content.

Outstanding, thanks again Otis...
One of the greatest stories I have ever heard. No need to call the police. Call someone who can get the job done.
My dad was the president of two different clubs during the biker wars. Crazy times.
This guy's gotta be loaded with fabulous stories. You know what to do Otis!
Thank you both Otis and Peter Case
Tom Russell and Iris Dement are two of my favorites. Iris Dement Played piano as part of The Strangers with Merle Haggard and The Strangers. 👍
Thank you Artemis, for the support and for being here from the beginning!
I met Merle a couple of times. Always very nice and generous with his time.

Great stories !!! Thanks brother Otis for all these great interviews !!!
I haven't seen Peter in awhile. He used to open tons of shows I went to in the 1990s and 2000s.
I can’t tell you how much I dig Peter Case. I missed him in Philly. I don’t know how I did that. Damn. He a troubadour
Otis, you might want to get ahold of Merle’s old manager, Tex Whitson. They had a falling out but Tex doesn’t have a bad word to say. They go way, way back. Tex gives a great interview, knows a lot of that era.
Agent Otis of the FBI!! That’s great…

@@Sam-fc8ik So I have heard.
Isn't there a story about Merle and Diamond Rio? Something related to them covering working man blues at an awards show.
I loved the Plimsouls, especially their first album. Strange that Peter went from fronting a power pop band to writing songs with John Prine. Not bad strange, just unexpected.
