I started listening to Merle back in the early 60s and for me HE is the All time Best. I'm sure he is in Heaven teaching Angels how to sing. There will never be another like him. I'm 65 now and I miss him.
He spoke poetry! I interviewed Merle when he did the Bob Wills tour and he was talking about being in solitary confinement for cooking up some moonshine. "So there I was, sitting in that little cell, with a guitar in one hand and a Bible in the other, and it was at that point I decided I was going to take my talents elsewhere." 😊 Merle was one of a kind.
Mo Pitney met Merle at The Marty Stuart show, North Star Studio on" Two Four Two Thousand Thirteen Four Forty Five, time and date". Mo & Don Sampson wrote a song about this titled "I met Merle Haggard today". Love hearing great stories. Thanks for your channel Otis.
Barry has an enthusiastic way of telling stories! He has good reason since he is able to dive deep into Merle Haggard’s musical philosophy and interests. I had no idea how deep the Hag’s interests ran. Thanks Barry and Otis!
Otis, you have a gem of a channel. I'm so happy to have recently discovered it. I grew up listening to my Fathers records. Mostly artists like Chet Adkins, Herb Alpert and the like. My favorite record of his was by Marty Robbins - 'Singing the Blues'. I grew up listening to stuff like Led Zeppelin and harder Rock n Roll as I got older, but always had an ear for country music as well. In 1982, I moved to Ft. Worth, Texas. That was in my drinking days, and my newly acquired Redneck Friends and I spent hours in little hole in the wall dive bars, drinking and listening to Hank, Merle George Jones, just every 'True' Country artist on the juke box. Got to see Hank Jr. at 'Billy-Bobs to the likes of Earl Thomas Connley and so many more. My love for traditional country music skyrocketed in the 10 years I lived there. Thank you so much for the insightful interviews. Now, not only do I know the songs, but some of the background and tales of these great men and woman of Country Music.
I can understand that statement Merle , same size as my cell but it moves. It never goes away once you’ve experienced it. We live it during the day and we live it in our dreams. Love ya Merle always will

I am from Muskogee OK and Merle was going to do a show in Muskogee at HatBox Field. Before I could get around to getting online to buy tickets, it had been announced that Merle had passed. I was so bummed out. I had only seen Merle one time in my life, which was in Tulsa, OK at the Hard rock about 6-9 months earlier. If a guy from Muskogee OK could have seen the guy that wrote "Okie form Muskogee" in Muskogee . . . THAT would have sealed the deal for me.
Blast. I was in Meridian on a Sunday to see my son off (he was stationed there) and didn’t get a chance to go to the Jimmie Rodgers museum. We did go to the park and see the locomotive there, though.
Yeah Barry's right on, nothing like Merle ...what a cat; a great scholar of music.and such songs "Sing Me Back Home ,Silver Wings ,Mama Tried..."wow So glad I was able to see him one time, even with the Chevy ads(sponsored the tour). You can see why him andWillie were buddies, folks with understanding of the great sweep of American music.
awe imagine possibilites of merle and some of these jazz cats in thinking of the recent ish willie does sinatra album and recent willie collab with wynton......good stuff

How Otis does not have at least a couple hour show on Outlaw Country or Willie's Roadhouse makes no damn sense.
Merle is the GOAT 🐐
Solid gold
I'd have to say Hank Sr. may have a claim on that CW throne as well!
This is why I patreon.
Thank you, Brent for helping make this possible! : )
