Absolutely amazing! I wonder why Google does not offer this as an option! And I still think that designing Bookmarks as a plain Explorer folder, as it used to be in the old days, would be of immense benefit to users!

Hi Jason,
Our video here will explain how to sync your bookmarks across devices:

We recommend performing the sync on the device with the correct bookmarks.

This absolutely works!!! Thank you so much for providing. Quick, and steps all matched. Google is doing some random thing with my bar and I got them all back with this, but sadly, within a minute they went back to whatever google did. I´m not sure I will be able to get them back now.

only the first 2 of all those menus exist... what version of windows 10 are you running that you have those options? I do not have those on my latest version of windows 10 (last updated July 14, 2021)...

Which two menu options can you see?
Thank you! 🙂

Hi, I know it isn't necessarily for bookmarks but I can't seem to find anything on this as the posts related to this issue are from 2014. My issue is that I logged into a new email, which created a new profile on Chrome, which I was trying to delete. I hit delete on my main profile 'Profile 1' and I really need it back. I have lots of passwords and information I need to get back so I kind of need help with this
I am able to find the User Data folder, but after that I've been told to go to Previous Versions (posts from 2014, Chrome has changed a lot since then) but I cannot find anything close to it. I see a folder named Profile 1 but once going in there I have no clue what to do
Do you know any solutions as to how I should go about this?
Hi Duke,
We are sorry to hear this. Unfortunately we are not experts in Google Chrome Profile recovery, but this video may be able to help you:
ua-cam.com/video/AKSdGVsGuKs/v-deo.html
If you follow either of these file paths you may be able to find the folder called User Data
C:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Chromium\UserData\Default
C:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\UserData\Default
Once you find the folder called User Data and User Data Old, then change the name of user data old back to user data
Then reopen chrome, go to settings and your history and bookmarks etc. should be recovered.
Let us know if you have any luck with this!
@@TechWyseUK Hi, thank you for your quick response. I've tried to find UserDataOld but the only thing that pops up is User Data for some reason. I have 0 clue why, are you able to suggest anything upon that?
Also, I did some digging and went into my Profile 1 folder, the profile I'm trying to recover, and after skimming through the list of files and folders I saw LOG.old and LOG, however I reopened Chrome so now the old log file is 06:29 when I did the deleting at 04:42, stupid on my part yes. However I see files such as Login Data, Login Data For Account (and the journal) as well as LOCK that are still set to 04:42 and 04:43. Is there any way I can try something there?
Also I have tried finding Default but there is no folder of that in User Data, I literally have no clue why mine seems to be different to others.
Thank you for your help by the way, I understand you're not an expert in that area but I still greatly appreciate your help!
This didn't work. Please help. I had over 900 tabs opened but had to reinstall windows because I needed a new motherboard. Of course I bookmarked all my tabs then proceeded to do backups of the bookmarks files. i've tried this method over and over, restarted my PC multiple times but it just doesn't work. Except I know my bookmarks ARE STILL IN THERE because when I check the files with the notepad app, I can see the text, I can see the bookmarks, their name, their link, etc. I've even tried converting them to HTML then choosing the "importing from HTML" option in Chrome but it doesn't work either. I've also tried importing them in other browsers but it also doesn't work. Please help me, if I don't restore these bookmarks then literal thousands of hours of my life will have gone to the trash bin. Please help

We are not affiliated with any third-party tools and its use would be at your own risk: rongjiecomputer.github.io/chrome/bookmark-recovery/#windows. Uploading either the bookmarks or bookmarks.bak to this tool will then give an HTML copy of the bookmarks discovered that can further be imported to google. Great video. any hints regard how can I do that on Mac?
Hi Benjix,
Here is a method we have found online using the Mac Time Machine.
Unfortunately we are not Mac specialists so we cannot assist you directly:
If you have your Time Machine opened all the time for saving your files on your Mac, then it will back up all files once existed on your Mac. In this case, you can restore the deleted Google Chrome bookmarks with Time Machine. Here is the simple step for how to recover bookmarks in Chrome on Mac.
Step 1. Click to Open up >Finder> and go to Macintosh HD -> Users -> user name (your user name) -> Library -> Application Support -> Google -> Chrome -> Default; in the Default folder, you will see two files (Bookmarks & Bookmarks.bak).
Step 2. Next, copy, rename and save Bookmarks file to another location. Then, go back and delete the original file. Why do you need to do it? It means you will use the backup to create a new file.
Step 3. Go down to Bookmarks.bak and rename it to simply "Bookmarks", deleting the .bak extension. It will make your backup copy of the bookmarks as the original bookmarks folder.
After then you can launch Chrome again to check out the bookmarks._
Hope this helps!
I wonder how many people clicked on this video because they deleted all of their porn bookmarks and now want them back👇🏼

Hi. I recently changed my version of Windows and lost my bookmarks. I can find the bookmarks folders and they were updated a few days ago, but I can't rename the one to bookmarks.old. It won't allow the name change even though I can click on rename. It just converts back to the original name. Any ideas why that would be?
Are these your browser bookmarks? just to confirm, you've got the old bookmarks file and need to add it to your browser after windows version change?
I tried this but when I clicked the Bookmark folder (without .bak) it asked what I wanted to open it in. I clicked Chrome but I got a new window with a list of text. It didn't show the bookmarks bar like yours did. What do I do?
Hi Nancy,
You need to right click the bookmark file and rename it. Alternatively, opening the file with notepad will allow you to see all the links which were your bookmarks, so you can remake them.
Hi bro , thanks for this video. I need dos key command to show the bookmark bar. I need to create a batch file to put the startup.chrome favourites bar sometime it's automatically hidden

Chrome will NOT open and sync was not activated SO can you download/install Firefox ... import bookmarks and then ... reinstall Chrome and import the bookmarks from Firefox back to Chrome?
Hi Archangel Raphael,
It is definitely worth a try, just make sure you make a backup of your bookmarks once they are in Firefox, so at least you then have a copy.
Hope this works for you.
I have a Chromebook. This is not good for me.

ua-cam.com/video/kvaXziWF2PA/v-deo.html
As we explained in the previous comment, one your bookmarks.bak file is overwritten, it cannot be recovered.
Hope this helps!
Hi NYCcitizen,
If you have synced your google account, and then you deleted a bookmark, it will have deleted on both devices.
The nature of syncing will mean that any changes made on one device is reflected on another.
Hope this helps!
Make your own backup in a separate file and put it somewhere safe from crashes. Online drive (any free one) or even a USB stick. Just make positive sure you label it and keep it safe. You can even printout the bookmarks themselves (ugh).
I recently built a new PC, pulled the drive from old PC and have it as a secondary drive in new PC. Found the bookmarks.bak file. Copied to new user data location on new PC. Rename bookmarks.bak to bookmarks. Chrome still doesn't recognize the file. I have years worth of bookmarks that I cannot get to, so frustrating. Any ideas? Wondering if there's a way to convert to HTML so I can import it.
Hi Technosaurus Rex,
It looks like because you are trying to restore to a new user profile this isn't possible. It would only work if you are restoring to the same user profile. As for looking inside the file you may be able to open it as a .txt file. Let us know how this goes!
The simple answer is to add .html at the end. check for mistakes
Never rename them unless it's an offline backup. The file extension needs to be there in order to work. Put the extension back. (.html) you probably removed the whole thing. It should look like bookmarks_1_26_23.html for an entire file for all your bookmarks. The numbers are the date the backup was made. Manual regular backups are your best protection. Some people make backups of their entire system offline. That is a lot of work for most people.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your issue. I appreciate your support. Sorry, they maybe gone forever.
Could you explain the warning more clearly please?
Hi Abhinav,
When you lose your bookmarks, if you do not follow this recovery method straight away, then your only backup will be overwritten.
This is because when the browser is restarted, your PC will take a new backup of the browser.
This will replace your previous bookmarks.bak file that contains all your bookmarks with the current settings, which in your case, would be no bookmarks.
*Once the file has been overwritten, the previous bookmarks.bak file cannot be recovered.*
We always recommend syncing your bookmarks to a google account, to do this, follow our guide here:
ua-cam.com/video/kvaXziWF2PA/v-deo.html

If I deleted the bookmark a while ago will it come back?
Hi Sivi,
If you have restarted your browser multiple times since you lost the bookmarks, then you will be unable to retrieve the bookmarks.
However, if you have only reopened the browser once, then they should be able to be recovered.
We recommend following this process just in case they can be recovered.
Good luck with this and let us know of any more questions!
@@TechWyseUK Thank you! :)
Can i recover my Google crome profile ????? Pls help me out
Why cant anyone explain how to get the apps/icons back on the main front page under Google's search bar?! Lawd, every video explains the apps icons on the top bar, not the front page shortcuts. It's annoying having to click open multiple tabs v open Google and boom😖😩😩😩
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. We will add this to our list of new videos. Have a great day.
That would be awesome @TechWyseUK I don't know what happened to my shortcut icons on Googles front page that you add the url and it pops up on the front. Thanks for your help!

Hi Danica,
Is this a Google Account you are looking to restore?
Or is this a Guest Profile?
@@TechWyseUK Hello, I have the same problem as Soleil. I accidentally deleted my Google Account profile on Google Chrome (not the actual Google account, I can still sign in to it). Is there any way to restore the profile? I've tried the app data solutions recovery but to no avail. Please please let me know if there is a way to recover the profile!
Hi Alicia,
We have seen a few viewers ask about this now, we are looking into the fix.
For now, this video may be able to help you:
ua-cam.com/video/AKSdGVsGuKs/v-deo.html
If you follow either of these file paths you may be able to find the folder called User Data
C:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Chromium\UserData\Default
C:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\UserData\Default
Once you find the folder called User Data and User Data Old, then change the name of user data old back to user data
Then reopen chrome, go to settings and your history and bookmarks etc. should be recovered.
Let us know if you have any luck with this!
@@TechWyseUK Hello, thank for your quick response! Unfortunately, even after following these steps and the video you provided it appears my bookmarks are gone for good. I am slowly starting to accept that. Anyways, thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. I appreciate it.

Hi Tim,
Sorry to hear that, in future, we recommend syncing your bookmarks to a google account. This way, they will be stored in the cloud.
Here is our guide:

What do I do if I can't find the bookmark.bak file?
Thank you so much!! I accidentaly deleted a folder with 250 bookmarks on my tablet and because I have sync on, it deleted on my google account on my computer in matter of seconds and have spent 4 hours on how to get them back. The first thing I did after getting them back is backing them up on pc and usb. Bless you my friend, you have a new subscriber!!

Hi S almarzooqi,
What version of windows are you currently running?
Is it the most up to date version?
@@TechWyseUK windows 11
This guide is for windows 10, there is probably another way to do this in windows 11, which we need to look into and make a video about.
Sorry about this.
I LOVE YOU
Thank you.
for some reason i cant find default folder
Hi Yianni,
We have replied to your other comment with some extra steps!
how to retrieve bookmarks on a Mac
Hi JP
I dont have the default folder.
Hi Farah,
This seems to be a common issue amongst a few of our viewers.
We cant seem to find anything online regarding this but we are looking into it.
Sorry about that.
@@TechWyseUK have you figured this out? I am windows 10 and no default folder. Perhaps because I stupidly allowed Chrome to create a 'profile' and that is when it replaced all my current bookmarks...
i love you
Glad we could help!
doesnt work
no bookmarks.bak file
Hi, What version of windows are you running?
your volume is too low!
Apologies Michael,
We have increased our volume for our more recent videos, but hopefully the subtitles will help with this one!
